Rating: Summary: Unbelievable!! Review: This book is a dose of reality for anybody. . .I loved it!!! After I picked it up, I couldn't put it down until I completely finished with it. It's unbelievable that a man could develop the character of a woman with such understanding and knowledge about her life and her feelings.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This is a must read book. I am only thirteen years old and can hardly believe the hardships that she has endured throughout her life. I was sad when I finished the book, (I didn't want it to end) but i was glad that Dolores had finally found happiness. I read this book in three days- it was that good. It is the type of book that you have to pinch yourself to see if you are actually seeing and reading the words on the page in front of you. I recommend it to all readers.
Rating: Summary: I can't stop thinking about Dolores Review: Dolores Price, the central character in this book, feels like someone I have known for years. I just can't stop thinking about her. Sometimes I pity her, sometimes I despise her, sometimes I want to give her a hug, and sometimes, I am just so proud of her. I finished this book in 3 sittings (something I have never done before) and I am about to read it again in case anything went over my head the first time (again, something I have never done before.) As I read this book, I didn't think I'd give it 5 stars. I wasn't even sure it would get 4. Some of the plot twists are very predictable. As I reflect on the book, though, I don't think that made a difference. This isn't a suspense novel. Things were predictable in the same way they are out here in the real world. Actions have consequences, and those consequences rarely surprise us. It's how she deals with those consequences that makes Dolores so real.
Rating: Summary: A truly amazing novel! Review: I loved how the author revealed his character, Dolores Price. She had depth, something that truly amazed me. As an adolescent, I can relate to some of her constant everyday struggle. She did, however, encounter events that I could never think of occuring in my lifetime. Her pain saddened me, her confidence brightened me. I definitely think that this is a novel that one should not miss out on!
Rating: Summary: excellent, top-notch Review: this is one of the better books that oprah has selected. i found the main character to be believable, endearing and someone i would like to know. even though i suspect we all know a few people like her. people who seem to have a tougher road to travel than many of us, who for whatever reason, just don't seem to get any breaks. my favorite parts of the book are near the end, especially when her dying friend tells her "accept what people offer, drink their milkshakes. Take their love" too often we go about life thinking that perfection or happiness is just around the corner, when in reality all we have is today and that happiness is a by-product not a pursuit. the best line in the book is "the secret (to happiness) is to just settle for the shape your life takes."
Rating: Summary: Coming full circle to the real you Review: This book was great each chapter brought a new suprise in Dolore's life. From rape, death and mental illness Dolore's has alot to go through before she discovers the real her. I'm glad Dante wasn't a permanent fixture in her life. He was self absorbed and used Dolores to make himself feel superior.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This book made me look at life in a completely new way. it opened the doors to a different type of story. one of an ordinary, extraudinary life. i became dolorus in that book, and learned from her mistakes. Amazing.
Rating: Summary: Truly a must read!!! Review: Some of the reviews state that Wally Lamb has no connection to a woman's psyche. Well I must disagree...as I am a woman. I kept having to look at the cover to double check that yes, a man wrote this book. I saw many reminders of my own fights with weight and other issues one faces while growing up. This was a wonderfully written book, I highly, highly recommend it to anyone...Male, Female, young and old.
Rating: Summary: From one teenager to another.... Review: Being just a sophomore in college, I seldom have time to read anything but the classics. I picked this book up upon seeing it appearing around my house (my mom loves mr. lamb :)... On a plane ride to see my boyfriend, I dove into a bottomless pool of pain, suffering, sorrow, happiness, ecstacy and prevalence... I fell in love with Delores, for who she was and who she wanted to be. She hit my heart so hard, I found myself not only in tears, but laughing out loud. I only wish I could meet her in person. Hats off to Mr. Wally Lamb... you held my heart and my head for 400 pages of an incredible saga.
Rating: Summary: Extremely sensitive and emotional, it was fabulous! Review: I couldn't put it down! Just the fact that a man wrote it from a female perspective is amazing. Throughout the entire novel, I felt pitty and heart-ache for Dolores - this is a great book- I definitely recommend to other people that they should pick up a copy, get comfortable, and read! You'll never want to put it down!
