Summary: An Intuitive Shares Her Psychic Toolkit
Review: Laura Day's book, PRACTICAL INTUITION, describes ways that we can develop our psychic senses and connect more clearly with the truths that are out there -- such as what job is best, what partner is best, what to do to improve one's health, and how to make better investment and business decisions. Most of us suffer from occasional lapses in what we call "reason" or "judgement", in which we ignore deeper knowledge of who we are and what we need. This knowledge is fully accessible to each and every one of us, according to Day, who provides fun and informative exercises designed to build up our intuitive talent.

PRACTICAL INTUITION sets itself apart from other intuition books by starting with the working assumption that we all have access to universal truths and can see the future, feel how others are feeling, and generally live our lives in mystical fashion. I love this approach to the subject of intuition, because I share these beliefs and enjoy experiencing the magic in life.

I love the section Day includes in this book which shows you how you can quickly help almost anyone become your own psychic guru (even when they don't think they are psychic at all) -- for those times when you need an unbiased opinion, and don't want to hire a psychic. This is a very creative technique that you're sure to have lots of fun with as you get the answers you need to those burning questions.

Would you like to find out how intuitive you can really be? Are you open to the possibility that you already know exactly who you are and what is best for you? PRACTICAL INTUITION picks up where other intuition books leave off, and can raise your intuitive ability to heights you never knew you could reach.

Summary: Very Impractical
Review: Laura teaches people to hallucinate and pretend that the hallucinations have meaning. It really hasn't done much for Demi's career. Pretending your hallucinations have meaning could lead to delusions, psychosis, or worse. Laura gives no advice about what to do when the hallucinations become overwhelming or interrupt your daily routine. Better read the "Stormy Search for the Self", "Spiritual Emergency" by Stan and Christina Grof or "A Path With Heart" by Jack Kornfield for information about the potential negative side effects to Laura's teachings.

Summary: Eye-Opener
Review: My third eye, that is. I "accidentally" purchased this book and did the exercises exactly as she instructed. I was struck by the accuracy of my visions. Laura's book is a great teaching tool to expand your intuition. BUT it takes discipline. Practical Intuition is dynamite when you're willing to devote the time. It took me 5 weeks. I use it to evaluate the men I date -- with telling accuracy.

Summary: To much new age mumbo jumbo
Review: The book promises a practical guide to developing your intuition -- a worthy goal. Unfortunately, in this case, "intuition" is a code word for "psychic powers". Parts of the book concentrate on developing your ability to interpret the internal Rorschach test that is your thoughts, and to the extent that the book concentrates on that, it is worthwhile. Unfortunately, it goes too far and claims you can develop the power to predict horse races and the stock market. If you get it right, it tells you, it is the psychic power of your amazing intuition. If you get it wrong, it is because something interfered and the power wasn't working. I am reminded of the friend who says he has psychic powers to predict whether a card will be red or black. If he gets it right, he says "see, I'm psychic". If he gets it wrong, he says "Oh, it temporarily slipped away". Of course, he's right about 50% of the time. This book begs you to read significance into similar occurrences in your life. A book that helps you to know when to trust your gut feelings and how to get in touch with them would fill a gap in the self-help shelf. Unfortunately, this book doesn't know when to leave well enough alone and ventures into the new-age kook category.

Summary: helpful
Review: the book was helpful by filling a void in my search for the future. i need help in making decisions. the book gave me the help. it is also, a fun game to play with friends and family. who will win the super bowl? my family plans on playing a game with this book to tell us the winner. you should do the same. life goes on with or without this book the same as it goes on with or without god, but it is fun to have both to play with. laura day should be on a talk show. in the book, i see it happening. have fun with the book at your next need for a YES or NO. Summary: Outline is good for first time intuitives
Review: The practical outline provided in this book is easy to follow for those new to working with their intuition. Packed with excercises to test accuracy and access inner answers, Practical Intuition is like a self-study program to the world of the sixth sense.

Best for readers who are into seeing intuition as a tool to help with decision-making. But if you are one who believes in having a spiritual base while being "third-eye open" this material is anemic in soul-centered higher purpose intuition. For those who prefer an intuition training book rich in "soul work" ... Divine Intuition and The Psychic Pathway offer that dimension of being a six sensory being.

Laura Day is a celebrity psychic so her accuracy must be beyond the average. However, she seems to rely alot on celebrity endorsements from well-known names, and the name dropping from movie stars creates an impression of guru-generating rather then a sharing of wisdom.

Summary: Intuition is not guessing, but using available information.
Review: There seems to be a rash of these feel good, deceptively easy ways to solve your life's problems including this book and others, such as Solved By Sunset. We all would like to be able to easily resolve problems in our lives, but in reality, these solutions are often difficult and complex. Many of these problems deserve serious consideration and books such as this mislead and could potentially harm a reader. Day suggests methods such as picking the first thing that comes to your mind and associating that image as an answer to a yet unknown question or dilemma. This approach is useful in a creativity technique called brainstorming where random images may draw up new ways to look at a situation. The difference is that in brainstorming these are just items for consideration, not cast in stone answers to your problems. Intuition is using conscious and unconscious information your brain has gathered over time to derive solutions. For instance, you may observe a person in a number of situations and derive a feeling or intuition about that person. You may or may not be able to give your reasons for that opinion. Your intuition may allow you to associate past experiences with other people to derive an intuition about a new acquaintance. Your brain is using real experiences to help you better deal with new situations. This is very helpful and valuable. To fine tune your intuitive powers, you need to train yourself to be more observant. It is sad that seemingly easy methods to solve problems are becoming in-vogue. Far better would be information on how to make better decisions based on the most accurate information. But easy is "feel-good" and that, while potentially leading to an increase in bad decisions, seems to be what people want. Experience with these methods will be the real teacher. Sure, these methods will work occasionally just by pure chance, but do you want to base important decisions on chance? Even Day says that sometimes her methods work and sometimes they don't, with no indication when you will be successful.

Summary: No Intuition
Review: This book asserts that we're all born with an intuitive sense, and that we don't normally use it because we've not been educated about it from the start. But we can play "catch up" and make our lives better in the process, by practicing Laura Day's exercises.

This book does NOT assert that the "power" is either working or not working. Laura clearly states that whether we get the answer correct or not, that it is our interpretation of the internal data that makes all the difference. So, that means that a daisy will mean something different to you than it does to me. Also, it's like anything else ... don't we have to practice ANYTHING new for quite awhile before we are comfortable with our sense of what we have and haven't done correctly? In the very beginning, perhaps you might rationally think a daisy means one thing and you then discover that it actually means something totally different (to you).

A lot of mistakes, too, are made by when we try to force images on ourselves, instead of letting them come on their own. It helps tremendously to be as relaxed as possible. Very impatient and uptight people will be the first to (wrongly) criticize books of this kind, because they don't choose to slow down enough to play the intuition game correctly. And, we've all been there, right? It just helps to recognize that the end results are better when we are as calm and collected as possible.
