Summary: Pure soap opera - or should that be soap-Oprah?
Review: That critics have dared to compare Mr Lamb to the likes of Messrs Irving and Updike only confirms Joe Queenan's assertion that "critics are basically stupid." "She's Come Undone" is a shallow, sentimental and superficial piece of nonsense that purports to speak authoritatively about Big Issues That Affect Women. It is no surprise that it is written by a man - it would have been more surprising if it had been written by a woman. This is the sort of twaddle that appeals to the hand-wringing hordes who inhabit Ms Winfrey's television universe.

Summary: Probably the best book I've ever read.
Review: This book was indescribably wonderful. It was poignant and clever, and funny within pages of being tissue-box sad. I couldn't put it down. Wally Lamb has so effectively and completely captured the female soul in this book... it still amazes me to think that it was written by a man.

Summary: Excellent book for anyone who ever felt less than worthy .
Review: This book touches base for anyone who ever felt that they were "less than worthy". It is a realistic, albeit exaggerated, story of onw young girls bizarre reality. It made me feel lucky!

Summary: Heroines
Review: Dolores Price is the best heroine I've ever read about in a book in ages. Witty and tragic, depressed and comical, she weaves all these traits into beautiful tapestry that is her eventful life. This book, through Dolores Price, puts real truth in every cliche, from "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger" to "Tomorrow will be a better day." I couldn't help but quiver my lip at the ending. An astounding novel!

Summary: HORRID!
Review: This was, by far, the worst book I have ever read. This book has absolutely no redeeming qualities and does little more than glorify spite and immaturity. The male characters are absolutely horrific - narcissistic adulterers and rapists - while the "heroine" is a emotional black hole. The story is full of tired cliches and stereotypes. I sincerely hope that men don't turn to this book for insight into the female psyche. "She's Come Undone" is an insult to any intelligent woman. It certainly shouldn't appeal to any discerning man either. I am ashamed I wasted my time reading it. I would have given it 0 stars but that wasn't an option.

Summary: Great read, colorful characters, bittersweet and believable
Review: Really surprised how much I liked this book. At first, I was just using it as something to read before bedtime, but then as the main character developed, I wound up staying up way past my bedtime! I had to find out how Dolores would deal with her dilemmas. I could also relate to the events as I grew up in the same time period (60s and 70s). Interesting, smirky and at times very subtly poignant. I laughed out loud and cried throughout her experiences. I feel like I know Dolores Price and I would be honored to have her as a friend.

Summary: A good, complicated book with good metaphors and thoughts.
Review: I thought this was a very good book. I read it over the summer of 1998. I had to keep reminding myself that a man had written it, not a woman. It was a complicated book, but there were excellents recurring themes and it became easier to understand.

Summary: Interesting
Review: In this book, Wally Lamb takes us throught the life of a girl who goes through her completely disfunctional life with a cast of characters that are hard to like. I actually didn't like the main character until three quarters of the way through the book. I don't think that I would have finished the book, if it wasn't the pick of the month of my book club.

Wally Lamb's does have the uncanny ability to create wacky characters to surround Dolores and make her life interesting. This was not a boring book, to say the least. Dolores does go through some terrible experiences in her life, even contemplating suicide.

I liked how she finally decided what she wanted and the ending was the best part of the book, because she finally accepts who she is and is happy with herself.

Summary: I could totally relate
Review: Even though I had never been in many of the situations, I could totally relate to Delores' feelings. If a guy wants to understand women I reccommend he reads this book. It amazes me that it was written by a man because it is the first book I was like, "Wow, it's like he knows me and knows how I feel and what I think". A lot may say that Delores is inept and stupid and knows that she should be able to get out of these relationships, but people who are in similar situations often react that way. I have seen it many times and people who claim that she is dumb obviously are oblivious to it, want to deny it or have never met someone it has happened to. It gave me a better understanding of other people and myself. I hate reading and I couldn't put this book down!

Summary: Disgusting
Review: I read this book about a year ago, and I'm still disgusted when I even think about it! How could Oprah recommend this book! I haven't read anymore of her "book club" suggestions after wasting my time on this one. The whole reading experience was just plain embarrassing. This one ended up in the trash.....Yuk!
