Rating: Summary: Good, despite Oprah nay-sayers Review: It's funny, this book was good. Almost every person who gave it one to two stars bought it because of Oprah. Is that all I have to say? The book was excellent. Read from inspiration, not from publicity.
Rating: Summary: Captivating story Review: I absolutely loved this book. It was almost impossible to put down. I read right through it. It shows inside this young girl's life as she grows into an adult. You see her at her weakest and strongest points in life. It was a great book and I'd recommend reading it.
Rating: Summary: Intriguing Review: The best word I can come up with is "intriguing." I finished this book in three days (two spent mostly on a plane) only because I was so INTERESTED in where Delores was headed. I can't say I loved the story, but I certainly bought into it for a while. Well done.
Rating: Summary: This book exploits the emotions of gullible people. Review: This book was a sappy, cheesy story which does not deserve any credit. It is similar to his other books, like "I know this much is true." The only reason anyone gives it any respect is because it was on Oprah's Book Club and people are too afraid to say anything bad about it because they think people will make fun of them or something. The content really was not that great, and I feel it is time someone spoke up and denied Oprah her instant bestseller powers.
Rating: Summary: As a 15 year old girl, this book was touchingly funny!! Review: This book was so good, it was really very hard to put down. It is such a woman's kind of book, and was very hard to believe that it was written by a man. The main character, Dolores, was so real and went through things that were real, too. Although the book was quite hard to read at times, I finished this book faster that any other before. It was truly a rewarding piece. I suggest this to anyone who wants to laugh out loud, and who's strong enough to realize that even fictional characters do the same things we do.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Story Review: This book is an amazing story....its sometimes comical, sometimes depressing and othertimes intreging tale of a girls life from childhood to an adult...it took only a few days to read, and it was worth it all
Rating: Summary: What's the big fuss? Review: I was very disappointed. My niece recommended it to me and since we have similar tastes in a lot of things, I thought I would enjoy it. Perhaps it was all the hype. But Dolores was so angry at everyone and all the time. Until the last 20 or so pages of the book, she never matured beyond the angry 12-year old. I didn't like her and wasn't surprised that few people did.
Rating: Summary: Wish it never ended! Review: I thought this book was amazing. It was conclusive and captivating. I recommend this book to anyone who can be swept away into someone's life as they struggle to obtain themselves. Simply amazing.
Rating: Summary: Zero Stars Review: I don't agree with the praise given to how this story was written. I found the story hard to stick with. What was most frustrating was that the male characters were very shallow and unbelievable. (Ironic since the female characters had more depth and this is all from a male author.) The only redeeming quality would be the subject matter. I was not impressed with this story. I will be more discriminating next time I try an Oprah recommendation.
Rating: Summary: A PRICELESS TREASURE! Review: Dolores is actually believable! Wally Lamb gives you an intimate view on a person's troubled life. The characters and story line seemed so real I kept thinking on what the rest would turn out to be. I'm dying for a sequel!
