Summary: The Hunt for Red October
Review: If you are a person that is looking for an adventure. Someone that is looking to get lost in a book. Then you should read The Hunt for Red October. It is a suspenseful, adventure filled, mysterious ride that will leave you on the edge of your seat at every turn of a page.

I have read the book and it took me in so quickly that I couldn't put it down. Tom Clancy is an excellent author that captures the reader in the moment of the scene and almost lets them experience it for themselves. The characters are so finely detailed that you think that you have known them all your life. It is just amazing how Clancy does it and is able to do it throughout the book. This is a suspenseful adventure that keeps you thinking. Basically, this book was wonderful, and so was the movie. Clancy's technical information was amazing. He must have spent numerous hours researching for this book.

I have been reading a John Grisham book but that doesn't even come close to Clancy and his brilliance. Clancy writes with such restriction but is so free at the same time. He really knows how to build up to a fight scene or major conflict. If I had to suggest an author it would definitely have to be Clancy but second it would be Grisham. His plot is clever, with a good plot and characters. Check this book out, it is a great pick.

Summary: Only reading it in a submarine would be more thrilling . . .
Review: Another great Clancy novel! Soviet Sub Captain Marko Ramius defects with his new submarine, the Red October, capable of launching 26 nuclear missiles but 500 miles off the Eastern Seabord of the US and be undetectable in getting there! As the Soviet and American Navies try to sink him, and as tensions fly between the White House and the Kremlin, lone CIA analyst Jack Ryan must race against time to stop a US/Soviet conflict while at the same time get Ramius and his sub to US shores.

Summary: The Beginning of a Great Ride
Review: The first Clancy book I ever read, as college student in 1989 with the Cold War was mercifully winding down, and one year before the movie was released. I bought it as a lark, thanks to its back cover which promised "one of the greatest races in naval history" - no idle boast. Needless to say, his other books soon landed on my shelf. This is the proverbial stay-up-late-for-one-more-chapter book. If you haven't seen the movie yet, do yourself a favor and read the book first; you'll be glad you did.

Summary: Very Interesting
Review: I thought that The Hunt for Red October was an absolutely amazing book. The technical detail is extremely good, what with the military technology and all, and one can immediately tell that Clancy did huge amounts of research for this book. Also, just to show you how good the book is, I never thought reading about submarines would be all that interesting. This book not only kept my attention, but my whole view on submarines has changed. Basically, this book was wonderfull, and so was the movie.

Summary: Okay, but pretty slow
Review: I read the book for school. I like reading a book slowly, so I was fairly rushed with this one. It moves very slowly and technical, irrelevant information is also included.

Summary: -A GOOD, CAPTIVATING BOOK-
Review: The Hunt For Red October was a book that really kept my attention and was interesting. The few times where the book was slow, it was countered by the thrilling war games. Tom Clancy is one of my favorite authors of all time and I rank this book fairly high among his other books. His technical information was amazing. Clancy must have spent numerous hours reasearching for this book. This book was very well written and I would recommend it to almost everyone.

Summary: Best Audio Book Out there
Review: I am an avid Audio Book listener. I check out quite a few from the library on a regular basis. The Brilliance Co. edition of this book is the Best book on tape ever...bar none. The story is great on its own, but Mr Charles' voice makes it even better. I liked it so much I bought the set and pull it out to listen to it again and again. Get this Tape

Summary: Realistic and Fast-Paced
Review: I thought this was a very good book. It was a suspensful book, with a good plot and characters. 1-It had all the things a book should have, including un-boring chapters. 2-It had great characters, which were well thought out. 3-All in all, it was an excellent book.

Summary: Later books are better
Review: Personally, I thought this book was pretty good, but I had read The Sum of All Fears before it, and that book is so much more intense than The Hunt for Red October. If you liked The Hunt for Red October, you gotta read some of the later books. If you didn't like Hunt for Red October, and don't mind a little techno-talk, get The Sum of All Fears. You'll be glad you did!

Summary: I don't understand the popularity of this book
Review: This is Clancy's first book, and it shows. He writes like someone who has never written before. His plot is clever, yet his writing is cluttered and slow. I felt like I was trying to read the instructions to program my VCR. It was slowed down by his constant acronyms (what do you think ASTDC stands for?) and technical language. I was so excited to read this book because of Clancy's reputation, yet now I will never read another one. A shame.
