Summary: Excellent Book
Review: This was one of the best books I have ever read. It was well written and extremely funny. Yes, it was depressing, but that doesn't make it a bad book. It was very touching. I can't wait to read "I Know This Much Is True."

Summary: A HIT! WONDERFUL!
Review: As a 14 year old, I loved this book, I was able to realte to the situations, after just a few pages ,aI was able to know the main character Dolores, as almost a friend. Its a great book, I came away from it wanting to read more. I came away with a new look on life, a refreshing sense everyone would appreciate. Loved the book, Peace

Summary: Brilliant and emotional!
Review: This book has completely affected the way I think. Wally Lamb is an absolutely brilliant writer, and I cannot say how much I admire and appreciate his existence. Being a 14-year-old female and just barely discovering what life really is about, I felt this book helped heal my own scars from tragedies of the past (and believe me, I haven't had the usual life of a 14 year old). This story of a woman traveling through every possible terror in life I'm sure will help others deal with their own difficulties and become a bit more spur-of-the-moment, taking advantage of life and loving loved-ones. It seems as though the author was attempting to gather every life into one story, advising the many women grouped into Dolores (the main character) to get back into life. Such adventurous content kept me constantly reading. I was so affected by the book that when Dolores Price was excited I was excited, reading or not, and when she had lost it I almost felt as though I had been through what she had, having to remind myself that it was a fictitious novel so I couldn't be angry at any of the characters. I recommend this to anyone, except that the content is rather risque so the younger audience might want to wait a few years (not that I am not young myself). Altogether, this was an INCREDIBLE book.

Summary: Enjoyable read...depressing at times...wild at others...
Review: I read this book like a house on fire! It grabbed me from the start and I absorbed the characters and the plot. The only down side to this story was the depressing circumstances that her life continued to go through. She was obviously in need of help, medically. But I never did see her becoming "normal"....She had a "crazy" switch that went off too frequently...

Summary: Worst book of all time.
Review: This book has no redeeming value. Just when you think the main character may escape from her abusive environment, she is placed in another one. Although I am extremely sympathetic to the plight of abused women, I see no reason to read a book about the continued abuse of an individual.

This was the book that put me in the "no Oprah book club". I pretty much know if Oprah recommends a book, it will focus on abuse. Although Oprah herself has certainly managed to overcome her abusive background, she does not seem to select books where the characters even have a hope of overcoming their abusive backgrounds. While I do not want to only read books with happy endings, neither do I want to read books that leave me feeling that there is no hope in this world.

Summary: Out Irvings John Irving
Review: I am a devoted reader of John Irving. Lamb has achieved with this work a feminine voice far more real than Irving's recent "A Widow for A Year". I loved both books, but this one really stayed with me. Though his characters are presented with difficult and strange circumstances they win out and emerge with a human touch not seen in most popular fiction.

Summary: She came overdone
Review: America is one of the fattest countries in the world and the one most obsessed with weight. This novel takes us into the hearts and minds of those people who are obese. Wally Lamb expresses the harshness and brutality of society to "fatties". It explores not only the physical discomfort but the psychological implications of being viewed as the 'outsider' because one is obese. He details the kinds of torture such people are prepared to sustain and cautiously reminds the world of their predjudices - those inwardly harbored or those expressed. She's Come Undone is Triumphant and encourages both men and women to become sensitive to issues that they believe don't concern them. The novel is expertly written and emotive but at times I felt that Lamb was being redundant. It is worth the read eventhough several parts are reptitious.

Summary: I've come unglued
Review: Okay, okay, so a man wrote this story. So what? Instead of focusing on this stale fact, one should concentrate on the true meaning and purpose of this book (if there ever was one, that is). My impression of this book was overall a fair one (ie.I have read far better and far worse novels). This would have been a far more realistic read had the character not gone through so many ordeals! I mean really! How much suffering can one person take? Lamb should have perhaps toned his dismal view on life a few notches, and realize that just because one is obese and a little disrupted emotionally, does not make one a pillar of misfortune! This fact made the book reek with injustice making it a very hard read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Undoing Talent... as close as you can get
Review: Not to mention a sharp sense of story telling, it is a facination to experience Lamb's ability to write in a place of the opposite gender. Not even a page of boredom, and the revealing of vivid detials of the heroine of the plot... what more can a reader ask for intriging commitment to a book?
