Summary: Big Anne McCaffrey Fan
Review: I have loved all of Anne's books, all the different series. I hope she keeps writing. I am not sure how much of this book is Anne's and how much is Todd's but I enjoyed it and would recommed it to any McCaffrey fan.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A touching story by mother and son!
Review: I have read every Anne McCaffrey book that I can find even "Restoree". They all have good plots, action, a little romance/romantic adventure. Some like the Rowan/Damia/Lyons series have some mystery and military intrigue as well. This book is wondefully touching and expands and explains so much that I have always wondered about watch-whers. I love all of Anne's Dragon series and look forward to Todd continuing that series!! He is a wonderful writer as well.

Read it for what it is -- a wonderful fantasy book.

Summary: fill in about watch-whers
Review: I have read this & own it in paper back excellant book fills in a lot about the watch-whers since the first book Dragonsdawn. Todd McCaffrey is an excellant writer can't wait for his next book in the Pern series

Summary: COULD BE BETTER!
Review: I love Pern so the newest novel was an instant purchase. The problem with this novel is that nothing happening until the last chapters when a egg is obtained, hatched, grown, saves people from the mine and gives our adolecent hero a chance to be a Harper. Whew! I wish they hadn't postponed all the action until the end. Perhaps the authors felt the need to develop the watch-wher story before proceeding. I hope the next story clips along a bit more quickly.

Summary: Dragon's Kin
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was fascinating to read more about Watchweres and their origins. The characters I found were interesting and vivid if slightly under-drawn. I recommend this book to fans.

Summary: Don't even bother.
Review: I was disappointed to discover that I can't give zero stars for a review - this book doesn't even deserve one.

I was fond of the Pern books when I was younger, so I read this one because of that remembered fondness, and because I was curious to see how Todd McCaffrey would handle the world of Pern. I'm afraid to say that the answer is, not very well. To be blunt, I found the writing amateurish, the characters shallow and uninteresting, the songs sounding like the efforts of an uninspired junior-high student, and the "science" beyond horrible.

If you like Pern, don't read this book. It'll only disappoint you.

Summary: A waste of time
Review: I was EXTREMELY dissapointed by this book. I expected something similar in style to the previous books. Instead I found a book with passages that were blatant copies from previous books, and an attempt to imulate their style. It failed miserably. I realize Todd is trying to make it in tandem with his mother, but their styles are too different, and it turns out to be a miserable mix. The book doesn't keep in sequence of events. There are way too many inconsistencies and disagreements. For anyone who's been following the Dragonriders series, BEWARE!!! You'll probably be as irritated and enraged as I was. I was never more dissapointed with any other book as I was with this one.

Summary: A real disappointment
Review: I was really disappointed in this book. Unlike the other books in the Pern series, this book was written through perspective of children and seemingly for children. It was lacking any of the complexity of a book written for adults. On top of that, the first half of the book dragged with little to no action. The pace picked up in the second half but the plot of the second half seemed poorly developed. Throughout the book, the reader is continuously "told" what is going on and rarely allowed to "discover" anything new about the story or characters. This is especially true in the second half and gives the book a very shallow feeling.

Summary: Wonderful Inheritance
Review: I'm a long time McCaffrey fan, and I was pleased with this collaboration. Over the years I've watched Anne give away her ideas to other authors to develop, except of course for Pern. What a legacy to pass on to her son! This gives me great hope that the Pern stories will continue long after Anne stops writing them. I was impressed and wonder exactly how the collab was done. Did Todd write what Anne plotted or what?

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good first draft
Review: I'm a Pern series fan. I love all the previous books. Anne McCaffrey can spin a delightful tale of dragons and the people who need them.
The conceptual plot has alot of promise. I love the idea of exploring the watchwhers in more depth. There are many ways to tie in their abilities to Wind Blossom's concept of a "perfect" dragon. She was very different from her grandmother, Kit Ping, and probably tried to add more abilities. The premise is there for developing watch-whers into an interesting story. The plot of this book is poorly developed and the characters are one dimensional. I don't reccomend this book except to get your Pern fix.
I'd love to read the next draft of this book.
