Summary: In Jail At Sixteen
Review: 'Monster' by Walter Dean Myers is a story about a young boy named Steve Harmon who is thought to have commited the murder of the clerk at a local drugstore. Set in a detenion center in Manhattan, 'Monster' tells the story of survival in prison and in the courtroom. It is set up like a movie script, which allows the reader to guess if Steve is innconet or guilty. I personally loved the fast paced novel which almost trasported me inside of the story. It will keep readers geussing until the last virdict. This story making you think, and you will keep thinking about it even after you close the last page. Walter Dean Myers is a grest writer and he does wonderful work. This book really does deserve 5 stars!

Summary: Nothing special
Review: This book is about a 16-year-old boy named Steve Harmon on trial for helping a robbery that ended in a murder. The whole book is based on him writing a movie and telling about jail. Its really quick of a read if you need to read a book fast. Overall its a well written book, but it gets kind of boring. Bu it was amazing how fast i read this book for school. I would only recommend the book if you need to read something fast but besides that there is no point to read it.

Summary: Awesome Book!!!
Review: If you want a book that gets inside of a 16 year-old boy's head who is being tried for a crime then this is the story for you! Myers does a great job with making believable characters, you feel like you can relate to them! Steve to me was someone that I could have met right at school. The story moves at a comfortable pace so you don't feel lost or confused or even, bored. I couldn't put this book down and I dont think that you will be able to either, I would definitely call it a page turner. The setting is so descriptive and you feel as if you are right there along with the characters in the courtroom, and you feel the feelings that were felt before, and after the crime. The best part of the story would probably be the mystery along with the development of the main character Steve. He learns so much while being in jail, and you can see how he grows as a person. The lessons he learns could never be forgotten and it shows how well Myers has developed him. If mystery, crime, or just a good young adult novel is what you are craving going along with the trial of Steve Harmon and hearing the outcome is just the thing for you, this book is unforgetable.

Summary: Review for Monster
Review: Monster by Walter Dean Myers was a very well written book. Set through the trial of 16 yr old Steve Hanson, convicted because a murder of a convinent store owner. Through the struggles of his trial Steve sets out the story in movie form. With the interesting way the plot was put and the array of characters from all backrounds we can fully understand Steve's emotions and hopes through this tough time in his life. Dialogue is like a script with the characters stories unfolding while they are on the stand. With glances to Steve's past and journal entries we are able to see and understand the depth of Steve. Very well written and imaginative.

Summary: Review of Monster by Sam
Review: I thought this book was ok. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I really dislike how the author would change from scenes in the courtroom and flashback to Steve's childhood. It made things confusing and I would often have to read things over again. I also disliked the cameras. The way a camera would zoom in and pick up various activities also took up time and made the book seem as though it took forever to read. I understand that for the plot of the book the style was almost neccessary. If you're into this type of writing I'm sure you will like it but it's not my preference. But in contrast, the author did a nice job of matching personalities to the characters. He even got the street slang down pretty well, making the characters believable.

Summary: Great Book
Review: The great story MONSTER by Walter Dean Myers is about a young man named Steve Harmon who is on trial for felony murder. The book is very well written. Myers is a great author. I absolutely loved this story.
Steve Harmon is only 16 and may have to spend the rest of his life behind bars. He says that he did nothing wrong. Not many people believe him though. He is on trial for a felony murder that took place at a local drugstore. In the book it also tells about his life before all this happened He does not want to rot behind bars. He could get 25 years to life if he is found guilty.
This book was really good. It was very exciting and always kept you wondering. The story was written very well. When I read the book it felt like I was part of the story. This story was very interesting also. Myers wrote this book so well that I never wanted to put it down. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes a good book.
As you can see MONSTER was a very interesting, well written, exciting book. It is mostly about Steve's court case and about how good his life was before all of this had happened.

Summary: Interesting- take 3
Review: Steve is a 16 year old adolescent that is in trouble. He is accused of a felony murder along with James King. Steve, King and 2 other guys were to hold up a drug store and split the cash 4 ways. The crime gets carried away. The owner pulls a gun and gets shot.

While on trial, Steve begins to write a movie about what is happening to him. (The book Monster.) He struggles trying to convince himself that he is innocent. Is he really? O'Brien, his lawyer shows no signs of believing his innocence. He wonders if the jury will.

The setting of the story switches back and forth from a Manhattan detention center and the courthouse. Steve receives support from his family while in the detention center. He wonders if his family will believe him in the end.

This story is geared toward young adolescents. The plot shows the reader that actions have consequences.

Review: First of all, I think this book would be excellent to use with middle school students, especially boys. I can not wait to use it with my students. I think it could be used with ages 11-19.
It seems as though the main character Steve Harmon made a costly decision. It is not easy growing up in the ghetto, but he seems to be a good boy based on his family and how they feel towards him. What will his bad decision cost him? You will have to read for yourself to see if he was really involved in the life changing experience. His decision to be remotely involved with the wrong guys has landed himself in jail. In order to pass the time he struggles to write the movie of his life. How will it end guilty or not guilty?
It was an excellent book; however, it takes a little while to get use to the format of how the book is written. It is written as a movie script. I think that in order to make this book fully effective Walter Dean Myers helped the main character create an escape from what awaited him by allowing him to tell his own story through all of the other characters.

Review: I must admit, if I were choosing a book to read on my own it would not have been this one. It just seems depressing from the name and the cover; however, "You can't judge a book by it's cover." I read this book for a college course in library science. The film script style kept me interesed. The setting and plot were very realistic. This book would be helpful for some teens. I will definitely include it in my library.
