Rating: Summary: An absurd controversy, "Did she say yes?" Review: I just finished reading the book. I do not believe it is a literary masterpiece, worthy of a 5-star rating. But, it is a great story about a modern day teenager's struggle with the issues of life. As the father of two teenage children, I appreciate Misty Bernall for writing the book. Had the tragedy at Columbine High not happened, and the book written of Cassie; it probably would never have been published. I say that from a marketing viewpoint. Parents and teenagers are drawn to the book because of the tragedy, not because of the life of a 1990's teenager. I guess the "truth" of the book shows us where our heart, and our priorities are. To settle the argument, Cassie did in fact say "yes". We do not know whether she said "yes" on April 20, 1999, but we do know that in March 1997, at a youth retreat in Estes Park, she did say "yes". She made a decision to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She made a decision to die to her old self and to live in the newness of Christ. Her life story from then up to April 20, 1999 testifies of this. We Americans have trouble accepting tragedy. We either look for a hero to idolize, or look to place the blame on someone for the tragedy. Throughout this book, Misty is telling us that Cassie was no saint. She was a teenager who struggled with life's issues, both before and after March 1997. It tells us of parents following a course of action to turn the life of their much loved daughter around. I commend Misty Bernall for writing this book, and sharing the "truth" of her daughter's life. For, if she had not, the "legend" of Cassie Bernall would have grown way out of proportion. By quickly writing this book, Misty protected the "integrity" of her daughter. This book was the only way Misty could properly honor her daughter.
Rating: Summary: This book made a huge impact on me Review: I bought this book today and read it in a few hours, that itself was amazing considerig i am one of these normal teen aged girls who rarely reads unless is told to do so. I am 16 years old & I along with the many others was totally devastated when, the shooting occured. It is really scary to think, that the same thing could happen at my school. When I read this book, it's like I realized my life has been like Cassie's was, scary & cruel. I read the book & it has made me think alot...Especially how much I now cherish every moment I am alive, every moment I am with my family & friend's those are the things I took for granted. I realized too, like cassie did, that I need to start listening to my parents because you never know what may happen in the moment. I wish there was some way I could thank Mrs. Bernell for writing this book, it means so much to me & has helped me to understand myself alot. I also wish, that we could all learn from this experiance & decide that no matter how unloved or how unpopular you think you are in school, violence is NOT the key. I wish to say to Mrs. Bernall & all of her family who were so devastated & tortchured bythis shooting, Cassie will never be forgotten & even for those of us who never met her or you, we feel Cassie & we know she is alive. In loving memory of Cassie Bernall ~Stop the Violence~
Rating: Summary: The amazing life of Cassie Bernall Review: This book is very life touching for a young teen like myself to see Cassie go though all these up and downs in her life. She is faced with many decsions in her life from her friends to her parents and relegion. The tragedy that happend at Columbine High School, where Cassie was very brave and stood up for what she believed in and suddenly her life ended that day. I want to thank her mother Misty Bernall for writing this book to see that her daughter is faced with the same problems as many other teens. I Believe after reading this book you really dont realize how much you should enjoy life while your here.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Book Any Christian Should Read! Review: This is a book that I recently picked up. Why? Being a Christian, and hearing about the horrible things that took place, I (like millions of other people around the world) heard about this girl, Cassie Bernall, who stood up to pure evil, and stood up for what she beleived. Titled "She Sais Yes", this book touched me, and helped me realize some of the horrible things out there...and the things God can do for them. Anyway, here's what I thought about this book dedicated to Cassie's life, "She Said Yes." 1) Depth and Story: This is a book a lot of people will enjoy reading. Why? It has a chapter about how this mother (the author of the book) faced hearing about the shootings at Columbine (her 2 children's school), to worrying all night, to finding out what had happend to her daughter and her reaction. It has a description of what happend to Cassie inside that building. How the killers came in, what they said, what everyone said, and of course, the 2 sentences that swept a nation. Q: "Do you beleive in God?" A: "Yes" There are chapters about parenting, some of the horrible things Cassie got into (Whichcraft, Satanic Church's, plotting the death of fellow teachers, students, and parents). There are chapters about parenting, about how Cassie grew up. It talks about the heroics that took place inside Columbine; for example, how a student dove in heroicly, and picked up a bomb lying next to several unaware students, and cast it away from harm. It talks about how a troubled, hateful, and in her own words, "Satan" controlled girl turned into one of the kindest, gentle, most caring teenage girls you'll ever meet. It talks about her life as a Christian, and the final months, weeks, and even days and the morning of her death. You really feel like you get to know Cassie and her parents, and gain an understanding of what happend that day at Columbine. 2) Moral and Length: This book really leaves you thinking. Thinking about some of the horrible people and things that are in this world. How quickly your life could end...and what would happen to your family and friends. It gave thought that even the most troubled, hateful, and fearful girls can turn into a ro-model who we all (in some ways) want to be like. It has a "Christian Theme", and you learn a little about the horrors that go on some of the darkest places. The moral is carried on throughout the whole thing: Good can come out of even the DARKEST evil, and to love and care for your family and friends...while you still have them. And to understand how precious life is, as it can be taken away in a heartbeat. As for the length of the book, its about 140 pages long. It'll take a fast reader for 30 minutes a day perhaps 4 or 5 days. And its a book you'll probably want to read several times. 3) Problems or Comments: Overall I really liked this book, but I do think that it is mostly a biography of Cassies's life. While there are different aspects here and there, its a story of Cassie's life from beggining to end. I think bringing in a little bit more of what happend at Columbine, the affect it had on the state of Colorado, church, etc...would have been nice. But on a high note, you really (if u keep reading) get something deep down out of the book, and really understand some of the horrible things kids can run into these days...and how you can escape them. It's a good book, but is it something I will read again and again... like "Where the Red Furn Grows" or the "Harry Potter" series? No. Overall, I'd reccomend this book toward anyone who is looking for something good to read, wants to know more about what happend at Columbine, or wants to know the girl that (as the title points out) said "Yes." Hope this helped, and I reccomend this book to all ages and readers. Thx!
Rating: Summary: Hits home! Review: As a teenager I was a lot like Cassey in so many ways (I even graduated from Columbine H.S.). It was almost like reading a story about myself! This book is packed with enormous truth! This book is not about Cassie Bernall becoming a saint or a martyr, as a matter of fact that's why the cover states: "the unlikely martyrdom of Cassie Bernall." This book is about a teenage girl who was on a bad path (like so many are) and whose parents used a lot of tough love to pull her out of destruction's path. By God's grace Cassie was pulled off that destructive path, and her life was changed. A lot of criticism has been made about Misty Bernall writing this book. Let me say that in defense of Misty that writing about a loved one can often help someone to better cope with a tragic death (I know it helps for me). But for another reason, Misty wrote this book because God led her to do so, to share this story as a warning to parents with troubled teenagers and as a testimony of her daughter's conversion. It has impacted to many lives, and from my own experience, I can honestly say that this book is right on the money in so many ways.
Rating: Summary: *A Teen Among The stars* Review: This story is very enjoyable! The teenage icon, the martyr are among many of the names critics have called the young teenager by the name of Cassie Bernall. Cassie is among many of the others that had their young life taken away from her during the Columbine High School incident. Cassie was a remarkable child and her bravery is acknowledged to the fullest. Cassie made a choice to answer a question honestly knowing that her life was in danger and her answer ended up costing her, her life. "She Said Yes" was very enjoyable and made me realize that life is beautiful and you should live life to the fullest. A quote from the book really caught my attention and made me think twice about how I live life. "It is easy to die for Christ, it is hard to live for him Dying takes only an hour or two, but to live for Christ means to die daily Only during the few tears of life are we given the privilege of serving each other and Christ We shall have heaven forever, but only a short time for service Therefore, we must not waste the opportunity". By Sadhu Sundar Singh I recommend this book to everyone, male, female of all ages pointing out High School Students. The book is encouraging and it makes you feel like you can do anything. "She said yes" is a tearjerker. Following your own mind and believing in what you feel is right is always the correct answer. I encourage all everyone just as Cassie did to do what they felt is right. Mothers and fathers will think different about their children. Parents will realize that there is more to their child than their physical appearance, that you must look deeper into your children.
Rating: Summary: A True Heart-Warming Story Review: I loved this book. When I first started reading it, I couldn't put it down! She Said Yes is a true story that tells the life of Cassie Bernall, who had a gun pointed at her at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, on April 20, 1999. This story is narrated by Cassie's mother, Misty Bernall. This story brings us back to the real meaning of peer pressure and Cassie's hardships with both her parents and friends, through the high school life of Cassie Bernall, a regular teenager in the Real World. There was one question that was to be answered when a gun was pointed to her head. Q: Do you believe in God? A: Yes. Through this story, you will learn how Cassie Bernall spent her last minutes and how tough her life had been before this tragic event happened. If you want to know the true meaning of overcoming the rough times of life and what it really means to lose a close friend, seen through the eyes of a real person, read She Said Yes.
Rating: Summary: "Live life so as to be able to face eternity at any time" Review: 'She Said Yes,' is a profoundly human story that everyone in life goes through. Once a deranged depressed teenager, who hung out with the wrong crowd. Not everyone can be apart of the in crowd. This story tells how old it is to live your life with all the chaos going on around her, while she later tries to find God. It also gives a message to parent's about their kids. Many things can wait. Children cannot. Today their bones are being formed, their blood is being made, and their senses are being developed. To them we cannot say 'tomorrow.' Their name is today. Many parent thinks they know their child but sometimes they find out that they don't know them at all. This book reminds to be more active in you kids life, or you could end up not knowing them at all, and learning about them after their gone. 'She Said Yes sends you on a dark and religious journey of a young girl who tried to live life with God and ended up paying for it. I recommend this book to teenagers who feel as if they don't fit in. I also recommend it to parents who have a suspicion that their kid is living a secret life. All people should be in touch with God. This book helps you understand that.

Rating: Summary: A lie Review: This book is propaganda. It is not true - "She" never "said yes". This word "martyrdom" in the title is entirely misleading - a martyr dies for a purpose, for something s/he believes in. I'm sure Cassie was a very nice girl - but not a martyr. She died in an act of senseless violence. The fact that her very own mother is capitalizing on the death of her daughter is disgusting to me. It is sad that so many Christians rally behind this book without checking the facts first.
