Rating: Summary: lost in the masses, hopefully my review will help someone Review: i began to know dolores as if she was the back of my hand.... the wrinkles and folds were the quirky habits of hers... and the bruises and blemishes were the emotional scars that tainted her ever move. dolores seemed to have been tainted from her childhood... by the little girls up the street, to her insane mother... although lamb's writing style is comparable to many other women authors' HE prevails above the rest, because HE is a male and captured the female voice perfectly. the insecure voice of dolores this is... he made me want to retreat to playing with etcha-sketches and touching a dying whales warm body... he made me want to do so many things. i may just be a reader, but it seems like all of the books i have picked up recently have been hard to put down. this one especially, my mother recommended this one and i took it on because it looked like it would keep me busy for awhile and the back seemed interesting enough...and it was truly interesting enough... i gave this one only four stars because i think it may have been a bit too interesting. but that always keeps me reading, so there is a high point to that also. i liked the comedy of it all. i liked the fact that dolores seemed to dig herself deeper and deeper... i liked the fact that she seemed even more lost than i did... but the book left me depressed as hell for the two or three days that i sat around the house reading it...
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable to read, but trashy Review: I liked the fact that this book was an easy read, and I found myself not wanting to put it down. However, I can't believe anyone would say that this is the best book they've ever read. It's a good beach read, and not any better than a trashy soap opera. Dolores' character is not a believable one. Not one of us can say that we've never experienced trauma in our lives, but this was overdone. It was like, "How many awful things can Wally Lamb make happen to one person in one book?"
Rating: Summary: Hard to like Review: A co worker and I read this book at the same time, and while she said she could relate to the main character, I felt nothing but irritation for here until the very end, when she redeemed herself ( in my eyes) with Mr. Pucci. I think she deserved what Dante gave her, and all that moaning and groaning over her pregnancy with its implication that- If you have an abortion you will regret it the rest of your life and never get pregnant again- give me a break! However I will admit that I could not put the book down. I enjoyed the timeliness of the writing; all the references to specific TV shows made it seem like you were reading a freshly updated journal. I would recommend this book, but would warn that it's not a warm fuzzy novel.
Rating: Summary: full of laughs and sorrows, very well written Review: This book chronicles the life of Dolores from a young age of 5 up until she's in her late 20's, early 30's. She experiences many ups and downs in her life; some of which were sad, yet her way of looking at the world seemed to be through humor. It's the type of book that if you enjoy it you will want to read it again, which I am doing now. Some people may see themselves in this book.....recommended
Rating: Summary: It's Good Review: This book is better than most that you're likely to just pick up. It's not always the happiest book, but it is honest and strightforward,.... no gorgeous heroine or sanitized happily ever after ending. The end message is a good one, learn to accept the people and appreciate the relationships you are given rather than always struggling to bend and create these things to fit your own ideal. You have to suspend some belief in this novel, so I can't say that it is absolutely seamless. How many mysterious benefactors and benefactresses can one hateful, fat, lonely teenaged girl expect to have in a lifetime? But that's a small complaint for an overall terrific book.
Rating: Summary: Good, but cruel Review: Overall I liked this book, but despite the insinuation of humor that some reviewers attributed to "She's Come Undone," I found the book to be rather cruel and difficult to read at times. I guess that's the sign of literary talent (Lamb does a remarkable job of writing as a woman), but this book was not as fun to read as the back cover made it out to be. I was ready for a good book and I got it, but I wasn't ready for the cruelty and depression that the book conveyed. I recommend this book, but I would like readers to know that this book will make them sad and possibly even depressed.
Rating: Summary: Potentially a good book, but he tried too hard Review: I liked the way this book began and developed. It took a few interesting twists until it turned into an unbelievable fantasy. I grew to dislike the main character for her lack of regard for others. (Namely, the two men in her life at the end of the book.) Dolores turned into a selfish, deceitful, pathetic person. A little editing (or better yet, a lot) towards the middle of this book would have gone a long way towards making it a truly touching novel.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: This was the most descriptive, wonderful, enjoyable book that I have ever read! Though its length was at first daunting, it was an extremely fast read. I think that everyone should take the time to read this novel, as it holds insight into the troubles that many people face everyday. Give it a try. It's worth it.
Rating: Summary: ummmm... Review: I don't know exactly what to say about this one. I like Mr. Lamb's writing style...he definetly kept me reading. The character seemed very extreme and a little unrealistic in her escapades. I thought it was cool overall though.
Rating: Summary: She's Come Undone Review: I was very pleased to read this exceptional novel by Wally Lamb. The story focuses on the life of Dolores Price and her struggles. Dolores is a very realistic character. The dialouge is magnificent!
