Review: Wally Lamb has outdone himself in this magnificent book about a young woman striving for meaning in her life. The characters were so real and he did such a good job of writing from a woman's point of view that I found this book hard to put down at night.

Summary: Simply Amazing for a male writer
Review: I could not believe that a man wrote this book, not because men don't understand emotions of women, but that he understood it so well. The book was gripping from the start, and though it was depressing, I closed it with a smile. It didn't have the Hollywood ending that you hope for, but that just means there's no room for unrealistic comparing of yourself to the character. Our society is so conscious of living the perfect life; body, money, status, etc. It's a refreshing novel to read when one needs a dose of reality.

Review: Couldn't put this one down..perhaps because I related to much to Dolores...If you have issues with addiction, this book can bring up a lot of stuff...very painful and depressing but also challenging in that it made me go back through my own pain and look at it.

Summary: Dolores Price, with the strength of a true heroine.
Review: This novel was the most enjoyable book. With a cast of colorful characters and topping the list is Dolores Price. She is a cross between Daisy Clover and Mama Cass. She comes across so honestly in her pursuit of happiness. A character you are not afraid to dissagree with and definetly one you will come to love. Any young women can relate to her feelings of loneliness, rage, insanity, joy and euphoria. By the end of the book she has become a very real part of you. She shines through each devastating experience with such admirable strength, she is a female to respect.

Summary: The Best Book About Compulsive Eating I have Ever Read
Review: Delores Price was an all-consuming character. After reading this book, it took me a few days to untangle my own psyche from hers. As a survivor of an eating disorder, and as an eating disorder educator, I can honestly say that I have never read a more honest and sensitive story about compulsive eating. Although I thought the ending got a little "Forrest Gumpy" spaning the age of AIDS and all, I love Delores Price. She is strong, and she is righteous. She gives compulsive eaters hope, and a voice without apology or excuses.

Summary: The author is uncomfortable writing in the voice of a woman.
Review: Wally Lamb is a mystery to me. I found his writing in the voice of a woman to be forced and unnatural. As for his story, I was unable to work up sympathy for his much maligned protagonist. This story has none of the rich texture of a Pat Conroy novel, whom I felt Wally Lamb was trying to emulate. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Review: I think Wally Lamb did an amazing job with this story. What a roller coaster ride poor Dolores was on. The most important point of the story is that it took the right person to make Dolores really look at herself and start to heal. I found the ending a little disappointing, but it was a great story!

Review: This book was great. In fact, I learned a lesson from it that changed my life. The lesson I learned was 'don't put off your own happiness'. When friends and family ask me to recommend a book, this is the book I first recommend.
