Rating: 5 stars
Summary: BEGUILING BEDTIME STORIES FOR CHILDREN & THEIR PARENTS
Review: This is a marvelous audio collection of stories: the idiosyncratic, wry, touching tales of the country vet, lyrically read by one of his countrymen. My eight-year-old daughter has chosen this tape every night for a couple of months, to listen to after the lights are out; and half the time I linger with her, to catch the end of one story, the start of another. We both, side-by-side in the dark, burst out laughing at the stories, though at different moments. It's impossible to tell who has the more captivating personalities: the sometimes-wacky farm folk of the tales -- the muttering crank, the penny-pitching old dowager -- or their animals. If there were a ten-star rating, Lily & I would give this cassette all ten; in fact, we logged onto Amazon tonight purely to look for another Herriott cassette.
