Summary: Monster
Review: Luis G.
I read the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers. The story is about a 16-year-old boy, Steve Harmon, on trial for felony murder. Steve, who wished that experience were only a movie, writes the story in a movie script format. There only needs to be enough evidence to say he was at the scene of the crime and participated in the drug store robbery, regardless of whether or not he pulled the trigger on Mr. Nesbitt, the person killed. If so, he might spend the rest of his life behind bars. Steve is the only dynamic character in the story; when the movie begins, he is a simple 16-year-old boy who had only seen the world through his somewhat happy life. Towards the end he realizes not all people in this life are decent, or anywhere close to decent human being, but rather there is a mix of good and bad living amongst each other. Steve's movie contains flashbacks that sometimes leave the reader wondering of their significance to the story. In them we see a Steve Harmon prior to him being in jail. We see him hanging out with his friends and family. Readers are able to relate with Steve regardless of whether or not they have experience a jail term. Walter Myers does an excellent job of characterization especially in those flashbacks, because Steve seems so much like a real. Because you are able to relate with Steve you begin to feel sympathy for him just because of the awful place he is at. Myers's imagery of the jail is excellent. You realize the brutality and the perverse minds of some inmates, and also the depressed state Steve is in. as a consequence, you begin to feel sorry for him and wish he be found not guilty. This book is on of a kind because you observe the brutal side of jail through the mind of a 16-year-old boy. I think that all teens might want to consider reading this book, and I also think they are the ideal audience.

Summary: Is he a monster or just a teenager on trial?
Review: Monster
Monster was written by Walter Deans Myers. The book is about a 16-year-old boy named Steve Harmen who is on trial for being a lookout in a felony murder. The story told from the main character's point of view, Steve Harmen, takes place mostly inside the courtroom but some of it is in jail and some is done with flashbacks. Steve and another boy named James King are in trial. James is being charged with the actual killing of the storeowner.
People thirteen years and older would enjoy this book, because it is very interesting but still has a few parts that younger kids may not understand. The book is great because it gives the reader insight into what jail is like and it's not pretty from the sound of it. For example Steve describes night as being the best time to cry because no one can hear you over the sounds of someone getting beaten up and yelling for help. This kind of description keeps the reader wanting to read.
I can relate to this story because Steve is sixteen, my age, and I wouldn't want to go to jail; I would go insane inside there. It's kind of depressing or a little sad that Steve is being charged with felony murder, but he was actually only the lookout. Also thoughout reading the book, the reader starts to feel like Steve is his or her friend and most people wouldn't want their best friend going off to jail.
On a scale from one to ten, I would rate this book a ten mostly because it keeps the reader guessing until the end about whether Steve and James are guilty. It is 281 pages of questionable witnesses and facts leaving the reader to come up with his or her own verdict while waiting for the real one to be giving by the jury. Remember Steve is a teenager, black, and on trial for felony murder. The odds are against him.

Summary: Top Twenty
Review: Monster was an outstanding book, an uncanny message about the consquences of guilty by association written in disguise as a playwrite. So much emotion is piled into each page that even as the character is not fully descripted readers are compelled to reach out for this unfortunate teen as he is put through trial after trial for a crime he did not commit. One is taken into the main character-16 year old Steve Harmon- while he undergoes and inhabits a world fit for men. Creatively presented and geniously compounded, this novel is a must for all American teenagers and should be among the greatest ever for Children's Literature.

Review: I am a fifth grade student at Waldron Mercy Academy (BNP).

Out of all the page-turners I've read, "Monster" has been the absolute best. If you like the "Law and Order" series on television, or crime mysteries, then you've come to the right book review friend... As you might not expect, "Monster" is not about monsters, or ghosts or anything that you hear around campfires that make you pee yourself. No, this book is about a trial against a teenager accused of being the lookout in a robbery. The boy writes the story like a play. For example, if someone with the last name McHarris spoke, it would look like this: McHarris: "Do you know where the library is?" While he awaits his trial he meets shady characters and mobsters. Even if he is not accused, will he make it back alive to see his family?

Review: ...I didn't really like this book. One of the main reasons was probably because it was like in a movie text. I didn't really understand it. Two main reasons that I started reading this book is because of the cover of the book and it had finger prints on it and that reminds me of criminals. I love reading books about criminals. And I guess u already know this is about criminals well sort of. Because Steve was getting some stuff in a food store and his friends said they would buy it for them so when they came out they said they paid for and they really didn't so he got put in jail for it. So he writes what happens in the form of a movie. So if you like criminal books, and like it in movie text, you will like this book.

Summary: Makes You Belive You Are Really There!!
Review: The Book MONSTER us a very good book. It is writtin out in a movie script to make you think you are really there! It has all the camera angles and everything! It is about a guy named Steve Harmon who is accused of being involved in a robbery. It has some sections writtin as a journal that is made by the main charechter Steve Harmon. There are several good things I liked and disliked about this book.
For one i liked how the book was writin out as a movie script and not just a regular book. It was easier to read and understand, like when someone was talking or doing something it clearly said who was doing it and what they were doing.
Another thing I liked is that it was like Steve Harmon was writing it himself. You could really relate to this book! It made you fell as if you where expiriancing it for yourself, Like a movie.
The Thing i disliked is that it really didnt explain enough about his family and what he was like. It also didnt tell about Before he was accused and after the case was over.
