Summary: I'll Give Him a Chance
Review: After reading this book, I have changed my outlook to a more positive perception of the Bush family. Thankyou, Mr. ex-President.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great insight into the life and times of a great american
Review: I loved this book and I thought that his closing letter to his children about a man happily growing old was a classic. I also loved his letter to Tiger Woods among others. One of Bush's letters that's published was written to someone that I know personally and it was really interesting to read. Highly reccomended as it is light reading and really puts the reader into the mind of one of our recent Presidents.

Summary: There's something fishy about this sushi --- huuuarrrgh!
Review: The decency, compassion, humour, whimsicality, love of family, love of country, and ultra-endearing self-deprecation of George Herbert Walker Bush make this book a very gladdening read, indeed.

We miss the 41st President, and wish him well.

Addenda : Especial favorites among these epistles include his gracious, measured, moderate letter to Cardinal Law at the outbreak of hostilities during the Gulf War; a letter to a relative poking blunt fun at himself over his, uhm, somewhat inglorious dinner with the Japanese Prime Minister; and a letter where he recalls a lunch at his uncle's gentlemen's club, and a curious tidbit about one of the member's peculiar showering habits ...

Bush 41 shows himself to be so beautifully down-to-earth and wonderfully human in these letters, that it reinforces this reviewer's regret over never having given him a vote. Alas!

Summary: Marvelous!
Review: What a wonderful book! It really shows the true man President Bush is! He is thoughtful, kind and a just plain good guy! I loved this format...letters and notes - it is a refreshing change from a "normal" autobiography! It is a great way to see how someone "thinks" when you can read their correspondence to others! A fun read!

Summary: All The Best is the best of Bush
Review: A very ordinary fellow, American through & through with the love of his life at his side, his share of sorrows & joys, bad health & good, everyday life & unusual drama. This former president's collection of letters, diary entries & memos with his accompanying commentary gives us a glimpse of one of America's most private public figures. Perhaps because George Bush has preserved his privacy so very well, it is astonishing to realize that this former congressman; Ambassador to the United Nations; U.S Liaison Officer in the People's Republic of China; CIA Director; Vice-President & President has been in the hub of politics for decades & has been one of the quietest, least headlined player before the unforgiving glare of the press. The Glossary of Names reads like a Who's Who on the global scene for the second half of the last century. Absorbing, calm, humorous. Worth the read. END

Summary: A great biography about a very private public official
Review: Former President George Bush opens his life and shares some of his feelings through over five decades of his personal and private correspondance to friends, family, political acquaintences. A very nice look at the often private life of an individual who has served in public capacities for over four decades.

While you may not like the former President's politics, you'll enjoy reading about his life with all of its ups and downs through this revealing and very kind hearted biography. A very good read!

Summary: Excellent
Review: This book is one of the best books i have ever read. You are able to get a real insight into former President Bush and what makes him tick. You discover what a wonderful family man he really is. It is an excellent book.

Summary: Letters from the Life of a much lived man
Review: This is like sitting over a brew on a long fall evening sharing snippets of stories with one of the most private of public citizens. President George Bush has had a long political life with his beloved wife at his side & his tribe of children around him. He has exchanged memos & letters on a personal level with the famous & the everyday. He is always interested, sometimes interesting & has a wily sense of humor & a certain sense of reality.

Summary: A Real Man, A Real Husband
Review: During a Presidency in which decency and familiy committment has certainly been lost, it was refreshing to read of a man, a President, who lived life with his priorities in the right place. All persons, men and women alike, should take note.

Summary: Only Two Words Needed Here
Review: Only two words are needed here to sum up this collection compiled by Former President Bush: Character Counts! It does seem extraordinary to the vastly illiterate public that a man with such a full public life made a point to take the time to document and pass on his deepest thoughts in written form. The book may seem odd and quirky to an audience of people who rarely write or even dare to sort out the kind of issues that Mr. Bush has shared in its pages. At times troubling, at times funny, at times puzzling, the book leaves the reader with a great insight into the inner workings of a complex, heroic and humble man. Such a shame that his good works in his political life were cut short by the cut throat political ambitions of shallow self promoters. If only we had known then what we see revealed in the unfolding drama of George H.W. Bush's life contained here! Lets hope that this book will quietly serve as a reminder that CHARACTER does indeed COUNT.
