Rating: Summary: Not bad!! Review: This book is awesome, then tapers off, then ends phenomenally!! If you get through the boring parts, this is the perfect action book!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely stunning Review: This is definitely the best book I've ever read. The first time I read it I finished it in 3 1/2 days. Not only that, but I have probably read it 15 to 20 additional times. Clancy's attention to detail and brilliant characterization add to an already gripping plot. With it's shortness (at least relative to his other books), it is an excellent book for someone who has never read any Tom Clancy before, as well as the Clancy veteran. Well worth your time.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: This political thriller was the best I've read. I even am using it for my intensive research project. I plan to read more of Clancy's novels in hopes that they are as interesting as this one.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books, i have ever read Review: I am 13 years old, and i have been a reading champion for years. Also, I am a very fast reader, and this is one of the best. This is the first Tom Clancy I am reading, and it rocks. I read in 2 and 1/2 days. The next book on my list is Red Storm Rising.
Rating: Summary: Another "10" for "Red October" Review: The truth is that "every book is better than the movie". In this case the movie was an exceptional piece of cinema from every aspect, probably the best I have every seen. Imagine what the book would be if the first sentence is true. A Clancy "hard-core" fan.
Rating: Summary: 1984 it isn't. Jack Ryan, meet Marko Ramius Review: 1984 it isn't. Jack Ryan, meet Marko Ramius. With The Hunt for Red October, Tom Clancy launched a new literary genre, the technothriller. This, Tom Clancy's first novel, introduces Jack Ryan and his family. They don't appear until the second day. On the first day, Captain First Rank, (Commander), in our navy, Marko Ramius, the half- Russian, half-Lithuanian commander of the Soviet missile boat Red October, commits an act of baratry by hijacking his submarine and in killing his zampolit, Captain Second Rank, (Lieutenant Commander),Ivan Putin; he makes it look like an accident by splashing tea around his body. The Soviet and U.S. navies begin a search for the submarine which was supposed to be at its station and participating in war games. One of Ramius students fires a torpedo at the Red October as the Americans, led by Jack Ryan, Admiral James Greer, Bartolomeo Mancuso, and Sonarman Jones, try to bring Ramius in with the help of the British. A Soviet sub breaks up and sinks when its nuclear reactor explodes, exposing the rest of the crew to a deadly dose of radiation. The sole survivor, the cook, is rescued and operated on. In the final, climactic scene, Ryan and the Red October's cook, a GRU agent, fight it out in like a couple of gunslingers in the Old West at High Noon, in the Red October's missile bay. The GRU agent's killed and Ryan receives a flesh wound. On the flight back to London, he falls asleep on a plane for the first time. Blair Colquhoun @cybertours.com
Rating: Summary: An Under Raps Sea Adventure Review: The Book was wonderfull and very precice to the tiniest details. The Battle with the cook was breath taking. Ramius was very powerful and everything was technical to the paint on the tip of a fighter plane. Tom Clancy made his first the best, the first is always better than the sequals, but you have to remember the sequals were very good, so you can only imagine how good this is!! Even the Russian millitary tactics were precice to how they march and eat. The Americon tactics were very precice too, and even the security at Langley, the White House, and the Kremlin was correct and even the parking security was explained to the very last detail.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling, One Of The Best Books I've Ever Read Review: Loved the book, you have got to read it, it's really exciting.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Simply amazing!!! I saw the movie first but details and emotions were bigger reading this book!!! Tom Clancy belongs to my library with many other titles, too... Thank you for sharing with us some secrets so well hidden....
Rating: Summary: Thriller, gripping stuff Review: Absolutely spellbound! Especially the tense actions at sea between Red October and USS Dallas! Wonderful, well written book. MORE Jack Ryan series, please. Why not consider a TV series based loosely on CIA Analyst Jack Ryan and the espionage world????? All in all, a great book to read. Hard to put down! Believe me!
