Rating: Summary: Wally Lamb is a great guy and he has written a great book! Review: Wally Lamb's first novel, She's Come Undone, is excellent. From page one to the very end, Lamb keeps you enthralled. It is like reading a novel by John Irving. I went to grad school with Wally Lamb, in Vermont, and he was a great guy. The "in" thing to do in MFA In Writing programs in those days was to get loaded, load as many people as possible into a car, put a couple of people on the roof, and drive through the back roads up and down the hills of Vermont as fast as you can. Wally Lamb never did that. Neither did I, of course! Wally spent his time helping other students. We workshopped parts of the novel that became She's Come Undone and we all had a feeling his story was turning into something that would become a literary bestseller. Oprah's book club did the right thing by selecting this novel! I recommend it to all my writing students as an example of the kind of thing they should be trying to do ....
Rating: Summary: Buy it, Read it, Love it Review: I'm 14, and this book is the best I've ever read. And I LOVE to read. I want to love her and hate her at the same time. This book, you will never forget. Trust me.
Rating: Summary: Wow!! Great Book! Review: Being only 14, I read this book, because one of my friends read it and reccommended it. I was amazed by the changes and the way that Dolores overcame all of her childhood problems. I would reccommend it to anyone! This book was truely outstanding and believeable!
Rating: Summary: hug her or slap her? Review: I finished this book over the weekend, I couldn't put it down to save my life. Delores Price just amazed me. Half the time I wanted to cheer her on (when she finally sticks up for herself), and the other half I wanted to smack her (her pity parties). She's a great character and this book is a must read!
Rating: Summary: i liked the cover Review: The cover is what got me interested in the book and then I read the back and then I read the whole thing. I really got into it. It was really good if you have a few days to lay around and read. It's a nice book to have.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! just...WOW!!! Review: I guess you could say that i am pretty young. At the 'ripe' age of 14, this book taught me so much about life and love. I too am overweight, and my anger at Dolores showed me the anger people must feel towards me. I realize that you should truely try hard at everything! This is a life-changing book, literally!
Rating: Summary: Not as good as _I Know This Much Is True_ Review: I was disappointed by this novel. It didn't fit together as well as _I Know This Much Is True_. I kept wanting Delores to be happy but instead the story dragged on and got depressing. Delores came across as a weakling in the middle of the novel; she lost some of her sass. I would suggest reading Wally Lamb's second novel, _I Know This Much Is True_ instead of this one.
Rating: Summary: This book is amazing!! Review: When I first saw this book, it had the Oprah sticker on it. I don't like Oprah very much, and she didn't influence me to read this book. I was hesitant on if I should get the book, but I did anyway, and wow. I read it in 4 days. It was so real, sad, heartbreaking, and poignant. I don't know why I like it so much, perhaps that because after all that Dolores has been through, she finally succeeds and is happy. It's a beautifully told story, I think everyone should read it.
Rating: Summary: What a book! What a character! Review: I couldn't put this book down, especially during the first half. Later on, I didn't want to read it too quickly...I didn't want my time with this wacky heroine to end. I fell in love with Dolores' soul, tortured as it was. I laughed with her and cried with her. I yelled at her a lot!! I also enjoyed the time frame of the book enormously. Dolores was "born" the same year I was, and everything was so familiar to me...I could relate to all that was going on around her. We were the same age at the time of Woodstock, the first "moon walk",etc. (In some ways, this book was like a stroll down memory lane with a troubled friend by my side.) Dolores had more guts and strength than anyone I know. She was both crazy and completely sane at the same time. She scared me and she touched me. A true heroine who finally gets her deserved happiness. What a great book! To all who haven't yet met her, I say...READ IT! You'll be glad you did. Note to the author: How about Dolores, Part II?
Rating: Summary: I loved this one Review: I know there are hundreds of other reviews, but when I read through them I felt I had to add mine anyway. If you've read them as well, you see them divided into people who loved this book and people who hated it. As for me, I loved it. I don't mean to say that this is the *right* taste or anything. You just have to read it yourself. But I think that people who didn't like the book have never experienced depression or otherwise they would have understood and sympathized with Dolores. She is a strong character after all...she she shoved her way out of a completely messed up life best she could, it's only realistic that it doesn't turn into a dream. Sometimes,I admit to that, you're disgusted by what's happening, but you are still drawn to it and read on and on 'till you're through with 500 pages.(in,like 3 days). I thought this book was remarkable, and that this has nothing mucht to do with a man writing from a woman's point of view, this is about a writers passion about the character he has created. I truly found the dialogues remarkable, they were so vivid and funny.
