Summary: It made me Laugh one minute and Cry the next!!
Review: This book was a wonder in itself! I loved it! One minute I felt sorry for the girl and the next minute I was laughing about her. She is so pathetic and her life is so miserable that it makes you feel sorry for her, then she turns around and does something to mess up her life even more, and you laugh about it. All around good read!

Summary: ALL YOU'LL WANT TO DO IS TURN TO NEXT THE PAGE.
Review: THIS BOOK FAR EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. DOLORES IS A YOUNG WOMEN WHO SEEMED TO WANT MORE THEN ANYTHING TO BE ACCEPTED INTO A WORLD THAT HAS A PRECONCEIVED IDEA OF WHO SOMEONE SHOULD BE. WITH THAT SHE ACHIEVES MORE BY THE END OF THE BOOK THEN YOU EVER THOUGHT SHE COULD CONSIDERING WHAT SHE WENT THROUGH.

Summary: Awesome Author, Plot, Character
Review: I love the way Wally Lamb writes and the plot of his novel. The reader will pity, love, hate, boo, and cheer for Delores at different times- and sometimes at the same time!- throughout the novel. I have found a new favorite author and I really recommend this book to any modern fiction lover. A+++++++++++++++

Summary: A big non-event
Review: Despite the enormous hype over this book, it was, in my opinion, a huge bore! I did not find the lead character (Dolores) to be interesting or likeable. I found very little in this novel to relate to -- despite the fact that people kept telling me how effective Wally Lamb was writing in the "women's voice" for this novel. Sorry, Wally. When last I checked, I was a woman, and I found very little to relate to or of interest in this novel. Also, despite all of Dolores's life lessons, it was astounding to me to see how she continually made poor choices. I personally did not find this to be enjoyable or interesting reading. Just one big bore that I couldn't wait to put down. This is the 2nd selection from Oprah's book club that I have read. Strike two...

Summary: When I finish a book in one night it must be good!
Review: I picked this book up on a whim as a birthday present for my mother and was extremely happy that I borrowed it back from her. I think Wally Lamb did an excellent job writing a book through the eyes of a woman. I honestly forgot that it was written by a man while reading it. I was truly connected with his characters. I have read the book once and hope to read it again soon.

Summary: A moving odyssey that is impossible not to idenfity with
Review: There is so much to say about this book. I am a big reader and have read countless works but this is by far my favorite. A rather big book, I devoured it in less than a day. It draws the reader in from the first page, and written in a mezmerizing, intriguing first person, the reader truly understands and even befriends Dolores and intimately gets to know and understand all of the characters in her crazy world, for better or for worse. The novel is moving and uplifting, one that actually left me sobbing at the end from the sheer emotional experience of it, and yet it is painfulyl, explicitly realistic. All the characters are intensely real, flawed, and fascinating to read. This book was a true experience for me, and like with no other book, I never ever tire of re-reading it.

Summary: Aaaaah I hate this book!!!!!
Review: I wish that zero stars was an option. I had heard such good things about this book but I hate it. Dolores is a character that I pity but can't stand. She represents a lot of what is wrong with society- some horrible things happened to her and now all she does is feel sorry for herself and self-destruct. I can't even finish it, I'm halfway through and I hate it too much to continue. I'll live without knowing how it ends.

Summary: I wanted so badly for the adventure to never end!
Review: I don't think I need to mention the fact that Wally Lamb is an unbelievable author! The way he was able to just suck you in and become, or relate, in one way or another, to this woman. People have to be denial not to be able to see her strength and weakness in us all.

Summary: This book was a page turner- I
Review: I loved this book very much, even though Lamb's new book isn't anywhere on my top lists. The characters were so real, it was almost scary. I loved reading the story of self hope, truth, and self realiziation. It is a big book but I finished it in 3 days. I would recommend this one to anyone looking for a great read- but be prepared to meet many "different" characters, some you'll like, some you'll hate. I hope Wally Lamb writes another book like this one (not one like his newest). A definete page turner.

Summary: Not the masterpiece I expected
Review: A friend of mine heard that this was the first man who was able to effectively write as an overweight woman. I expected someone I could at least understand, if not with whom I could completely empathize. I found neither.

Dolores was an embarrasment to both women and overweight people. She, like so many others, makes overweight women look out of control, tattered, tormented, and hateful.
