Summary: SOUNDER by William H. Armstrong
Review: Sounder written by William H. Armstrong is a wonderful exciting adventure that includes: action, suspense, mystery, and animals. Although many things happen, I'd say the genre would be considered adventure/historical fiction. You decide when you read it yourself!
Sounder is a coon hound loved by the man who took him in. The story takes place in the cornfields where the boy's father works earning little money for his big family. They're all slaves living in a cabin suitable for them. Sounder was growing useful for many things like hunting, and guarding. But one night, his lone bark was all that mattered. One morning a fresh smelling ham cooked on the stove. But that night a sheriff and his deputies came because had been reported stolen. Sounder barked warning the family. And after that the boy's life was never the same. To find out what happens read Sounder.
I gave this book a good rating, a 4 out of five stars. It was over-all a good book except a couple of slow chapters. I recommend this book to someone who likes a detailed book, someone who likes a challenge. The author uses Old English and slang, so it's sometimes hard to comprehend what he is saying. He is detailed in his writing and helps you paint a picture of what is happening. If you enjoyed the books Old Yeller and Roll of Thunder hear my Cry you would probably like this book. This book was definitely worthwhile. So go grab the book Sounder and you won't be sorry!

Summary: I LIKE THIS BOOK
Review: The book i read was Sounder, by Willam H. Armstrong, is a great book for children ages ten and up. I like Sounder because it tells about how times used to be when blacks were treated poorly, and what the had to do for to get food on there table. It is a story that touches your heart, and you would feel sorry for what is going on in there lives. The book is about a black family, who are sharecroppers, and have a dog named Sounder who is loved very much by his family, and which they take care of. The father is forced to steal for his starving family but is caught and put in jail for what he has done. I recommend this book for a wonderful reading experience, and for kids that like reading novels or that would like to know what know how familys of the 19th century had to do to live like they wanted to. So enjoy the book!

Summary: Sounder
Review: Sounder, by William H. Armstrong, wasn't really what I expeced. I figured it would be more like the book Old Yeller, but it was alright. I thoguht that maybe it would be more interesting, i personally thought it was boring for the most part but in some cases I could stay interested. It is more of a lower reading level than what I expected. I would recomend this book mainly to my younger brother which is 12.
The plot is about a younger boy who is living through the times when blacks were discriminated against. The boy really didn't have very much, but what he had he was grateful for. His dad had stolen food to feed his family and got caught and the rest of the story was about the boy trying to find his dad.
The book was lacking an emotional reaction. None of the characters ever really reacted to much to things that happened throughout the book. When the boys father was being taked away the mother just kind of stood there and went back inside to take care of the kids. Or when the boy got his hand cut really bad by the security guard he really didn't even do too much. He cried and everything but he never yelled or screamed like a person would if they cut their hand as bad as it was described.
I would recommend this book to younger kids, not an older age range of people because it is easy too lose interest and too easy to read. There is no challenge.

Summary: Sound indeed!
Review: With the exception of the dog, all the other characters are nameless. Nevertheless, these characters are so exquisitely realised and depicted that they become quickly endearing.

The themes elevate positive traits such as resilience and dignity thus making the story wholesome reading for young people.

This is a good book for practising speed-reading too. Recommended.
