Rating: Summary: This is a great book Review: This book is a great book, it has a little different writing technique and it is a little hard to get into. But once you get started you will be hooked. The book is basically about a kid that is in prison for a crime. The book is writen in movie format, which is what makes it difficult. The trial goes on and has a very interesting ending. I recommend anyone to read this fantastic book.
Rating: Summary: Great, great book. Review: Monster was really good. Although it took me only two days to read, because of the movie-type style of the book, its one of my favorites.Steve is on trial for being a part of a felony murder. The story goes back and forth between the court room stuff, written like a movie, and Steve's comments, on how much he hates prison. Monster kept me reading the whole time, I'm still suprised I didn't finish it in a day.
Rating: Summary: Not a monster Review: In this book you get caught up in Steve Harmon's horror movie. A seventeen year old boy's acount of jail, trial, and their accompaning emotions. A good idea, but a little slow at times, definately worth the read!
Rating: Summary: Monster Review: A great book read it damn you. I f you don't you are stupid. because it a good book you.
Rating: Summary: "Monster" Review: This is a very depressing book. It is a page turner and at some points it is a tounge twister. It was a good book and I reccomend it to young adults and higher.
Rating: Summary: wonderful Review: A few reviews below tell you the ending of the book, so if you want to read the entire book and play "juror", then please do not read all of the reviews. I played "Juror" as I read the book, and I was floating back and forth the entire novel...so that tells me 1 very importnat thing that the author has made his point and done so effectively. Certainly a well deserved winner of the first Prinz Award for Young Adult Fiction.
Rating: Summary: Scary, realistic, and compelling Review: This novel really makes one think about society's view of young black men, and about young black male's preception of themselves. Why do good kids get into trouble? And why did Steve Harmon? What happens to good kids when they do get put into jail and they have to be with harden criminals-who do they become? MONSTER, brings these questions to light and there are no answers. But as a young hispanic female, recommending this book to a young african-american male is hard. One teen looked at me and looked at the cover and asked me if i thought he was a monster. Of course I do not. But I wish more than anything this young man would have picked up this book because I think that it would have helped him at looking at himself with the question Steve Harmon asks himself WHO AM I?. I truly believe anyone who picks up this book will also ask themselves the same question WHO AM I? I know I did.
Rating: Summary: Much better than I thought. Review: Even though I didn't want to read yet another book about ayoung African American male in trouble with the law, I found thisstory compelling and difficult to put down. I read it quickly and wanted to discuss it with others who had read it. If I could, I would teach this novel for the purposes of not only talking about peer pressure and crime, but to explore the criminal justice system and how it impacts young African American males. This book shares similarities with other good works on the same topic: they include Sanyika Shakur's Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member, Nathan McCall's Makes Me Wanna Holler, and Joseph Marshall's Street Soldier. All of them deal with the plight of young African males growing up in the inner city.
