Summary: This book would touch any woman's heart
Review: I thought this book was very heart warming. Some was very depressing, but it was a great book. I haven't read many books from front to back, but I did with this one in no time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best books I've ever read
Review: I am 18 years old and my mother gave me this book to read. I wasn't quite sure about it. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. It takes you inside Dolores' life, and makes you go through all her heartaches and joys with her. I strongly recommend this book for a woman of any age.

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: Many authors can develop a character but Wally Lamb was able to create and enter Dolores' mind. He portrayed a female with such depth that it's far to comprehend that he, himself, is of the other sex.

Many authors can't do that with their own characters but somehow, possibly using magical powers, he was able to write with such clarity and understanding of what Dolores went through.

Summary: This is one of the best books I've ever read in my life!!!
Review: The way Wally wrote the women's part was incrediable. I felt like I was actually going through the problems with Dalores. This was one book I could hardly put down. Start this book in the morning, and you will be reading all day long.

Summary: a real book of what a hard childhood is like
Review: there are some people who dont like this book because she doesnt act like they want her to,they are very stupid. This book tells what it is really like for a hard childhood, its real.

Summary: So what if she's not Pollyanna?
Review: If I wanted a story about a girl who stayed loving positive, and sunshine in the face of tragedy, I would have rented a Disney movie. I opted for real, however, and Lamb delivered. People who overcome against incredible odds carry scars, and that is a fact. Delores, the bitter, angry, and victimized woman in this story is scarred, and perhaps forever, by the tragedies she has suffered. And, it nearly kills her. But she survives, and learns to live, almost in spite of herself.

Her frustration, anger, fear, and guilt masks itself under nearly 300 pounds of protective blubber and the wrath of a wounded elephant. She is caustic, lazy, whining, and self-piting but all the more likable because she learns to get over herself and accept what she has earned as her happiness.

Shades of gray make up Delores Price, just like every person. Dark closets have intrigue and wild mint grows beside smelly garbage cans. Lamb helps us find the beauty in the repulsive and the hero in the slovenly victim.

If you prefer lemonade from lemons, don't read this book. If you however, want a book about real characters who break out of the sewer and still stink just a little bit, you'll probably enjoy it.

Summary: very readable but characters were too sterotypical.
Review: while the writer's style was very fluid and the book was easy to read, the characters were neither believable nor memorable. Contrary to the review on the back cover and popular sentiment, I did not feel that the author made you care about the characters or their terrible lives.

Summary: Does not live up to the hipe made about it
Review: This was my first book by Wally Lamb and I read it because it was in Oprah's book club..... I was totally unimpressed. The storyline was ... O.Kay but I dont think the the authour should attempt writing from a woman perspective, as he dosen't understand and thus Delores came across very shallow for the "heroine" of the book. I would not recommend this book for serious readers. It may be okay for readers who are interested in something "light". This book stimulated my mind as much as those cheap romance thrillers would. NOT AT ALL. Sorry Wally..... I hope that your other book on Oprahs list is better

Summary: One of the best books of fiction in years
Review: I usually read an interesting book at one sitting, however, I kept putting this one down for the simple reason that I did not want to leave Delores' life.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: i didn't grow up fat but.....
