Rating: Summary: Absolutely breathtaking... Review: I read this book straight through in one sitting, because I simply couldn't put it down. It was quite simply one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read - I place it in the ranks of Pullman's His Dark Materials. Its deceptively simple writing style builds a vivid world around you as you read, and hurtles you headlong into the story - and promptly embeds the characters inextricably in your heart. The main character, Lina, is as beguiling as they come - spirited, determined, and far, far too nosy. Her friend Doon is adorably scowly and moody, her grandmother delightfully batty, and the mayor of the town so vividly painted that by the time he'd finished his third sentence he stood fully formed in my mind. Although characters aren't this book's only strength... The plot played out almost like a song, lyrical and swaying, full of the stuff of life. I was filled with humor, curiosity, terror and joy in rapid succession, only to start the cycle again at the next turn of the page - and by the end of the book I must confess I was a bit misty eyed. And, without spoiling anything, I'll say that the last couple of paragraphs filled me with bubbling anticipation, and now I think I'll explode if I don't find out what happens soon! Come on, Duprau, give us the next book!
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was about a dark city whose citizens seem to be unaware that the city is running out of supplies. The people have to get out of the city at a certain year, but the instructions on how to leave got misplaced, and no one knew they existed. The book was very good, it was interesting to hear about a society that does not have alot of stuff that we do today. Sometimes the book would go a little bit to fast. If the auther had slowed down and described it more that would have helped people understand the city and the story. But it was a fun adventure and i can't wait untill the sequel comes out!
Rating: Summary: Excellent!!! Review: I thought this book was really good. COmpared to other books i've read its not superb but i am comparing it to some really good books. I think if you like books like The Thief Lord and The bartimeus Triligy: The Amulet of Samarkand then you will enjoy this book. It's a good book to take on Vacation and have a quick read. I'd truly recommend this book to people who enjoy that short and sweet read!

Rating: Summary: Very, very interesting! Review: My little sister bought this boko through the book order from school. It had a really interesting cover, so I thought I'd try reading it. I expected it to be a very typical pre-teen book, with simple writing and a cookie cutter plot. While the writing was a little too simple for me, I thought the story-line was amazing. This book had the most original plot that I've read in years, it seems all new books that come out are just more of the same but this one was definitly unique. I also love conspiracys and the whole "government is evil" deal, so this definitly suited my needs. But I'd definitly say pick up this book, it will give you a lot to think about!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ FOR GRADES 5 AND UP Review: MY SON COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. I PICKED IT UP AND READ IT UNTIL I WAS DONE. ITS NOT A BIG BOOK LIKE HARRY POTTER BUT AN AWESOME BOOK THAT A CHILD CAN READ THROUGH AND THOROUGHLY ENJOY. ITS ALOT OF FUN! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL.

Rating: Summary: The City of Ember Review: The City of Ember is a easy book to get stuck in. Jeanne DuPrau illustrates the feelings of her charecters so well you start to feel like your actually there! I read this book in 1 day, anxious to find out if Doon and Lina would ever find the "egress" from Ember. I read plenty of books, and this book is one of my favorites. The City of Ember is a great book. I reccomend it to anyone willing of a day with nothing but reading.(Ages 9+)
Rating: Summary: Excellent addition to any library! Review: The City of Ember is a great fantasy story, yet isn't too far out of the realm of possibility, particularly when considering the possibility of some sort of global disaster. This book centers on a city of people who live far beneath the ground due to some disaster over 200 years earlier. The current inhabitants know nothing of the world above them. And as their electricity supplied by the original "builders" begins to fail, they face an uncertain future. What lies beyond their city? What will happen if the lights go out and never, ever come back on? The story not only is a great escape for the reader, but it also delves into the basics of human nature--the need for survival, fear of the unknown, the pursuit of happiness, and much more. This book is a "keeper."
