Summary: Must avoid urge to describe as v.g....oops
Review: What can I say? This isn't exactly War and Peace but it is sweet, funny, and well-observed. Every woman should be able to relate to Bridget somehow. And if you are 32 and single like myself you'll wonder if Helen Fielding wrote the book about you. While some parts of the story will ring truer than others (does anyone really have a mother like this?) it's well worth the time to read. And at under 300 pages that's v. agreeable. (ARGH! I couldn't help myself)

Review: Although I enjoyed Bridget Jones when I first read it- I found another book on ... that is similar to BJD- but so much better! If you liked BJD- you'll love "Serve Cool" by Lauren McCrossen. Both books are about real people with real problems- but "Serve Cool" had an extra bit more.

Summary: Gotta Watch The Film
Review: I have been waiting for the film to come out at the pictures as the book is fantastic. The book will probably be better than the film with is more than often the case. I hope that Hugh Grant will be able to do his part justice as i dont rate him very highly. The book gripped from the beginning and i began to see through Miss Jones eyes and see the world through her eyes. This book will make you laugh and this book will make you cry. If you have seen the film then read the book and you will be even more impressed

Summary: A v. v. good read
Review: This book is positively hysterical. No, it's not the most educational piece of work you'll ever come across, but for good, plain fun, Bridget Jones's Diary is the way to go. The best part about the book, in my opinion, was not the hilarious interaction between Bridget and Company (though that's definitely what adds to the book's appeal), but the way the book is simply REAL. It sounds as though it could be you or I could be writing in our own diaries, about our nagging mothers, our smug friends, or our lousy boyfriends; yet Fielding successfully mangages to make the book funny, not whiny or irritating. Don't wait for the movie before reading this-- I don't think it could possibly be as witty or entertaining.

Summary: I hated this book!!!
Review: I can't understand what all the hype is over this book. This is probably one of the worse books I've ever had the misfortune to attempt reading. It was so bad, I couldn't even finish it. This character is boring, whiny and sickening that I wanted to smother myself with the nearest pillow to stop from reading this book. The only reason why I gave this book one star is because you can't give less than that. Take my advice - steer clear of this book.

Summary: Finally made it to the top of the reading pile
Review: I gave in and decided to read Bridget Jones's Diary - finally. O.K. I admit I'm not in my thirties, and wasn't single in my thirties, don't live in London, so I simply can't relate to Bridget and her singleton friends. A number of my friends had recommended it, and thought that the book was hilarious. I found parts of the book rather humerous, and I loved her eccentric mother and her mid-life crisis. Although not the best book that I have read, it was moderately entertaining, a fast read, and worth the effort.

Review: I just finished this hilarious book and I must say that (as a man) I loved every minute of it. I can easily see how so many ladies out there relate to Bridget and all her misadventures. However, I can truly say that many men (myself included) can also relate to her low self esteem, attempts at fighting vices, and her traumatic search for a lasting romantic relationship. Bridget is one of the most truly human characters that I've met in any of my literary adventures. I recommend this book to anyone that has a pulse. You won't regret reading it. It is a must read! A+

Summary: so like MY life!
Review: Have just re-read this in run-up to movie. Verdict - BJD is v.v.g. book producing lots of laughs of recognition - she behaves JUST like I do! I also smoke/drink/weigh too much and am constantly seeking self-improvement and making New Year resolutions and generally making an 'arse' of myself. I think Renee Zelwegger will be great as Bridget. People who don't get the joke must have ZERO sense of humour. Let's laugh at ourselves a little girls! Also recommended - *My life on a Plate* by India Knight, and another hilarious book about being single in London - *The Trials of Tiffany Trott* - both of these books are a riot. But in the mean time more please from Ms Fielding!

Review: What a disappointment. I just read Animal Husbandry, which is a very similar story, a better read, so maybe I was burnt out on this topic. It had the same formula of a best girlfriend and gay best friend who just seem to be at her beck and call 24/7, never understanding what was the draw to her. She is not a likeable or insightful character and the whole business with her mother was just too unbelievable. I had some mixed feelings about the weight entries - why is she considering herself fat at 130? I know that women have distorted views about themselves but I just could not relate (maybe there was a mix-up in the metric conversion!?)

Review: I can't relate with Bridget's life but it is so much fun to read her 'diary'. It is hillarious and touchy at the same time. At the end of the book, I've made new friends with Bridget and her Singletons. Look forward to read the sequel.
