Summary: An escape from the world of Richard Mayhew (and yours)
Review: Having spent my prerequisite 'angst' years with Gaiman as one of my favorite sources of dark and moody diversion, I was fairly sure Neverwhere would be a walk down memory lane. It was not. I matured, Gaiman's writing matured. Neverwhere is a darkly humourous book that captures the reader from the first page and doesn't let go. Richard Mayhew's transplantation into London Below and his ensueing mental vertigo is as real as what you and I would experience, and the annoyed humour of his native companions at his situation is fascinating. Get comfortable, open the book, and let it take you away. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: Magical Words from Todays Modern Shakespeare
Review: This book is a combination of future authors to come in the presense of todays world. Mr. Gaiman is one of many great author to come in the next 20 years or so. He manages to put us into a dark wolrd that he created and persuade his readers that as dangerous this world might seem to be it's better than his world, our world. The stunning resolution that take place in this book are totally unexpected and odd in a magical way. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It's the best present for the coming holidays.

Summary: A Wonderful World from a Magical Mind
Review: I found out about this book from the Sandman and Neil Gaimanwebsite which links in to Amazon.

"Neverwhere" is a wonderful world, a magical adventure under the streets of London. It's like Gaiman's Narnia.

What is so cool about Gaiman and this book is the number of things he can do. "Sandman" was a big glittering sad weird story. "Neverwhere" is a romp, a mad tongue in cheek wander under the streets of London. "Smoke and Mirrors" Gaiman's new short story collection (which I also bought from Amazon) is like a huge mad box of chocolates, with every story a different kind of thing.

I hate to think what the world must look like from inside his head. But meanwhile I'm just grateful he is out there making the world more weird and magical for the rest of us.

Summary: Incredible work by Neil Gaiman
Review: "Neverwhere" is a truly grand novel. Fast-moving, wild, witty and action-packed, it thrills from the first page to the last one. Gaiman is at his best and shows us glimpses of a greater world where everything is better, flashier and more adventorous. A must-have!

Summary: Must read if you have ever traveled on the London Tube
Review: The novel combines elements reminiscent of Alice through the looking glass and Dorothy trying to find her way home from Oz. An ordinary guy crosses into another world below London. The London subway warning "Mind the Gap" takes on a whole new meaning--there are beings that reside in the gap. The hero meets a band of wonderful characters as we travel through the midnight world below London. The ending is unexpected, but totally satisfying. Even if you do not like gothic novels, but have ever been to London, you will love this book!

Summary: First time reader of Gaiman, know I`ll be back for more.
Review: As a reader of Fantsy, I`m always looking for a new experience. I noticed a fellow employee at work reading "Neverwhere", and when I saw it listed on Amazon,Ihad to try. Boy am I glad I did! Its a great read(did it in 3 sittings),the pace just pulls you along, the characters are developed enough to be both sympathetic and scarry, and the premise is handled in a lighthearted and almost comical way. An emotional journey that I for one would be willing to endure again and again. I was physically tired by the end.

Summary: Wow. Wow. Wow.
Review: I picked this book up out of curiosity, because I knew Gaiman from his work on SimCity 2000... and it blew me away. Gaiman is a master of combining fantasy, humor, and horror all in one lump sum. What a surprise-- I thought I would be bored, but the action kept its pace throughout the entire book. I can only hope Mr. Gaiman plans on a sequel...

Summary: Good writing, but a dull version of Dungeons and Dragons
Review: I've never heard of Neil Gaiman, but I took a chance on this author becuase I was intrigued by when I read the jacket. I thought it was going to be a thriller, but to my disaapointment, it turned out to be a fantasy novel, like something out of Dungeons and Dragons. I haven't read any fantasy novels since I was a kid and I don't read them now, so that's why my review may be slanted. This book would have appealed to me more if it weren't so weird and the characters weren't founded on some sort of role playing game, which I feel the entire book was. But still even though I didn't care for it and wouldn't recommend it, Mr. Gaiman is a good writer and I won't take away from that. Three stars is my vote. By the way I find it hard to believe that this book was a national best seller. It seems like everything you buy at the bookstore these days comes attached with that label.

Summary: Gaiman is as engaging as ever w/ this slightly skewed novel
Review: Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors of all time and I was relieved to discover that his talents extend far beyond comics. Neverwhere is somewhat "Sandman-ish", but there's something new and different about this dark, offbeat story that you won't find in the Sandman. Gaiman's narrative is positively some of the best I've read, and it genuinely frustrated me to have to put the book down. Great stuff.

Granted, the book doesn't measure up to the quality, wit, or poignancy of "Good Omens," but Neverwhere is a whole different animal altogether. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any other book-lover. It's imaginative, artistic, visual, and very intelligent. Yes, there were predictable moments, but never annoyingly so. All in all, it was a great book that I do look forward to reading again.

Summary: What a wonderful surprise
Review: It's been eyars since I've read what might be called "Fantasy" fiction, and I'm still not sure why I picked up this book. But I'm glad I did. What a treat. Evocative writing, non-sterortypical characters, and a strong plot with just enough twists to keep me completely off-balance. I hope there is a sequel.
