Davenport's ability to unfold the plot is extraordinary. This time he finds murder is hitting close to home. The action is non-stop and I could not put it down. Davenport finds the motive for the killings are revenge. I loved reading this book, once you start to read you are hooked!

This series is known for great stories, suspense, and characters. The lead character of "Sudden Prey" is once again Chief Lucas Davenport of the Minneapolis Police Department. In this story Lucas isonce again on the trail of some sadistic serial killers. Their leader is out to avenge the deaths of his sister and wife at the hands of the Minneapolis police. His plan is simple - to kill the loved ones of the police officers involved in the shooting. This is a great addition to the "Prey" series. Lucas is once again very believable in his quest to find the killers. Although "Sudden Prey" will not win any literary achievement awards, it is an exciting book. A great read for the summer.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is my first Prey novel .... Review: This is my first Prey novel and after I was done I wanted to give it a 50/50 reply, but on second thought I think it was a fascinating read. The author introduced several characters of dept with ease, kept a quick pace of throughout the book made a book that was very plausible. In many cases, write create situations to make parts of the story feasible, but this was not the case. Sudden Prey is a chain of events that could happen any day to any of use. Collateral damage is easily seen here. The characters, nearly all, don't have tunnel vision throughout the plot as well. There are family challenges as well as cause and effect thoughts that make what the character says, all the more normal. I give it a 4 of 5.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A thrilling read Review: Sudden Prey is one of the best and most fast-paced mysteries I have read this year. Lucas Davenport and his team are on a man-hunt which quickly turns into a war between the good guys and the bad guys. The suspense is intense all the way through, and the book is un-putdownable. It is a book in John Sandford's Prey-series, but one does not have to have read all the previous novels to be able to really enjoy this. Do not read this book if you have things to do, you will not be able to do anything else but read! Highly recommendable.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of his best!! Review: This is one of my favourites in the Prey series. Two females are shot in a bank robery, and the husband of one of them escapes from prison. Now he wants to get his revenge, but not by taking it out directly on the police officers. He wants them to suffer as he is, and wanting nothing by revenge, he's going after their families... Sandford is a master of writing about different motives for the killings in all his thrillers. Previously I've read about someone killing because (s)he feels (s)he have to do it, another time I read about a much more dangerous motivation, the profit. In this book, Sudden Prey, the main character, Lucas Davenport, is facing the most simple and purest motivation, which is revenge. But can his killer-instinct, fast thinking and intelligence help him to solve this case? Sandford has the ability of making you so curious about what will happen, that you simply can't put the book away. You have to finish it right away. And if you enjoy the Prey series, this book is a must. Certainly one his best. A great book also recommended to anyone who loves to read, and those who like thillers.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Another Great Sanford Read Review: Lucas Davenport is at it again and this time it's getting a little to close for comfort. Definitely a great read (not one of my favorite Sanford books, Secret Prey is definitely far better) and it will keep you on your toes. This is the 7th in the Prey series so if you haven't read it yet, definitely pick it up.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A good book by a great author. Review: A good book by a great author. I have much respect for this author who can write what would easily become cliché, but provides enough variety that the series read in sequence creates a very good ongoing story. The event in this book wasn't quite as fun for me as others in the series, but the story still unfolds in the solid realistic tale that I have come to expect from Sandford. Even though I don't rate this book as high as his others, within the context of the whole series, Sandford's work holds my highest appreciation. What specifically brought down the 'fun factor' in this book was that it spent more time with the bad guys and less with Lucas and company. The Davenport angle is what makes the books for me.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of Sanford's Best Review: Finally a "Prey" I can connect with and get my mind around. Sanford keeps you guessing right up to the end. Just when you think you have it solved, he throws this incredile curve ball at you. A well-rounded way of bringing past characters into this novel. It makes you want to go back and re-read other "Prey's" just so you can stay in the moment. Well done Mr. Sanford, looking forward to the next "Prey".
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best example of the Prey series... Review: I read 4 or 5 of the Prey novels years ago, and have recently finished the series. Since starting again with them, this is probably the best I have read. Be sure to start this book when you have time to finish it, because you will not want to put it down...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: 8th in the Prey Series Review: 'Sudden Prey' starts with a botched bank robbery, and ends with a plot for revenge. Because of the death of his family in a shoot-put with Lucas Davenport and his team of detectives, Dick LeChaise vows revenge on the cops involved, as well as their families. He even breaks out of prison to do it. As a stand-alone book, this might not be 5 stars, however, in the context of this series it is definitely deserves those 5 stars. If you would like to start reading the 'Prey' series, start with 'Rules of Prey.' Otherwise, this is just more of the same great Lucas Davenport and friends.
