Summary: A slow burn!
Review: This book was written by a man who has such a grasp on the psyche of women its amazing! I had to keep flipping to his picture to make sure he was a he! Dolores, in my opinion, portrays as a whole at least 1% of every woman. I think that deep down we all at least identify with her in some way. I could not put this book down. Psst..I even went home from work early one day just to curl up on my couch and read it. I would recommend it to anyone. A truly triumphant story!

Summary: The best book I have ever read
Review: This book is so good. Even though I am not done with the book (I am only on the part where Kippy broke her shoulder) I can safely say this book is the best, most realstic and heartbreaking book I have ever read. The charcters are so real they jump off the pages. You end up into the world of Dolores Price a world you won't seem to forget.

Summary: By far the best book I read last year
Review: Two years ago I started a book discussion group. As one can imagine, many, many books have been read and reviewed in my group. I must say that this was, by far, the BEST book I was fortunate enough to happen upon last year. It is truly a gem. I laughed, cried, and actually had to, from time to time, flip over to Lamb's picture because I had to keep reminding myself that it was a man who had actually authored this book. His insight into a woman's heart, mind, soul and thoughts is astonishing. Delores' character is nutty, witty, wise-cracking and charming all at once. Mr. Lamb has written a novel that will be fondly remembered for years to come.

Summary: Unbelieveable! A real page turner!
Review: Wally Lamb is a wonderful writer and it is quite remarkable howhe is able to write from a woman's perspective! She's come undone isa real page turner and is gripping from page to page.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The incredibly gripping story of Dolores Price
Review: I read Wally Lamb's first novel over a year ago and, unbelievably, all in one day! I have never felt so overwhelmed with emotion for any character that I have 'traveled' with in text. I have since read She's Come Undone four times and it is always better than the last! I praise Mr. Lamb for his incredible insight and understanding of true human emotion that brings tears to my eyes each time I finish this, my favorite novel.

Summary: Dolores Price is the pygmalion of the 20th century
Review: Could not put this book down!! I could relate to Dolores as I too was an overweight child and young adult struggling with wanting to be popular yet hating the way I looked. Of course my life wasn't quite as miserable as hers, but I definitely could relate to her. Wally Lamb's fascinating insight into the female mystique is unbelievable, especially for a man! I have his other book, I Know This Much Is True, and if its as good as this one, he has a fan for life!

Summary: Interesting Reading
Review: I thought a lot of the images in this story were unsettling, but I think everyone knows a person like this. A person that spends their whole life trying to fit in. I think the book was very well written and it made you want to read on.

Summary: Agitprop for the Emotionally Labile
Review: I bought this book because a psychiatrist I met who wanted to be a writer told me it was good. The endorsement as a selection by Oprah's Book Club actually put me off a little when I saw it on the cover, since it was a little hard for me to imagine the Oprah watchers of America reading anything that wasn't trite, cliched, and formulaic.

But this book is good. In a way, it's too good. What I mean by that is that this is the kind of book which has the potential to break the frozen ice of the soul and stir compassion, a dangerously limiting quality if you're in the front seat with the rest of America on its frantic ride to riches at any cost and consumption as being.

Which is why I think a number of people are annoyed by the book, characterizing it as depressing. It's not a depressing book, but it's a real book -- maybe a little too real for those who might prefer to believe that there is no real suffering in the world, or that it all reduces finally to indulging in "victim mentality."

Reading those sorts of reviews here says as much about the zeitgeist of our times as it does about the book. If this is the kind of novel Oprah is getting people to read then I've severely underestimated her.

Summary: I would look up, and I had been reading for hours......
Review: Yes, it's a long book and a VERY sad story for the most part, but you won't be able to stop reading it. It's entirely engrossing. As for that one reader review that said you didn't care about Dolores in the end, I can only say, "Are you high!?" There are points when she makes revelations to one character toward the end of the book where I was shaking as much as I can imagine she would've been. I was so connected to her, I couldn't help caring and laughing and wincing all through her (Lamb's) account of her difficult life. That's another thing...Wally Lamb must be channeling women to have gotten so close to a woman's voice. Simply excellent.

Summary: This is one of the best modern books I have ever read.
Review: Despite being a male, Wally Lamb did an incredible job in portraying the life, trials and tribulations of Dolores, he takes us through her life doing so in a way that all girls can relate to her in some degree. It was with great intrigue that I read this book. This novel evoked emotion and thought and had me analysing my own life. I found myself thinking of Dolores as a friend, a neighbour, a sister; someone that you would meet on the street. As I read the last words of this book I wished there was more. I wondered; What happened to Dolores next? Where did she go from there? This truly is a jem of a book and was a pleasure to read. As a teenager, I reccomend this novel to women of all ages
