Rating: Summary: A story of true triumph! Wonderful!! Review: I had not realized just how long it had been since I read a truly satisfying book until She's Come Undone landed in my lap. Not only did it erupt many different emotions from me, but it also brought back memories from my childhood and left me wishing there was no such such thing as a "final chapter". Dolores Price is nothing short of a heroine; she certainly never deserves what is happening to her. Wally Lamb does a fantastic job of describing every moment, every thought and every action. He does not spare us any details and does not side step important situations like emotional & sexual abuse, depression, and descrimination. This is certainly one for your library and one for your friends. You will not forget Dolores.
Rating: Summary: Overwhelmingly depressing!!! Review: One sad slam after another - I was waiting and suffering through 400+ pages just to get a glimpse of some happiness in this poor young woman's life - none to be found! I regret spending a Club Med vacation reading this ugly story. Lamb is articulate and creative with words but don't read this unless you enjoy dwelling on life's negativity!
Rating: Summary: Hesitant, But Completely Satisfied Review: When I received this book as a gift, I was very hesitant about reading it. But when I did start, I couldn't stop! I went through the entire thing in 2 days. Delores just gripped me from the start. I'm very glad that Wally Lamb wrote this book, because it doesn't give a perfect little rosy view of life and its ups and downs. Delores had a mind of her own. She is the epitome of a strong woman. Even though it took her a long time to find peace, she finally realized that life doesn't come all packed up in a nice little box with a pretty bow. You have to make your own destiny, not expect it to just come to you. Of course, there were times that I wanted to reach through the pages and slap her because she wasn't trying, but it would have been unrealistic for her to do things the simple way. How many of you have done everything that you knew you should do all of the time? This book is definitely not depressing, it is real.
Rating: Summary: It got better. Review: I really enjoyed This Much is True, so I was really looking forward to reading She's Come Undone. I was thoroughly dissappointed with the book at first and was just forcing myself to finish it on principal. I did not like Delores. I thought she was rude, sarcastic and I really could not relate to her attitude at all, so therefore I could not sympatize with her too much. But, what I was able to begin to appreciate was her growth with maturity over the years. Which is an unusual aspect. So often characters remain pretty much the same throughout a book regardless of the span of time that has gone by. After Vita Marie, I was able to begin to relate with her. She became more and more real and appealing and then I found myself wanting and waiting to find out what would happen with her next. I really like who she became. Being a born-again Christian, I am pro-life and anti-abortion. I really appreciate the aspect of how the author dealth with the reality of how that one decision affects the rest of your life and it is truly a loss of a loved one. The only other pet peeve is that I found myself being really jealous of her orgasms. I am celibate and waiting until marriage..So who knows when my time will be. But when it comes, I want to have good ones too!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Literature Review: Wally Lamb has in a few hundred pages captivated the essence of an entire human being. I was very impressed with the author's work and cannot wait to start in on his other novel.
Rating: Summary: How can a man know so much about being an overweight woman Review: This is the most fantastic book I have read in many years. I am now reading his second book. Wally Lamb has heart, knowledge, good writing, humor, sorrow. Lamb is one of the most satisfying writer's of our times.
Rating: Summary: Wally Lamb gets to the heart of being a fat girl Review: Wally Lamb rips out the throat of the reader in She's Come Undone, a gut-wrenching, sometimes stomach churning account of Dolores, an obese girl. Starting with her childhood, he paints a vivid picture of dysfunction, codependence, and ultimately addiction, brought on by a well meaning mother and an inability to deal with the feelings she carries. Dolores is in actuality a Phoenix, destined to rise to face all the challenges a "normal" life holds. While emotionally charged and heartbreaking, this book is a must read for anyone who has been obese. Wally Lamb hit the nail on the head with this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book!!!! Review: I think that this is one of the best books I have ever read! There were times when I felt that I acutally knew Delores Price, I felt that she was one of my family members. He writes about her as if she was a real person.
Rating: Summary: Made me sick to my stomach. Review: What a tragic story to read. You feel impelled to keep going even when you forget why. A book about nothing working out. Definitly not upbeat reading. If you are feeling depressed about weight issues, it might make you feel worse.
Rating: Summary: He was unable to capture how a women feels Review: I found that the Author could not capture and hold me. There was something missing. The ending was to vague.....
