Rating: Summary: Better mystery than romance! Review: This book is a fast read and a relatively good mystery. I have read several of Sandra Brown's romantic-suspense novels and have become a fan of this genre. The story line moves along quickly and has similarities to a made for TV movie. Since Sandra usually draws me in quickly and makes me really like and empathize with the main characters, this novel disappointed in that aspect. I had a little trouble believing the "love at first sight" element of this book. For me, the characters were not well enough developed to find their strong emotional ties believable after only a few brief encounters. It is obvious that Hammond and Alex were both very conflicted, but how did they fall in love when they barely knew each other - lust yes, but love? ...And for being a big city prosecutor, Hammond sure seemed to signal his emotions frequently - maybe that was a fraility in his otherwise "alpha male" persona! The other discrepancy that I couldn't understand was what kept Hammond in a prior one year relationship with the other female character in this book (a truly obnoxious person) when Alex was the complete opposite. The ending was a surprise, which is good because I thought I had it figured out. Not a bad read, but Witness and French Silk are better.
Rating: Summary: Greed, Lust, Sex, Law, Politics, & Power-in the South. Review: This tale of greed, sex, lust, law, politics, and power in the South, features Hammond Cross, attorney, his investigation of a murder of one Lute Pettijohn, and the entanglements (legal and romantic) that follow. There's no shortage of suspects in this fairly well paced thriller. (Exclusive is also good by this author.) I see Matthew McConaughey (I'm not sure why) featuring in a movie version of this (if made). Anyway, as Cross looks into the murder, his invovlement with two women comes into play (one is a suspect). Also, his father (a rather pretentious man, to say the least) in his arrogance almost hopes to see his son "fall" from his standing in the community. It has all of the makings of a fine film, if (as I always say) handled correctly. May be a cut above most "romantic" books. Well read by Dylan Baker (with just the right amount of "southern" accent, so as not to make the characters "caricatures" of southerners).
Rating: Summary: Took a while to get into it Review: This book was a little slow paced for me. It took me a while to get into it and honestly by the end, I was glad I had made it through. Probably won't go and fetch any more of Sandra Brown's books for a while. This was my first read by this author.
Rating: Summary: Great Whodunit Review: I thought this was a great book and it held my interest to the very end. Just goes to prove once more that indiscriminate sex and lies weave a tangled web that will snare you.
