Rating: Summary: An Incredible Read Review: I will NEVER forget Dolores Price. Her fascinating story has stuck with me ever since I read it. Funny, extremely well written and original, I have never, nor will I ever, read another book like it. I'm hoping that Wally Lamb's recent book "I know this much is true" is just as good. For those of you who didn't enjoy it as much as I did, READ IT AGAIN!
Rating: Summary: she's overdone Review: All in all, I'm glad I read this book as a study in popular fiction. Would I recommend this title to another reader looking for modern fiction? NO. So many people have been raving about the fact that a man can write a book about a woman and make it seem so real. Well, it hasn't happened yet. I found it difficult to make it through this sucking swamp of a book. The title character did not ever truly improve, she just changed the circumstances of her life every so often. As for the author being able to write as a woman, not true. I found Dolores to be shallow, and many of her actions to be little more than what can be found in a typical male's perception of how a female should act in certain situations. It is a depressing morass of every bad thing that can happen to a soul.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not Great Review: She's Come Undone is by all means an entertaining book. However, Lamb fails in some crucial points, and at crucial moments. Dolores is often an unbelievable character, and just when she seems to be making important changes in her life, he sums it all up in two or three words, often ending sentences with unnecessary exclamation marks. The hype about She's Come Undone being written by a man is often unjustified. Yes, a writer should have an imagination, and so to write a character of the opposite sex is justifiable; however, Lamb often portrayed Dolores based on stereotypes of women, making the fact that the book was indeed written by a man glaringly obvious. I'd recommend this book for a bus ride or to take to the beach, but nothing more.
Rating: Summary: She's Come Undone -- Literally, that is until the End Review: Well, I opened this book, hopeful. I thought, "OK" its an Oprah Book Club selection, surely it should be good. Well, the book was slow, depressing and hard to keep reading, but just as I felt as though I was about to come UNDONE, I got to one of the best chapters of the book...when she met Dante...it was truly uplifting the way Wally Lamb brought you into this woman's life and watched her grow from a selfish brat into a self less, independent woman. It was truly a book worth reading.
Rating: Summary: by a man? Review: How on earth a man could have come so close to the indepth feelings of a woman baffles me. While reading this book I continually had to look at the back and remind myself that a guy actually wrote this amazing piece of liturature. I would recomend this book to any woman with a beating heart and to any man who has ever been curios about a womans feelings.
Rating: Summary: It got two stars because I could finish it Review: Almost unreadable, but I managed to finish it. I hated the title character. Guess what? I too weigh 250 pounds, am happily married, hold down a great job, can fit into a VW bug, get into a car without it sagging to the ground and my arms look nothing like ham hocks. The author obviously hates overweight people (maybe I should write something about dumbo ears, since he sure has a set).
Rating: Summary: She's Come Undone Review: A very enjoyable book. It is a easy read. The content has alot of bite to it so be prepared to be shocked.
Rating: Summary: Perverted but Interensting Review: This book is very graphic in detail. The main character, which is a young woman named Dolores, is put through a major ordeal. She has very bad childhood experiances, being raped which was more traumatizing to her than any other, and getting overweight. I highly recommend this book. I also advice you to get some sleep the night before you start reading it because you won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Trashy Book, Impossible Story, Written by a Man Review: It was a fast read. And it's a good thing, because otherwise I would not have given it the time of day. I picked it up expecting a good story and good literature because so many people rave about how great they think this book is, but I was very dissapointed. First of all, it is written in a way that can potentially convince you it's a possible story. It is diary-style and mentions T.V shows and other books, just like a real diary would. But the story and characters are just too impossible. Yes, life can be tough, but an unrellenting assault of bad fortune, as happens to Dolores just doesn't happen in real life. And, I know people that have lived through being raped and dealing with parents deaths without all the emotional damage that afflicts Dolores. The symbolism in this novel was also a joke. Every time a whale was mentioned I actually laughed out loud, could you get any more cliche?
Rating: Summary: any woman can relate to some part if not all of this book Review: I was referred to this book, by a friend who loves Wally Lamb. I do not usually read such books, but I figured what the hey! Well, I am so glad that I did. I love this book and have passed it on to my sister, who as a general rule hates to read, and she feels the same way. It's one of those books that you just want to sit back in an overstuffed chair and read, alone. Because you will get so into it, your going to cry and laugh all in perhaps the same chapter. Buy it and enjoy it. It is definetly one you will want to display on your book shelves.
