Summary: Difficult reading for younger children
Review: My great-grandfather was a Sioux Indian, and he would be spinning in his grave at some of the terrible errors in this book. I would imagine that most American school children would know that "woohitika" means bravery, and not fortitude (which is, of course "wowacintanka"). I think you will find that The Great Spirit Skan made us with bones from Stone, and not Brick, like Gardiner would have us believe, and it was Spider that sent Wolf to the Underworld, and not "Yucky Wucky Stinky Winky Cockroach". The author has tried hard to create a touching novel about a young boy going through the agonies and indecision of pubescence, and his realtionship with a dog and a virile man much older than himself, but it's the details that let the story down. Finally, it was buffalo that roamed the Great Plains, and not "lanky legged, boggle eyed giraffes". Shocking.

Summary: A great read
Review: ...The best book I ever read in school is called The Stone Fox. It's about a boy name Wiley. He's about 12 years old. He has a grandpa name Grandpa. He's really fun and happy all the time. Until one day Wiley went to check on him , and he was lying in bed looking at the ceiling. Wiley got the doctor, and she said there was nothing she could do. She said he was just sad. He was sad because he needed $300 to pay off the farm. Wiley was walking down the street, and he saw a sign that said "A Sled Race", the winner gets $300 in cash. Wiley decided he could train. When he was running back home , he ran into a tall Indian name Stone Fox. He always won the sled race. When Wiley got back home, he started to practice. One night he was walking around when he heard barking, so he went in a pretty good size barn, and saw sled dogs. He started to pet them. Then he heard someone coming. He turned around, and saw Stone Fox who slapped him across his face. Wiley ran home. The next day was the sled race. Wiley and his dog searchlight rode off to the race. Wiley got ready "POW"! The gun shot. I'm not going to tell the rest, so you will have to read to find out.

Summary: Stone Fox
Review: I enjoyed reading Stone Fox because I thought that Little Willy went through a lot to save his grandfather's farm. This book was very sad. I liked the part when I read about Stone Fox's bad temper. Anyone who wants to read Stone Fox should try it because it has a surprise ending that is also sad. You will be crying when the story is over!

Summary: ~*~Great but Sad Story~*~
Review: The book, Stone Fox, is about a boy named little Willy whose grandfather gets really ill do to the fact that he never paid his taxes. Now it is up to Little Willy to raise $500.The hard part it to find the way. When Willy finds the way he meets a man named Stone Fox, who doesn't talk to white people. The author John Gardiner has a way to right his words. I think that this book was very sad because Willy's dog Searchlight's heart burst and he died that was by far the saddest part of the story! I would recommend this book for 3rd grade and up because of the challenging vocabulary and the violence.

Summary: Best Book I Read This Year
Review: I've been teaching in Singapore for four years and this is by far the best book I've read with my students. The author writes cleary and doesn not bore you with unnecessary details. Throughout the whole book, our class was wondering how it would end. The ending is shocking and one of the few times I've put a book down and thought, "Wow...that was great!"

Summary: Book Review On Stone Fox
Review: Stone Fox is a really good book. I would recommend it to anyone. Stone Fox is about a ten year old boy named Little Willy and his grandfather. They live on a potatoe farm with their dog named Searchlight. One day Little Willy's grandfather gets sick. Willy finds out that his grandfather is sick because they owe $500 in taxes. One day Little Willy goes to the store and sees a poster that says that they are going to have a dog sled race, and the prize money is just what they need, $500.

The theme or message in this book is that you should always believe in yourself, no matter what people say. And just because you are a child, doesn't mean you can't do great things. It teaches you not to listen to putdowns, and to always believe in yourself. No matter what.

My opinion of this book is that I really liked it. It is a very good book. I liked it a lot because it teaches kids to have confidence. Even if others don't believe in you. I also liked it because it was very fun and exciting. Once you pick it up, you can't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Excellent for classroom use!
Review: I bought a class set of Stone Fox. My second graders LOVED the story. It taught them lessons about fairness, determination, and love. They were captured by the writing style. This is a beautiful story of a young boy's love for his family and his dog. It can be used along with the video as an EXCELLENT compare/contrast lesson. The vocabulary can be adjusted for any grade level. It's wonderful for teachers but it's also just a really touching story. I recommend it to any animal lover!

Summary: A book you'll love even if your mom gets it for you
Review: This was one of the first chapter books my 7-year-old son ever read. Even though he was just learning, the exciting story about the boy racing his favorite sled dog to get prize money to save the family farm was gripping. Not too hard or too long either.

Even though I am a grown-up, the ending surprised me and moved me. It was exciting, and it made me think. Kids, read it before they assign it in school! Parents, if you have a reluctant reader, give this one a try. You will even enjoy it yourselves.
