Rating: Summary: GREAT WRITING DAVE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK Review: THROUGH READING THIS BOOK, A MAN NAMED DAVE, I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH. THAT A CHILD WHO WAS ABUSED IN ANY WAY CAN STILL LIVE A GREAT LIFE. THIS STORY, IM SURE HAS TOUCHED MANY LIVES AND HAS BEEN A ROLE MODEL FOR CHILDREN JUST LIKE DAVE. I WANT TO THANK DAVID PELZER FOR SHARING HIS LIFE WITH THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE READ HIS STORIES. I NEVER WANTED TO PUT ANY OF HIS BOOKS DOWN, I JUST WANTED TO KEEP ON READING. I FINISHED THE SERIES IN PROBABLY ABOUT 5 DAYS.THEY WERE ALL WELL WRITTEN, AND I NEVER GOT BORED WITH THEM. NICE JOB DAVE!
Rating: Summary: Not riveting but neccessary Review: It took me weeks to read A Man Named Dave as compared to the one or two day reads of his previous works. The story is not as riveting as his childhood accounts, but I do feel it is neccessary reading for those of us who read the earlier two titles. In this book we witness the ongoing nature of the damage Dave suffered at the hands of his abusive mother and passive father. When a child's trust is broken by those he depends upon, all future relationships in his life are affected. I think it was merciful that Dave's parents died early enough in his life that he could put his past to rest and go on with living. Relationships that are so complex and conflicted as were his with his parents are usually not resolvable until the death of the parties. Dave's "internal locus" is my favorite lesson in the book. His resistance to the role of victim and his continuous decisions to accept responsibility for his life and overcome his problems inspire me. Having raised an adopted son of my own who came to us at age eight having been abused and neglected in every conceivable way, Dave's story gives me hope that someday my son may overcome his tragic distrust and dysfunction in life.
Rating: Summary: ALL 3 TITLES Review: AFTER READING THE BOOKS AND SEEING DAVID RECENTLY ON T.V I AMIN TOTAL ADMIRATION FOR HIM.I FOUND HIS WEB PAGE VERY INFORMATIVE. ITIS WELL WORTH VISITING TO UNDERSTAND DAVID EVEN MORE
Rating: Summary: Way to go, Dave! Review: I just finished A Man Named Dave this morning. I stayed up all night reading it, I could not put it down.I have also read the other 2 books in the series. This book is extremely well-written. You feel like you are really there with Dave. I was in awe at the dialogue... it was so real, not like the normal stuff you see on TV or in the movies. One of the things that struck me the most was when he said this to Stephen, his son.. "Just like in baseball: you'll get a few hits, but most likely, you'll strike out more than you get on base. But don't quit. Find your focus, relax, take a deep breath, and give it a good swing." Dave, please continue to keep us updated on your life. We can all learn so much from you. No one deserves to be treated as you were. You were not at fault for what happened. You broke the cycle of abuse... not only for yourself, but I am sure for many others as well. You are a hero - just like Superman.
Rating: Summary: Such an inspiring read! Thank you David Review: This book was magnificent. My copies of David's books are soaked through with tears. Just the pure courage and strife of that innocent little child David once was makes this book worthy of the highest esteem. Seeing those tragic events through the eyes of a child has helped me to deal with my own abusive past, and has turned me on to Fostering children. I never thought a child could have it so bad, so disgustingly horrid. This book is a must read for just about any person interested in fostering childern, or inspiration in any other field. Nothing has ever given me more joy then knowing that people, like myself can help the children who David and I, myself use to be. Keep on growing David, your work is beautiful.
Rating: Summary: My heart goes out to Dave Pelzer Review: My heart goes out to Dave Pelzer. I admire him so much! At first I just didn't understand why he didn't hate his mother, but eventually realized he is a better person for not. I am so sorry he had to go through it all and no one was there to help. I hope some day I am able to see him on a talk show. I hope too some day they can make a movie on Dave's books. God Bless you Dave Pelzer!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Reading Review: The only word that comes to mind is "UNBELIEVABLE". I promise you that after reading the 3 books in this series you will probably pick them up and start all over again. Do you know of anyone that hasn't read these books? Tell them about the books and they'll thank you for it. This should be required reading for everyone. Way to go Dave!
Rating: Summary: The trilogy is complete Review: I discovered the David Pelzer books after seeing him on the Montel Williams show. I was so horrified by his story. . . and my heart went out to A Child Called It. And I bought the book. I've read all three. David's survival is truly a triumph. Most people would not have continued to live, let alone rise above the problems, let alone be able to talk about them. David's tales are comparable to the horror stories of the Holocaust - except that the villain in his stories was someone who was supposed to love him. I do wish that I had found out exactly WHAT had triggered David's mother. If the only stimulation for her actions was alcohol, then this series may be the most powerful lesson in the world against liquor. I appreciate David's sharing his story with us. It's one more reason to be grateful every day.
Rating: Summary: Reader Rita Review: Dave Pelzer is an outstanding individual. I think that even his will to live as a child is so inspiring. Be sure to read the first 2 books before reading A Man Named Dave. You won't regret reading this trilogy.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: "A Child Called IT" and the "Lost Boy" were the best books I have ever read. It is amazing that Dave is as strong as he is today after going through his mother's sick games. I wish I could meet Dave in person and thank him for everything. After reading I wanted to give him a big hug and wipe my eyes. I stay up reading every word of the book and can't seem to put it down to sleep. Thanks Dave! I am so prowd of you!
