Summary: No reviewers have read between the lines
Review: I'm glad so many readers enjoyed this book, but I fear that a flag is covering many of their eyes. Do you always believe everything the mainstream media or the mainstream government tells you? This is the same media that helped perpetuate lies about a country that posed no threat to us, and a government that originated those lies in order to make war on that same sovereign nation.

If you read this book, you no doubt felt the frustration of agents in the field who tried to connect the dots, only to have their superiors squash their efforts time and again. Local divisions were following each other's tails and going in circles. And agencies were tripping over themselves. It was all very convenient.
Now, think for a minute about the fact the Mr. bin Laden, if he still exists, was a long-time asset for the ruling clan in Washington. Go further, and ask yourself, if these agencies couldn't catch 'the terrorists' after all those years of investigation and they erred enough to allow the 'terrorists' to do 9-11, how were they able to show pictures of 'the terrorists' within hours of the event?? It doesn't make sense! Unless, you throw out the official story and think about who is actually benefiting from the "war" on the "terrorists". The bottom line is that the agents on 'the street' are the real good guys, but somewhere up the chain of command, there are some stinky fish who are responsible for a lot more than they're telling us.

Don't give in to fear. Don't give in to hate. Don't accept "official" yet simple stories that tie everything up in simple packages like "They"/"Islamic extremeists"/"Terrorists"/"Freedom-haters" did it. The world doesn't work so nice and simply, folks.
QUESTION AUTHORITY. "During a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is an act of dissent."

Summary: A psychic helps the FBI and the Victims Go to the Light - A
Review: If you have ever wondered about people who die quickly - if they "go to the light" or wait around as ghosts for a while, and how we can help them transition, you may want to read Tiffany Snow's Psychic Gifts in the Christian Life - Tools to Connect. She has a personal experience in her book about 9-11, and how she ended up out-of-body to help 5 people on the plane transition successfully. She explains that victims who die quickly are often in shock, and don't really know that they are dead - they think "the angel and relatives that show up to escort them, are the dream, and not the reality." During her time of "reliving and relieving" the last few moments before impact with each of the five, she was able to see the terrorists, what they were wearing and doing, etc, and the next day sent sketches and information to the FBI...and their unexpected, positive response. Much good is in this book about "the other side," and I just wanted to pass on the info, it was interesting to me, and comforting, and especially for the victim's families, might fill in a few of the gaps.

Summary: Wake Up Call
Review: John Miller wrote a compelling account of the events leading up to 9/11. I found the book engaging and I am outraged that our government fell asleep at the switch. John Miller is to be commended for revealing the ineptitude of the CIA and the FBI. His book should be required reading for all agents. Thanks to The Cell, the citizens of the United States are alerted.

Summary: Required Reading
Review: Just finished reading The Cell. If anyone wants to know what went wrong on 9/11 just read this book. To try and blame one person or organization, except for the terrorists, for the death and destruction on 9/11 would be foolish. If the Towers were brought down in 1993 and toppled over each other, the death count would have been well over 100,000. John Miller, Stone and Mitchell do an incredible story detailing the events leading up to 9/11. I don't know the party affliation with any of these men but the story they present is fascinating. The book is summed up the best on page 332; Terrorism is cyclical, left alone it always comes back, usually bolder and more lethal. Additionally the fight against terrorism can't be conducted from afar, it requires in your face old fashion investigation. No matter how many lasers we have, smart bombs, stealth fighters, etc. what we need is 100 Louie Napoli, Don Sadowy and John O'Neils. Book should be required reading for all high school students, never to forget or let your guard down.

Summary: A great introduction into 1990s terrorism
Review: Many are asking the question of why the FBI and CIA failed to anticipate and prevent September 11, yet few have delivered as promising an answer as John Miller, Michael Stone and Chris Miller. (All three are journalists; Mr. Miller is one of the few Westerners to have interviewed Osama bin Laden, an account of which we read in the book).

The book begins in 1990 and traces the evolution of US-targeted Islamic terrorism. Starting with the assassination of Rabbi Meir Kahane (founder of the Jewish Defense League), "The Cell" chronicles such events as the bombing of the World Trade Center, the attacks against the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the attack on the USS Cole, and September 11.

The narrative is fluid, indeed impressively so. Although the authors follow the lives of dozen terrorists and their activities, at no point does the reader feel lost. In fact, "The Cell" is probably as good an introduction as there is on those involved with September 11. What is also striking is the authors' tone: this book really feels like an answer to the question "why the FBI and CIA failed to stop the 9/11," rather than, "who should we blame for September 11."

In the end, the authors believe that America was just not alert enough to anticipate the threat. Inadequate coordination between the FBI, CIA, INS and others also played a big role, as did the fact that politics often undermined the work of intelligent officers. Unless these change, the authors warn, September 11 will not be the last terrorist attack that America suffers.

Summary: Intriguing
Review: Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. It reveals the unheard story of the 9/11 terrorists and how they managed to carry out the horrific September 11th attacks.
The part that I found the most intriguing, and disturbing, was how there were steps that could have been taken by the American government to prevent the attacks, if only they had stepped up to the plate early on.

This book is definitely worth the read.

Summary: Where is G. W. Bush's culpability?
Review: The book puts much of the blame on the CIA and FBI, but what about G. W. Bush? What about his business dealings with the bin Laden family? What about the check Colin Powell gave the Taliban in spring 2001? And why were bin Laden's family (several of whom were in the U.S. on 9/11) given safe passage out of the country just days afterwards?

In the U.K., Salman Rushdie was quoted as saying he could not board a plane in the U.S. just PRIOR to 9/11, based on terrorist fears. (You can find his exact quote with a google command.) So the CIA, FBI, Bush (?) knew something was up. But these facts and more have been ignored by the mainstream U.S. media, including Mr. Miller (to his credit, he does mention the disturbing fact that after being elected, Bush pulled out the two submarines off of Afghanistan who were poised to launch an attack on bin Laden's camp there).

I believe the fairer word for the 9/11 tragedy is not "failure" but "willful ignorance."

Mr. Miller is an excellent journalist and his book is well worth reading, but it is not definitive.

Summary: Easy to read, coherent, informative, and balanced.
Review: The Cell is an excellent explanation of the rise of the Islamists bin Ladin at all) and why our Law Enforcement could not stop 9-11; despite the clues and leads pre 9-11. Miller, Stone and Mitchell weave an easy to read, coherent, informative, balanced, can't put down tail of many terrorists actions and failed actions leading up to 9-11. This is a must read for all of us, we need to get informed about what we are facing.

Summary: History of Terrorism 1990 to 2001
Review: THE CELL is written with the suspense, drama, and emotional impact of a fictional thriller usually found on the bestseller lists. Sorrowfully, it is not fiction. Instead, it is a well-written, thought-provoking history of terrorism as practiced by Islamic fundamentalists, from the assassination in 1990 of Jewish Defense League founder Meir Kahane to the planned attack of 9/11.

The book gives a vivid account of the seperate and often parallel investigations by the men and women of the FBI, CIA, and New York's Joint Terrorism Task Force as well as the investigative arms of several foreign governments. It cites numerous examples of the behaviors, suspicions, warnings, and vital information uncovered and possessed by one agency but withheld from the others. Whether due to professional jealousy, competition, or snobbery is to miss the point. The practice of one law enforcement agency acting in a vacuum must be discarded if the United States expects to remain safe. The message of THE CELL, in my mind, is to first acknowledge that numerous mistakes were made by every branch of government during both Democratic and Republican administations; and secondly, to learn from those mistakes and work together in a bi-partisan way to protect ourselves.

There has been a plethora of books following the terrorist attack of September 11, but THE CELL is one of the most important. It provides insight into what the U.S. was thinking and doing about terrorism prior to the attacks with the advantage of hindsight. The importance lies not in finding someone to blame but rather to learn how something so catastrophic could happen and to look for ways to prevent it from happenning in the future.
