Rating: Summary: This Treasure was Hard to Measure Review: The beginning of the book immediately caught me because it went right into the story without explaining anything, which made me want to read and find out. I think that it one of Cusslers main strong points is making you want to read more and that makes it a good book.
The first pages of the book talk about Romans and a small portion of a background about the city of Alexandria. To understand the rest of the book you must read this, it was very wise for Clive to incorporate that into the beginning of the story.
This book is also interesting because it alternates between the government in one chapter and Dirk Pitt in the other, so you have to read one whole chapter that is almost irrelevant to the other in order to find out what happens in the one chapter.
The main character in this story is of course Dirk Pitt, a handsome, smart, witty, and caring man who is good with the ladies. For instance when Dirk and his team of archaeologists rescue people from a freezing plane, Pitt asks two of them if they would have dinner with him. Of course he didn't ask them in front of each other, but they would both eventually have dinner.
Then there is Lily, she was found on the frozen plane, and now helps Dirk and his colleague with there studies. Dirk eventually falls in love with her, but you will have to read the whole thing.
Then there is Giordino, who is Dirks coworker in the archaeological study on the ship Polar Explorer.
I think you might be able to predict the end of the story, but not up to the level that Cussler has made it, only because it is your average case of good versus evil.
I thought it was a very good book, seeing as how I don't like most other books.
So read the book and see what you think.
(This was definately a treasure that was hard to measure.)
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: After having read a half dozen Cussler books, his now familier writing style is addicting. It is a compelling blend of intrigue and softened reality that makes for easy reading in airports, and on the road. Never drippy, and never too harsh. You will probably like it.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: Although this is not the best Cussler novel I have read, it is still very good. I really enjoyed the historical part of it and thought it the plot was pretty clever. I liked how the hid the cruise ship and the ending was pretty cool. But, it could have been better. I dont know how it could've been better. I just know it had great potential but didn't fully fill that potential. Anyway, it's still a great book.

Rating: Summary: Wow-and then some Review: Being the first cussler book I read, and reading it after reading entire Jack Ryan collection by Clancy, I was skeptical. This book was something that blew my mind. I enjoyed reading it, and the humor that was inserted was something that gave the book a really light touch. The detail was riveting, and the way the story unfolds with such realism was a great refresher for me. Cussler's books, a cross between Clancy's political aspects and James bond's espiuonage really won me over. I am now on my second, flood tide, and am 3/4 the way through it in just over a day. This book is great.
Rating: Summary: Great read Review: Clive and Dirk at their best. Great escapist fun. It's a E ride in NUMA land. Forget work for awhile and have some fun.
Rating: Summary: AGAIN: The Super Invicible, Adventure Magnet: Dirk Pitt Review: Dear reader, you are well warned: If you are on vacation and you see Dirk Pitt... get the heck out of the man's way! Something spectacular is about to happen and he will most certainly find himself involved. Here we go again... Same, same, same, same... Cussler starts off with an historical perspective to a mystery (the lost library of Alexandria), brings us to present day with the almighty Dirk Pitt (a plane crash and ancient ship wreck in the arctic). Somehow Pitt falls face first into something that is about to be the destruction of everything we know if he doesn't race in by superhuman means and save the planet from certain destruction. Did this guy learn to write books after memorizing 1930's comic books or Doc Savage novels? The action and adventure keep you reading, as usual. As far as adventure and storyline go, this may be one of the more entertaining Cussler selections, but dear reader may find as I have that with invincible characters and action such as these, it is difficult to read one Cussler book right after another. If you can't stomach much more, go and read about ten really horrible books and then pick up a Cussler novel. It will seem like the best thing you've read in a long time. Any person's opinion of a story is only a reflection of what they have already or recently experienced.
Rating: Summary: Fans of James Bond and Indiana Jones will love this book Review: Having recently started reading Dirk Pitt and his Numa Gang, I read this book for the first time and it introduced me to Dirk Pitt and his friends at Numa. As I have read this book twice already I have enjoyed every aspect of it especially with a new twist to fans of Indiana Jones and James Bond. Clive Cussler has really caught my attention after reading his novel Treasure which discusses Dirk Pitt and Numa's hunt for the Lost Library of Alexandria. In it Clive Cussler catches all us fans of modern day adventure and action which involves the fight of counter-terrorism with one of the main villains being kinda like the terrorist assasin known as the Jackal. In the way the James Bond and Indiana Jones brought the thrill of Saturday Movies back Cussler keeps the reader moving and continually wanting to read more of his book. I especially love the way Cussler brings the final showdown of this book in an unexpecting area where people would not find the legendary Library of Alexandria. Cussler even adds the famous James Bond comical wit and finesse in his book between Dirk Pitt and his partner in crime Al Giordino and the other characters within this book. It always make you laugh and smile once the finesse and wit are done throughout the book. At times when the story can be serious in his writing. Treasure has really opened my enjoyment and interests in Clive Cussler and his hero Dirk Pitt and Numa gang. To the new reader of this book it will make you enjoy Clive Cussler as one of our best action adventure writers in the 20th and 21st Century. Thanks so much Clive for the enjoyment of reading your hero and his exploits.
Rating: Summary: Bad premise, bad writing! Review: How does this man continue to sell books? I was given this book by a friend of mine who was amazed that I had never heard of the great Dirk Pit. After reading the book I, in turn, was amazed that an adult could read this stuff and actually admit that he/she liked it. If this is the type of 'literature' that people are buying, then I'm happy to say that I am no longer in the mainstream of best-seller buyers (although I don't recall Clive Cussler's name being associated with any so-called Best-Seller lists)
