Summary: I wasn't a "detective" book reader -- until I met Sandford
Review: I love great literature, and once-upon-a-time, I tried to focus on the National Book Award winners, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and other international authors who could tell a good story in an interesting way. For variety, I read the earlier Stephen King books, and some "hard" science fiction, like Bob Forward. In a funk, and bored with several wonderful books I was plodding through, I heard an advertisement for "Mind Prey" (the previous "Lucas Davenport" novel) by 'John Sandford.' In a moment of -- for me -- consumer frenzy, I saw it at a local drugstore and bought it. Wow! I researched the author, and began to get his "Prey" books and read them from first (Rules of Prey) to last (Sudden Prey). 'Sandford' really knows how to tell a story; his characters are interesting and believable, and while there's plenty of "blood and guts," its all in the context of solid, you-are-there plotting. Sudden Prey, as usual, made me stop in the middle of a chapter, and say aloud, "no, no: that can't happen!" Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong, and I give all the credit in the world to 'John Sandford' for getting me involved enough to care about the characters he creates. And, I still enjoy the National Book Award-type "good" literature I once thought was the only thing "intelligent" people should read. I'll read everything this guy puts out. If Sudden Prey is your first Sandford book, you'll go back and read the rest -- and I recommend them all. Jack Flynn

Summary: Sandford's "prey" delivers again!
Review: My 1996 New Year's resolution to buy only paperback was thrown out the window when I saw "Sudden Prey", the new John Sandford novel. And it was a resolution worth throwing out; Sandford does not disappoint. I found myself reading the morning newspaper, wondering if the serial killers had been caught yet. I was so frustrated with his fiance's lack of understanding for her danger and Davenport's commitment to his work, that I wanted a way to have a dialogue with her. I had to keep reminding myself that she wasn't a real person. In typical Sandford "prey" fashion, the action keeps you hanging on up to the very last page of the book. Don't miss this latest addition to the Prey series. But be warned, it will leave you anxious to find out what he could possibly come up with next!

Summary: Great Sanford Suspense
Review: "Sudden Prey" is the latest addition John Sanford's "Prey" novels. This series is known for great stories, suspense, and characters. The lead character of "Sudden Prey" is once again Chief Lucas Davenport of the Minneapolis Police Department. In this story Lucas is once again on the trail of some sadistic serial killers. Their leader is out to avenge the deaths of his sister and wife at the hands of the Minneapolis police. His plan is simple - to kill the loved ones of the police officers involved in the shooting. This is a great addition to the "Prey" series. Lucas is once again very believable in his quest to find the killers. Although "Sudden Prey" will not win any literary achievement awards, it is an exciting book. A great read for the summer.

Summary: Tired main character
Review: Sanford has over done leading character. After many books with same location and characters a new theme and cast of characters is needed.

Summary: Revenge is a B- - - - h
Review: In this "Prey" installment by Sandford, Davenport and his team are faced with a cold-blooded killer who has one thing on his mind. Revenge. After his sister and wife are killed in a foiled bank robbery attempt, an extreme right-winged government hating milita member seeks revenge on the policemen who are responsible. After he escapes from prison, he enlists a few members, including a dirty cop, seeking vengeance against those responsible for his sister and wife's deaths.

A very tense thriller with non-stop action and excitement. I had a hard time putting this one down. Sudden Prey could rank as one of Sandford's best novels.

Summary: Sandford is simply brilliant!!!
Review: After starting to read this book, I just couldn't put it down. There was always something interesting happening, and you get caught up in this Triller with no way to escape.
James Qatar has a thing for the neck of pretty blondes, and can't keep away from them. After a dead body has been found he no longer feels safe and becomes more and more careless. Even though he knows he cannot keep feeding his desire, it just gets too stong. Capable of anything, he finds himself another pretty blonde...

Lucas Davenport is the brilliant Deputy Chief who, despite the difficulties he sees the future will bring, takes on the mission to stop the killings and find out who is the one behind it all.
Sandford is a brilliant writer and once you start reading it, there's no way out. His way of writing makes you feel that you're in the middle of it all, experiencing and seeing everything through the eyes of the writer.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves ficion!!

Summary: Another Great Sanford Read
Review: Lucas Davenport is at it again and this time it's getting a little to close for comfort. Definitely a great read (not one of my favorite Sanford books, Secret Prey is definitely far better) and it will keep you on your toes. This is the 7th in the Prey series so if you haven't read it yet, definitely pick it up.

Summary: A good book by a great author.
Review: A good book by a great author. I have much respect for this author who can write what would easily become clich??, but provides enough variety that the series read in sequence creates a very good ongoing story. The event in this book wasn't quite as fun for me as others in the series, but the story still unfolds in the solid realistic tale that I have come to expect from Sandford. Even though I don't rate this book as high as his others, within the context of the whole series, Sandford's work holds my highest appreciation. What specifically brought down the 'fun factor' in this book was that it spent more time with the bad guys and less with Lucas and company. The Davenport angle is what makes the books for me.

Summary: One of Sanford's Best
Review: Finally a "Prey" I can connect with and get my mind around. Sanford keeps you guessing right up to the end. Just when you think you have it solved, he throws this incredile curve ball at you. A well-rounded way of bringing past characters into this novel. It makes you want to go back and re-read other "Prey's" just so you can stay in the moment. Well done Mr. Sanford, looking forward to the next "Prey".
