Rating: Summary: "Loser" Review: I read the book "Loser" by Jerry Spinelli. I really liked it. One reason I liked it is because it is about a child's journey through elementary and middle school. As he gets older, he gets picked on more and more until one day in middle school. He finally gets chosen to play football. I also liked it because it was funny in some parts. For example, when Donald was at his elderly neighbor's house trying to convince that people still made snickerdoodle cookies. Or when he goes to work with his dad. I liked this book because it was sad. Everything Donald did wrong, he got made fun of for it. He was bad at almost everything from writing his name to events at Field Day at school. My favorite part was when Donald went out looking for a young neighbor girl who got lost in a blizzard. It was so courageous. He looked for seven hours! I'm not going to say if he found her or not. You can find out yourself. In this book, Spinelli very vividly described the setting. He was very specific about the alleyways, schools, and playgrounds. He went into great detail describing it. Although he didn't describe th characters very well.
Rating: Summary: Andrew's Review Review: I'm not sure if I like the book or not. There were reasons that i disliked it and reasons that I liked it. The reason that I disliked the book was because it seemed like the character was dreaming to much and those parts where very unclear. There were good things about the book to like the metaphors that the author used. The best part of the book was when the little girl, Claudia, went missing and Zinkoff wwent looking for her until 1:00 am even though she was found before 8:30. I liked this part of the book because of the metaphors that the author used in this chapter. One of the parts of the book that was most vivid to me was the characters. In the begining of the author doesn't really dicribe the characters but you can get a good picture from what the author discribes what they are doing. Like Zinkoff in the begining is anxious to go to school and wears a giraffe hat and his mother is in rush to get ready and go to work. The resolution was also very vivid and was a happy ending. Throughout the book Zinkoff is made fun of and is put down, like in 2nd grade he is made fun of during field day because he runs really slow ans isn't good at the games. Then at the end they are picking teams and he is the last one left and the captian points to him and says "Zinkoff".
Rating: Summary: Controversial BUT Awsome Review: Has anyone tried to make you feel like you didn't belong? In this book Lose Has anyone tried to make you feel like you don't belong? In the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli, a little boy is picked on at school. They make him feel like he doesn't belong. His only friends are a glass bear and a glass fox that his mother threw away because they were old and broken. But he took the animals out of the garbage and made friends with them sense he as none at school. His bedroom is his main place where he stays with his animal friends. This book by Jerry Spinelli is a must read. In this book, Jerry Spinelli expresses how the boy feels when his classmates pick on him. The author also understands how the boy feels and tries to make the readers of his book know how the boy feels too. This book also teaches when bullies pick on other human beings they learn a lesson too. Many of Jerry's books are must-reads. But this one is my favorite for many reasons. Jerry Spinelli also has a particularly great background too. He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He went to Gettysburg College and went to Hopkins University. In 1991, he won a Newbury Award for Maniac Magee in 1998. Wringer was named the Newbury Honor book. He began writing when he was 16. Rating: Summary: Stephanie at Richview Middle School Review: The story is a about a boy named Donald Zinkoff, who never really fit in. By the third grade he realized what his true name was "Loser". Donald is not very athletic ,so naturally he hates Field Day. In the races in field day,he comes in the very last place. Later on a little girl named Claudia runs away . So Zinkoff goes and looks for her through sleet, snow ,and the bitter cold. He did this for seven hours.they eventually find her and him. When he's in sixth grade, there is a basketball game. Although basketall is his favorite sport he's not very good at it and everyone knows that. Yet Bonce a very athletic boy picks him to be on his team.
Rating: Summary: Loser v.s. Stargirl Review: I didn't really enjoy Loser by Jerry Spinelli. He is a brilliant author, and the writing was quite good. But, the climax was boring, and so was the whole book. The ending? Well... Let's just say that I basically didn't enjoy this book much. But, Stargirl was the most brilliant book ever. That book made me cry. There's a book worth reading. You see, Loser is about a boy who is a loser.... bla bla bla bla bla. But, you see, the boy isn't in my opinion, that bad. He just laughed a lot and wasn't fast at racing. We were all geeks when we were little but it's a part of growing up. This book isn't great. I love Jerry Spinelli, he's a great writer. Stargirl was terrific. Loser? No.
Rating: Summary: Loser Review: The book Loser is realistic fiction. The author is Jerry Spinelli. The book is about a boy that is trying to make it through life. People call him loser because he does not understand all the things he is doing. He does not know that all the kids are calling him loser, but he thinks they are calling someone else loser. The book is talking about his life though every chapter .The boy is named Zinkoff (that's the boy's name), but most of the time he was waiting for a snow day. Day after day he is getting very selfish about getting a snow day. Once a snow day finally happened some frustrating and dangerous moments occurred. What I like about this book is how the author described Zinkoff's life when he was little. It is a book that I would recommend you reading. I think this book is brilliant. I hope if you read this book, you will like it too.
Rating: Summary: My review of loser Review: This is a book about an average boy and his travels from first through sixth grade. He's a normal normal kid just like you and me- that is until fourth grade. In fourth grade Donald Zinkoff becomes a "loser". He just the same as he was before, same incessant laugh when he hears a funny sounding word, same goofy name, same everything. His classmates are just realizing how silly this kid is. Donald may be called a loser but he doesn't let that get him down. I would recommend this book to kids ages eight-thirteen. It is contemporary realistic fiction and is a good easy read. Read this book and find out more about this silly little boy and what he does to become a hero! Allie
Rating: Summary: Everyone needs friends Review: I chose this book because in the beginning Zinkoff didn't have friends and when it got to the middle of the book he started to make friends at Monroe Middle School.I think it is very important to have friends. This book is about a boy whose name is Donald Zinkoff. He is very bad at school.Unlike normal Sixth Graders, Zinkoff loves to go to school, and even likes to make cookies for the heck of it.Whenever you played a game with him, he would always lose.Donald even wants to be a mailman like his dad.Everytime people make him laugh,he laughs for hours even though the joke is over.Donald Zinkoff is someone you wouldn't want to know. .It's a fun book to read, and it is very hilarious. You cannot stop laughing throughout the whole book. What's hilarious is that on the first day of school Donald takes off without his mom and he took his 3 foot long giraffe hat with him. For all of you who read my review, I would personally read this book or at least give it a try. It's spectacular
Rating: Summary: a very good book Review: This is a great book. It's really interesting. One english teacher told me, that it's an important book. Maybe she's right. I really recommend to read it.
Rating: Summary: My awesome book report Review: The book that I'm reviewing is Loser. Jerry Spinelli wrote it. The book is all about a kid who is a klutz and has something wrong with his stomach. On the first day of school he is so excited because it's his first day of school. His name is Zinkoff. When School ends Zinkoff is sad because he loves his school. Did I mention that he laughs at everything and pukes every ''two'' seconds. During the book Zinkoff is hunching for school so he gets up early and gets dressed himself. Suddenly after he gets dressed he bolt's to the school. In the mean time his mom and dad are frantically looking for him. The last place they looked is the school and they fnd him. The first thing he say's is mom dad look, ''I went to school all by myself.'' Then they tell him son it's a weekend. Zinkoff sobs all the way home. When Zinkoff is in fourth grade he wears his little giraffe hat to school and gets picked on. He has the meanest teacher in the world. She loves her eraser and chalkboard more than she loves her class. So they come in early and Zinkoff without knowing writes on the chalkboard and the teacher comes in and catches him writing on the chalkboard. She screams at him. Then he tries to erase it. She gets even madder then he drops the eraser and pukes all over it. If you want to know how it ends read the book.
