Summary: This is a novel that I have literally read and re-read .
Review: From the first sentence through to the last, this delightful first novel will keep you in tears. Tears from laughing as well as crying. Dolores Price is that person that all of us have been at one time or another. I read this one the first time back when it was in it's original hardcover and have read it several more times since. Highly recommended.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Didn't want it to be over
Review: From start to finish this book captured my attention. I found it so easy to feel for Dolores while at the same time cringing at her next move. I stayed up late for 4 night to finish the book, would come home from work and start reading immediately. When it was over I was wishing I could have more. I really felt that Wally Lamb captured so much in this one character, Dolores. It was hard to believe at times that this novel was written by a male, as his insight into part of the female mind seemed so accurate. I would recommend this book, without a doubt. I have already told all my friends about it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best books i have ever read!
Review: This book is so good and captures the inner workings of it main female character that at times i could swear that wally lamb was a woman.

READ THIS BOOK, YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Superb coming of age fiction.
Review: What I think is most remarkable about this novel is the fact that it was written by a man. How can a man see so deeply into the heart of a woman? It made me laugh, cry, and discover a few things about myself. What more could you want from a novel? Any woman who was once an overweight girl will find a kindred spirit in Dolores Price. However, I was dismayed at the "cure" for Dolores' problems- she lost weight, and suddenly she was "normal" again. It disturbs me that Wally Lamb views excess weight as a sign of a mental disturbance. It is time that people learn to accept others and themselves at any size, race, or creed. Despite this glaring offense to fat people everywhere, this is a terrific novel with a lot to offer.

Summary: a real eye opener!
Review: I don't understand how anyone could give this book some of the low ratings i've seen among these reviews. And they all do it for the same reasons-they think the book is depressing, and think dolores has too much self pity. Well, welcome to the real world!! Life is not always seen through rose colored glasses, if this were a book about nothing going wrong, how boring it would be!! Yeah, i admit, at times i thought, when is it all going to end for poor dolores? But there are people that do have bad lives, and this is the story of one of them. I personally found her quite triumphant in the end, and was very happy for her, although it really saddened me that she couldn't have children at the end, i think having one would have been good for her. Anyway, this book really made me appreciate all the good in my life, and i found myself really rooting for the main character to succeed. It's an easy, quick page turner, and a wonderful, multi-layered story, that will give any reader insights. Depressing at times? yes, but that makes the good things that happen mean so much more.

Summary: This is an over-hyped work with very few redeeming qualities
Review: Wally Lamb's "She's Come Undone" is an example of how the American public has come to confuse quanitity for quality. One can equate this novel with a giant jug of canned peaches you can get at any suburban Costco-- it is huge, so you forget that it is awful, and you are so proud of yourself for getting through it that you mistake your pride for actual appreciation. Like the big jug of peaches, it is canned and marketed and made of what you expect it to be made of. It provides no challenges for the reader, it is nothing origional or created in the heart. It is not a work of literature or art, but rather the equivilant of watching a bad made for television movie.

There is no character development in the novel. By the end did you actually care about the heroine? Or were you just wondering what other thing would happen in her life?

Lamb keeps the reader reading by throwing in an interesting situation or event which, like an addictive soap opera, keeps the reader going. His attempts to sensationalize bring to mind Danielle Steele, and one has to wonder if maybe "She's Come Undone" should have had an appropriately super-market-novel title to it, like "Angst and Yearning" or something equally ridiculous.

The only redeeming characters in the novel are the mother and grandmother, who inspire more genuine interest than the heroine ever could.

Also a big misconception is that Lamb "nailed" the woman's "voice". It is hard to forget that a man wrote this novel, and certain scenes and events are so clearly written by a man that it is no wonder the heroine seems to suffer from an identity crisis which leaves the reader unable to really get to know her on any level beyond the superficial.

It is as if Lamb thinks that if the book is long enough the reader will ignore aspects like structure, character development, voice and plot. Readers should expect more from literature than something that is so clearly canned and processed and so shamelessly over hyped.

Summary: an enjoyable, heart-touching, read
Review: I read this book on vacation in a matter of about 4 days. The male author, Wally Lamb, does an incredible job of describing a woman's adventures through life. This book was heart-wrenching, humorous, and touching. A great read! I have recommended it to all of my friends.
