Summary: Helpful and Enjoyable
Review: This simple to follow and charming book allows people the freedom to eat a variety of foods while still losing weight. Somers is candid and humorous, which adds to the enjoyment of the reader.

Summary: Eat Great, Lose Weight
Review: I've never read a book that was such easy reading and made sense. There have been many attempts to lose weight, but this book tells it all. I've lost weight, as well as my husband and have referred others to this book, also with great success!! I've also purchased Dr. Schwarzbein's book and cookbook, also great!!!

Thanks, Hope Deckard

Summary: Suzanne Somers Eat Great, Lose Weight
Review: My doctor suggested I use this book to straighten out my metabolism. He diagnosed me as having hyperinsulinemin - producing too much insulin. This made me sluggish, think I was hungry when I'd just eaten, and caused me to eat sweets uncontrollably. Those that have been there know what I'm talking about on eating sweets - intend to eat one piece of candy and eat the whole box (or cookies or cake or you name it). There is a drawback to this book, though, that causes a problem for me. I'm allergic to milk and on the diet in this book rice milk is suggested to use with unsweetened cereals. Also use no fat with cereals. All the rice milk that seems to be on the market either contain sugars (rice syrup) or fat (safflower oil). I've been using the one with a sugar product as that is what I had on hand. I do have to say that I feel great since I've been following the plan as close as possible. I'm slowly losing weight - 4 pounds in 2 weeks. Have lots of energy and no desire for sweets. Fresh or dried fruit satisfies me. I've been eating 100 percent whole grain for years due to an allergy to processed refined flour so I love whole grain. So much more flavorful! I use the recipes in the book as a guide, but mostly use my own recipes. My husband is on a sodium and cholesterol restricted diet but I'm able to cook in such a way it suits both of us. I add extra fat and salt for me at the table. This book is one whose guidelines work!

Summary: A great introduction
Review: This book is a great introduction to food combining. As I've said in my other reviews of her Somersizing books she has done a great job of educating America on the low fat diet fallacy that has gripped this country for too long. Having lost my father and one of my sisters to diabetes related complications I felt it necessary to not take my health for granted.

I would recommend this program for any American but I prefer Michel Montignac's method. I have less sugar cravings using his method which seems to be more inclusive of meals with good carbohydrates, even in the first phase.

Summary: Eat Great, Lose Weight
Review: I purchased this book, along with "Sugar Busters". I had alot of high hopes that I would lose weight with the diet. But I didn't, primarily because I found it very difficult to change to the lifestyle of eating that is promoted in her book. I feel Suzanne's book is far more readable and interesting, more believable that "SugarBusters", simply because of her stories and wittiness. In fact, Suzanne's personal touch is felt throughout the book and you feel she's right there beside you as your personal coach. Despite the foregoing comments, I found I was not able to stay on the diet simply because I am constantly on the go, and don't have the time to plan ahead, which you really have to do with this diet. I accept much of what she said. There were some new thoughts - such as not using low-fat mayonnaise and other low-fat foods, stating the body needs fats to help our skin look good, etc. But the fact that she insists that fruits, if eaten with the rest of your meal are not healthy, causes indigestion. In support of her claim, a personal story is given of a visit to a friend's home and eating handfuls of cherries off their tree after having a full dinner and cocktails. She told of her sleepless night from terrible gas pains in her stomach. Anyway, her diet dictates fruits be eaten 20 minutes ahead of other foods, unless you are eating only a fruit meal. With my lifestyle, I found this a difficult task to do. The restrictions on foods that I have been taught by nutritionists in the past to be extremely healthy foods - such as bananas, potatoes, carrots, yams are all on her banned list due to high sugar content. I have a very difficult time accepting this. After about a month of trying to work this diet into my busy lifestlye, I finally abandoned it, because I couldn't be consistant with it, and therefore, the weight did not come off as I had hoped. We are all in quest looking for the magic diet. If you're willing to go strictly by the rules, I guess this could be it. If you're not, or only half-way following the diet, it won't work. You have to concientiously plan ahead and stick to it to lose weight with this diet. Good for you, those of you who can. But to me, is was not possible. I did, really enjoy reading the book, however, because I truly loved the author's wit and style of writing.

Summary: This is a great program!
Review: I can't wait to read the other books!

Summary: It gives me hope
Review: I never had a weight problem in my life until I started menopause. Now I have joined the ranks of many. I don't like it. I purchased Suzanne's book 2 weeks ago and love it. I am eating all the things I like and have lost 7 lbs. I have incorporated her way of cooking into the things I like best-I have always hated eggplant-but I like other things, like artichokes, asparagus etc. The candied tomatoes are a wonderful treat. I am hopeful with this new way of eating. I have found combining the right foods is not a problem for me, I don't get hungry but the greatest loss has been sourdough french bread. I am not a sweets eater but oh that bread. I am walking every day and feeling great. I recommend trying it-what do you have to loose besides pounds?

Summary: try it, it works
Review: I just finished reading a bad review (one star) on Suzanne's newer diet book and the reviewer recommended EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE and not Suzanne's books.

#1 I'd like to see a recent photo of this guy and #2 I'd like to see his nutrition credentials.

I bought this book, read this book and have followed the advise in this book and IT WORKS. It's not magic, it's not a fad and it's not even necessarily new information. She explains the principles of food combining and adds her own personal experiences.

It works because it's sound. You can even use these principles to gain weight if you need to. (Don't laugh, some people do.)

Especially, helpful was the way she jazzes up vegetables (yuck).

Suzanne, if your listening, more recipes please. Especially ones with the more exotic vegetables because we need our phytonutrients, right?

Summary: Take this book wherever you go!
Review: This book was a Godsend! My aunt told me about it, so I tried it using her suggestions, and after I lost 4 lbs in one week I decided I would buy the book. I went on to lose another 30 lbs in 3 months (who says this doesn't work?!). I also kept it off for an entire year. I started stress eating, so I'm going back to reading the book again to get back on track. The recipes are so good, even my kids like them! I also have Get Skinny on Fabulous Foods, and just put in my order for her new book.

Summary: Healthy eating?
Review: For those that would like to believe this is a healthy way to eat, go for it. If you believe that we are a fat, unhealthy country because we eat too many carbohydrates and not enough meat, this book is for you. If you would just like to look at Somers' picture, buy it. But if you are overweight, have diabetes or one of many other problems related to diet, look elsewhere. We are being duped in this country-the message from people like Somers is overwhelming the truth. Be careful.
