Rating: Summary: Molly goes where the corporate media won't Review: Ah, bless Molly's heart. If it wasn't for her and Jim Hightower the political landscape here in the Great State would be as brutal and unforgiving as the landscape of West Texas.Oscar Wilde said "Deep down I'm really shallow", and if Dubya had even an ounce of self awareness (or sense of humor) he'd be able to say the same. This man is living proof that "Compassionate Conservative" is an oxymoron.
Rating: Summary: jitanner@mindspring.com Review: Molly is a little left of me, about 60 miles. Her heart is in the right place, even when her concerns are a little more in favor of the mentally challenged and agin the economically empowered. Her book on George W., which I heard in the audio version, is a sippin' whiskey sort of thing, that should be taken during the quiet time of the day. Her courage in writing it, against a formidable presidential candidate is only heightened by the very high probability that he could actually become the President of the United States.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This easy to read and factual primer on George W. Bush is a great service to our country. Stuck with a media that will not ask the important questions, or follow up on any statement candidates make, this book provides great insight into Bush's political record. And it speaks for itself. I could never imagine a candidate for president more alienating to the underprivileged, poor, and despised of our nation. Chapters on the environmenatal record, crimal justice, and Brownsville are quite revealing. All Americanians, I mean Americans, should read this one.
Rating: Summary: Shrub, Molly Ivins Review: Outstanding review of the Bush govenorship of Texas. Everyone caring about the current elections should become informed. The cd is easy to listen to, read by Ms Ivins. McCain and Gore supporters both should listen to these words or read the print. Flowing information. Easy to understand and very revealing.Great sense of humor and sense of history. Answers many of the questions raised in the recent primary elections.
Rating: Summary: Ivins' humor leavens Dubya's vapidity Review: Now that Dubya has the nomination, this book becomes even more valuable. The book is basically about Dubya's record as a Texas Governor. I've lived in the state for 33 years; Dubya's record is simply not there. Dubya is the quintessential nice guy. He's the kind of pal you'd want as a neighbor. He'd be a good beer-drinking buddy. He wants to be president so that he can make mom and dad proud. Good motivation, but a poor reason to want to run a country. Ivins provides strong evidence that, when it comes to Dubya, there is no there there. I challenge readers to find mistakes in Ivins' analysis of the record.
Rating: Summary: The real truth Review: Now the rest of the world can find out what we Texans have known all along. The Texas governership is a title only. The Texas gov has very little power. George W. is all hat and no cattle. Ask any Texas school teacher about what he has done for education, she will laugh in y our face. Molly has been funnier, but she has never been more truthful. The woman knows and understands Texas politics, and where the bodies are buried!
Rating: Summary: Just the Facts. Review: If you are truly interested in the bare bones facts of who you are being seduced into voting for, this is the book for you. Molly Ivins is one of the most honest and unbiased reporters on the scene today. If you haven't heard of her, it's because she has a nasty propensity for telling the truth ... and the propogandists who spend fortunes controlling your beliefs can't cope with that. Before you vote, whatever your politcal persuasion, read this book. Find out who the man is you're voting for, and who bought and paid for him.
Rating: Summary: An insightful look into a real "character" Review: Molly Ivins captures the essence of W's "character". He is a man of many words and an image of his own making. However, the reality of his life and administration in Texas is something else again. Ms. Ivins exposes the "son-who-would-be-president" for what he really is. And she does so in a wholly engaging style with charm and wit.
Rating: Summary: Eye Opener Review: I had never heard of Molly Ivans before reading Shrub. I thank her for this quick, easy to follow, read. I received her book compliments of a pal who questioned my voting for Gov. Bush. I began reading with total skepticism but eventually accepted that I voted in total ignorance (not the first time unfortunately). I urge anyone who is truly seeking to be an informed voter to purchase this book. IT SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR ALL VOTERS. You'll quickly see through the rhetoric you've heard in television ads and shake your head in wonder. Given that this man was handed the baton to be our next leader, I'm terribly offended that we haven't heard more about his coattail accomplishments and seedy record, especially where children and lawsuits are concerned. Now when I hear him or one of his allies say "tort reform" I scream at the TV! Clinton is an embarrassment but even he hasn't been personally bailed out by the taxpayers. Yet. God help this country!
Rating: Summary: Dubya who? Review: This should be must reading for any voter that wants to become informed. The inattention of the national press to George W. Bush's record is revealing as to who owns whom. The 30 second Commercial is destroying democracy. Read this and get the facts. Pray for the Republic if this empty suit is elected President. Last but not least, worry about the power and money behind the throne. I'm afraid we are losing the war to plutocracy. The cynical point of view that it does not matter who we vote for is disproven by this down to earth expose of Bush's record. Please read it. I'm afraid that Texas has been hoodwinked by the money and the name, God Help Us!
