Summary: Very Exciting Novel
Review: I have read this novel and also i have seen the movies, it really made amaze on how Clancy describe the situation on board the Red October, the plot also very exciting, and tell on both side of view ( between the Ruskies and the American)

Summary: Every Reson Calny is critically acclaimed is in this book
Review: One of the best books i have read, the Hunt for Red October had me hooked from the get-go, and it never let up. Intensely entertaining, skillfully crafted, this is a powerful book that i am sure i will reread many times. Check out the movie too - its a different story, but its still fun.

Summary: One of his best.
Review: This was his best book after Debt of Honor. The plot was great. If you like the millitary or navy you must read this.

Summary: Exceeds expectations
Review: I am reading this book for the second time--it's the best of its genre. I won't rehash all the good things everyone says about it. I'll just warn that Clancy spins a great story but he is not a literary writer. You don't notice it much with this book but he seems to go downhill in subsequent novels. If you loved this book, stop. I've read most of his others and have never come close to the enjoyment I got from Red October. Dialog is trite and contrived; he is at his lowest when trying to do character development and depict emotion.

Summary: Clancy at his rawest, simplest, and almost his best.
Review: This book reads like the typical Clancy, but it's shorter, not as intricate, and that makes it even the quicker, more shallow, but entertaining plot. A sure must read!

Summary: I loved the film, but...
Review: There is only one film that I can watch at any time, no matter, what my mood, and that film is The Hunt for Red October. The book is even better.

What I really love about it is that it doesn't ignore the rest of the world. A lot of books and writers would simply concentrate on the US Navy, but the hero spends a lot of his time on board a Royal Navy carrier, and one of the characters goes out of his way to mention the Royal Navy's submarine force. This really improved things for me.

As well as this, the book was well written, superbly detailed, with realistic characters and a gripping plot. I'd most definitely recommend it as a first Clancy.

Summary: The Best of the Genre
Review: The first time I read this book, I read the entire second half in one sitting. I could not put it down. When I finished the last page, I immediately started reading it over again. This is the best of the techo-thriller genre and really got the whole thing going for so many other authors. (By the way, when you read it over again, you find a clue to the identity of the Kremlin mole before you actually learn of the mole's existence.)

Summary: An Excellent Thriller From Clancy
Review: This book is very believable and it is much better edited than Clancy's later books! I find this book's clear and concise (relatively) wording a pleasure to read. The story and its plot is superb, and everything is very exciting. In my opinion this one and Red Storm Rising are the best from Clancy. If you want to read a Clancy (techo-thriller) book and have not read this one, it is highly recommended.

Summary: Still superb!
Review: I first read this book in 1986 in my teenage years and would NOT put it down, I was up for most of the night! And even today, it still had me mesmerised in a big way. I`ve read nearly all of Tom Clancy`s books now, including the variable Op-Center series, and this one is a classic. Excellent character studies and superb military action sequences make this a MUST READ. I particularly enjoyed the use of HMS Invincible(one of my favourite ships, on duty in the Gulf!) and the Royal Navy, being a proud Brit and military fan myself! I`ve seen the movie, and although myself and my wife(who`s not a manic military brat like I am) loved the film, I preferred the book. In my opinion, a good first-time Clancy read for anyone who hasn`t read his superb books before.

Summary: Good book
Review:

Red October is a very good book. The whole thing is frighteningly plausible. One of Clancy's best. Why a 9? There is a lot of bad language. Other than that, this is a first-rate thriller. Extremely realistic.
