Rating: Summary: This will capture the reader from the first page. Review: As a seventh grade language arts teacher, I am always looking for stories that will engage my students from the first page. This story is not only intriguing, but the way it is written (script and letters) keeps the reader engaged. The emotions and experiences written by Steve Harmon, the main character, give a chilling picture of what an accused man's life is like. I highly recommend this book for someone looking to grab the reader and take him/her on a powerful journey.

Rating: Summary: Monster by Walter Dean Myers Review: The book Monster was a very interesting book. It is about a 16 year old named Steve that is on trail for the murder of a drug store clerk. He is writing about his experience in the form of a movie script and plans to go back to film school after the trial is over to make his movie. I have read some of Walter Dean Myers' other books like The Righteous Revenge of Artemis Bonner and Slam! They where both good books but I think this was the best out of all of them.
Rating: Summary: An Easy, Powerful read Review: Listen, I read this book in an afternoon. It takes you a very short period of time but still leaves you feeling mixed emotions. The story is about Steve Harmon, who is basically being charged for an accomplice to a murder. Mixed testimonies confuse you and sometimes this book can be very out of order. The story is written in screenplay format, so its almost like you're reading the script of law and order before its on, and for that reason, its kind of fun. Walter Dean Myers did an excellent job of writing this book, and its very easy to just get taken away into it. I suggest this book for anyone who wants to get a quick read out of the way or wants something to do. I'm not sure if its the kind of book that you keep getting something new out of it as you re-read it, but I liked it.
Rating: Summary: Monster! What a great book! Review: Monster is an exceptionally good book about a boy named Steve Harmon who is in trial for participating in felony murder. This book is written in a play form that Steve is writing about his trial. Sometimes this book can get a little confusing because there are so many characters and many things to try to remember, but this book has many, many great qualities. First of all, it is very addictive. I could barely put it down! There is a lot of suspense. Who's telling the truth? Is Steve guilty? Will he be punished? You keep on changing opinions about what you think is happening and what is going to happen. It also gives you a feel of the real world and how tortorous jail is. You learn to understand that the world is not perfect and that jail is not a place you would like to be going to. It certainly is interesting with Steve's personal diary entries and thoughts. The best thing to me about this book is the ending. You are in so much suspense. It also makes you think a lot about who you are. This book is truly inspirational and really makes you think about things. I definetly recommend this to teens and adults. Especially if you would like to read a book all about the truth.
Rating: Summary: This Book Rocks..........Great Insite!!! Review: I totally respect Walter Dean Myers for making this book like a movie. It was a great book to relate to, because it was so real, it was like you could put yourself in the story. There were so many characters to like Bobo, King and probably, the most important character, Steve Harmon. Also, The way Walter Dean Myers put the setting in New York. Its a great city to write a crime story in. My favorite part was really the whole book! It had great insite. The diary entries gave the reader a great perspective of what was going through Steve's mind. This book is a very well written book. Was you begin reading you can't put the book down. Its just to good to let go. Go buy and read all you want.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book Ever Review: Monater is the best book that has ever been published. This book is about a young man who is committed for a crime that he was not a part of. His name is Steve Harmon. He is taken to trial and he tells his story in the way of a play and it just goes through how he went through the trial and how his life ended up. If you've never read a book, you would want to read tis one "Monster", it's the greatest book ever.
Rating: Summary: Monster Review: The book Moster was an easy book to read. It was easierb to visualize what was happening in the book because it wasn written in a movie script formation. The book is about a trial on someone who was wrongfully accused for being in a trial. The person who was wrongfully accused (Steve Harvy) was the one writing the movie script and also keeps a notebook of how his lifetime was in jail. Steve wtote the book in a movie script because it felt like it wasn't his life that was so horrible that he was writing about. The trial is about when these guys named BoBo Evans and James King planned a "getover" to rob a drugstore. When they talked about the getover with Steve, they thought he was in with them. His part of the getover is to be a lookout (to check if anyone was in there). WHen BoBo and KIng were robbing the store's money the drungstore owner was murdered by King. The whole trial had a lot of witnesses that claimed they saw Steve at the store but Steve said he was no where near the store at that time. You'll never know the story because it won't tell you the straight story.
Rating: Summary: Through the eyes of Steve Harmon Review: The story begins when two young African American men are charged with the murder of 55-year-old convenient storeowner, Alguinaldo Nesbitt during a botched robbery. Steve Harmon, a positive young man, and James King the neighborhood thug are labeled as MONSTERS, in the eyes of the prosecution. While in the detention center Steve is allowed to keep a journal that he writes all of his experiences down during his trial. Steve struggles with the fact that he is facing felony murder at the age of sixteen. The prosecution brings up the fact that Steve chose to hang with the wrong crowd and was often seen with Mr. King. Also they think even though Steve was the lookout man for King, that he is equally guilty for the slaying of the slaying of Mr. Nesbitt. The prosecution calls many people who were at the scene of the crime. Many of the people's testimony were insufficient, and did not match up with the others who testified. Is Steve guilty? Is it just that Steve was in the wrong place at the wrong time? I would definitely recommend this book to adults and young adults because it tells the "true life" that we live. This book does not focus on the glamour of life, but the hardships that everyday people face. I would also recommend this book because of it's unique movie script, and journal writings that make up the book. The journal that Steve kept during the trial allows you to see through the eyes of Steve Harmon.
