Rating: Summary: Another winner by one of women's fiction best writers Review: ..... What is a young woman to do when she has achieved her professional goals? Easy, she looks at her personal life and establishes goals for that too. This is the case with Hallie McCarthy, who has accomplished what she set out to do with her career. Now, she decides it is time to take care of Hallie, starting with finding a spouse and following that up with children. Her next door neighbor in her classy condo is divorcee Steve Marris, who is not interested in any long term relationships because he still clings to getting back together with his ex-wife. Even after his children tell him that she will never return to him, he struggles to move on with his life.
...... Hallie joins the dating scene and finds that achieving her first personal goal may take more work than her accomplishing her professional achievements. Her dates are worse then nuclear meltdowns, with the only good thing coming out of them is the opportunity to beg taxi money from Steve. This soon leads to a close friendship that both are reluctant to examine to closely because it means she may have found her goal living right next door.
...... No one today tells a more humorous contemporary romance then the Divine Debbie Macomber. Her latest romp, THIS MATTER OF MARRIAGE, will remind readers of some of those classic thirties screwball romantic comedies, within a nineties environment. There is one constant in this author's works: great writing from one of the genre's masters.

Rating: Summary: Tick, tock - tick, tock. . . Review: Any woman--every woman, any age from 15-? , whatever her marital status-single, widowed, divorced, never-or multi-married, childless or a many-times-grandma will relate to this rollicking saga of a today's woman seeking marriage. When successful business-woman Hallie McCarthy suddenly realizes that she'll celebrate birthday number thirty in four months, she also realizes that she wants a husband and babies--and in that order. She gives no consideration whatever to her new next-door neighbor, Steve Marris, divorced with two pre-teens, although she does come to accept him as a friend. Of course, everyone knows that good friends and/or neighbors do not lovers make. In that case, Hallie wonders, "A nice friendly good-night between neighbors shouldn't curl a woman's toes." Should it? Her best friend, Donnalee, who at 33, wants much the same thing as Hallie, signs up for an expensive dating service, and convinces Hallie to join her. The descriptions of their 'perfect dates' will have you rolling on the floor, laughing, as you recognize your own variations on this theme. When Steve and Hallie connive a double blind-date with her friend Donnalee (for Steve) and his friend Todd (for Hallie), the plan backfires when the two friends make instant sparks, recognizing each other from high school days. Set during the course of a year, with intermittent journal entries displaying Hallie's innermost thoughts about THIS MATTER OF MARRIAGE, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll celebrate right along with her, as, in Debbie Macomber's inimitable fashion, she, and everywoman, triumphs.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written.... Review: Hallie is about to reach her 30th birthday when she realizes she has spent too much time with her business, and the time has come to find a husband and make some kids. She rationalizes that it will take two or three months to find the right man, and she should be pregnant within a year. Things don't go quite that smothly. She, along with her good friend get set up by everyone from good friends, to secretaries, to dating services, and go through some pretty funny and disasterous experiances. I really enjoyed this light harted book, which explored the ups and down of dating and relationships. If your looking for a good book to read, you should definatly read this one.

Rating: Summary: Hilariously Romantic Review: I absolutely love the way Debbie Macomber takes ordinary people and circumstances and turns them into hours of entertainment. This Matter of Marriage is the story of Hallie. A woman approaching the big three-o who is looking for a husband and father of her future children. Enter the newly-divorced next door neighbor. This book had me laughing out loud. The antics of Hallie in her search for a husband were hysterical. And the dates she went on were so funny. And I absolutely loved the titles of the chapters. It was like watching an episode of Frasier only in print. Debbie Macomber has a way of taking everyday life and writing about it in a way that is entertaining and heartwarming. This is romance with people that could possibly be living next door to you. I can't say enough about this book or Ms. Macomber. Both are delightful. This is definitely a must read.... Warning: Be prepared to laugh!!!

Rating: Summary: A prize! A prize! Review: I listened to the audio of this book and have to say two things: First, it is a six-star story. It's funny and fun, with a hanky needed toward the end. Story details aren't really necessary -- it's a wonderful example of Debbie Macomber's work. Basically, two people who live next door to each other take the long way around to discover that they are perfect for each other. They start out as friends, and discover love along the way. The second thing is that I have listened to a vast collection of audio books while driving to and from work over the years and have found NONE read better than Paula Parker read this one. The young children in the story are a key element, and her voices for the characters are perfect. You will enjoy this story and its presentation. Highly recommended.
