Summary: The most memorable book I have ever read.
Review: Though two years have passed since I finished this novel, I still think about the vivid characters and Lamb's brilliant insight into the female psyche. This is the only book that has ever marked me in such a way and I will always be grateful that I had the opportunity to read it.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Quite a tormenting read of an unlikeable woman's redemption.
Review: We can understand the emotional devastation that a parents' divorce---and then a rape---can cause. But I don't understand the incontrovertible hatred Dolores Price had for her father, even though deep inside, she longed to be with him! Her feelings and attitude towards her father were very self-destructive and made her life more miserable. It was obvious from her recurring memories of her once blissful life with her father that she might have wanted to do something to save, or rekindle, their relationship, yet she did absolutely nothing!

That keeping the love letters and pictures of your roommate's boyfriend---all too personal and confidential---is a common and understandable act for a lost and confused adolescent: NOW THAT REALLY SCARES ME. She assimilates this stranger's identity as if he were her own intimate friend and pursues him years later (lucky for her she becomes his type!), and then she spills all the beans and expect him to sympathize with her---these are the machinations of a professional psychopath. The book is telling us that we can create and improvise our life experiences, some or most of which can end up hurting us in the end, but they can enlighten us just the same. Which may explain why she becomes more likeable towards the end. Perhaps the author could have thought of a better plan that the character would devise to consummate her self-redemption. This whole thing about literally stalking someone and using this as a means of fulfilling one's redemption bothers me.

The book failed to provide a little more detail on how her counseling sessions helped her acquire the high level of discipline that was necessary for her to lose the extra poundage. You get the impression that POOF! she just lost all that weight and she has become a better person...just like that.

Summary: complex, confusing, and fantastic
Review: As a thirteen year-old who read this book on summer vacation, I didn't know I was on a mind boggling trip. But, to enjoy this book, you just have to sit back and take everything in as you read. Enter the strange world ofDolores Price, a smart-mouthed kid who's just trying to make her way through life. But, a devastating rape changes her life dramatically. As you journey through her life, you realize that Wally Lamb has created a masterpiece. Just remember to keep an open mind.

Summary: Gripping--I made a mad dash to finish this book!
Review: After seeing this title recommended by Oprah's Book Club, I decided I wanted to read it. It looked interesting, but I thought it would be more light-hearted. I enjoyed the book in retrospect, but there were parts of the book which disgusted me. I felt the only way to "feel OK" was to continue reading until I could reach some sort of happy sentiment in the book. However, I definitely recommend this book. Dolores, the main character, will stay with you for several days after you have read this novel. Gripping--I made a mad dash to finish this book!

Summary: The Power of Oprah
Review: A very powerful and frank novel. Some parts seem too hellish to ever have happened, but the weight control problem and her responses to the ones around her was just too painful to read. It's quite surprising how one day time talk show can bring fame to a book such as thus.

Summary: shallow, contrived, depressing, yet engrossing
Review: strangest reading experience i've had in a while.

lamb is a cunning writer, perhaps too cunning. his 'woman's voice' strikes me more as a parlor trick than anything else: he can sound like one, but that's about as deep as it goes.

that's my main criticism of this book: it lacks depth. i never get of sense of who any of these people are, what really makes them tick. maybe it's because dolores is way too self-absorbed and fundamentally dishonest to provide us with any reliable insight into herself or any of the people around her. such a narrow and deceptive perspective hobbles narration (is that why everything takes so long) and makes real depth of character impossible.

i couldn't care about dolores. i didn't find her all that funny or likeable, and many of the things she did horrified and frustrated me. yet as annoyed and disheartened as i was, i couldn't put this book down. i picked it up on a Christmas Eve self-gifting jaunt. I finished reading it this morning. Wally Lamb may be the only writer ever to bring me to the conclusion of more than 400 pages with such a resoundingly hollow thud.

Summary: I cried, I laughed and i couldnt put it down
Review: A true coming of age story for anyone of any age. The struggles this young woman goes through are paralled ,in some degree, in everyones life. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to learn more about themselves.

Summary: I was so sad it was over! I wanted to continue reading!
Review: Dolores Price has had quite a life. Her life has been filled with violence and pain, and to cope, she has been shoving her pain down with chips and soda. However, she is strong. She doesn't know how strong she is, and neither did I. I loved reading every page of this book. Lamb does such an extraordinary job of creating Dolores and all of the characters who love her. However, there's a lot of loss in this book. People who are close to her come and go, and if you're emotional, bring some tissues. In the end, however, Dolores and I are left with the one truth that reigns supreme: when you find love, take it and don't look back. I hope Lamb creates a sequel so that I can see how the next 40 years of Dolores' life turn out!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: She's Come Undone is the most touching book anyone can read
Review: In the novel 'She's Come Undone' Wally Lamb offers a life-altering story about a girl from age four to forty. If I had to pick only one book to recommend for somebody to read, there would be no contest, I would pick She's Come Undone. It is easy to understand so anyone can enjoy it. Dolores Price becomes almost part of your family. She will remind you of yourself while searching the many depths of the human soul. Dolores is an idol to many. She will fill any empty feeling in your heart with warm fuzzies from head to toe.

Summary: This book is truly worth reading and is a real page-turner.
Review: THis book was great because it dealt with an obese girl that had so many issues, but it was not a tear-jerking book. You did not feel sorry for her, you were just living her life through the novel. This book was absolutely enthralling, daring, and purely wonderful!
