Summary: I found a new favorite author!
Review: I'm not the most avid reader but these 500 pages went by so quickly. One amazing aspect about the book is that I never would have guessed it was written by a man. Dolores is a character any woman can inevitably relate to, one way or another. Don't be turned off by reviews claiming her story is depressing. No one's life is easy and neither is love. But it is was encouraging to read how people get through life's troubles as I think we are all looking for contentment and happiness.

Summary: A Wave of Insanity
Review: This book was a compelling read. The character developement was exquisite and the reading drew one in. What helped me stay with the book in spite of the bizarre happenings was that in the overall much was gained by the main character through her trip into madness.

Summary: Every Woman can relate
Review: I could NOT put this book down! It sweeps you in, wraps you up and doesn't let you go until long after you finish reading the book. No matter how wonderful you think your life is, this book covers every type of dysfunction there could possibly be...and we all have something! You can relate to Delores' feelings and thoughts so well. You will laugh with her and cry with her. It's deeply touching and a forever favorite!

Summary: Can't put the book down!
Review: I laughed and I cried while reading this book. I couldn't wait to finish the book. It was great! Yes, the main character sometimes seem out of whack (to put it mildly), but the story moves in a fast pace and there is never a DULL moment! Read this book for a great STORY and you won't regret it!

Summary: She's Come Undone....
Review: I thought this was a revelation. I have not been able to put this down once I started. It was an emotional journey through the stages of one Dolores Price. At times I could identify with the protagonist in regards to her sense of false-security, self-deprication and fear of abandonment. I became so emotionally involved in this book that I was almost relieved when I finished so I could "let go" and continue with the journey of my own life. I highly recommend this book. But be prepared to experience an abundance of emotions!

Summary: My favorite book!
Review: I read the entire book in one day -- it is so incredible, and I do not know one person that I have recommended it to who does not agree! If you like this book, read White Oleander by Janet Fitch -- I read that book in one day, too!

Summary: If you value your time, this book may not be for you
Review: I have to say, that I wanted very much to like this book. Even up until the end, I was waiting to be redeemed. Unfortunately, it just didn't happen. After a long, twisted journey full of downs and downs, I never found the up. And don't we all need an occasional "up"?

Overall, this really is a depressing read. Sorry Wally.

Summary: God help poor Dolores!
Review: This is one of the most disturbing books that I have ever read.Is this truly the way that abused people, women in particular, return again and again to the same kind of abuse which was their undoing? Can one's own personality be totally submerged in the kind of "comfort" --stuffing your face with food to the bursting point, baking your brain with hour after hour of t.v.--any tv,and returning to the same kind of sexual dominance, just for the sake of having a man--any man? God help any poor female who lives this kind of life style! At times,I felt the greatest sympathy for Dolores and at others,I would have liked to shake her till her teeth rattled! I also find it difficult to believe that this book was written by a male(without a massive amount of input from women)

Summary: A rather unsentimental book that made me cry anyway
Review: Ah, now maybe for some people Wally Lamb's books don't scream sobfest (okay, maybe 'I Know This Much Is True' got the tear ducts open for some). But me being a young woman, reading about Dolores Price and her rather difficult misadventures was like opening up a new world to me. The book starts when Dolores is the tender age of 13 and she's raped by her grandmother's tenant and her mother has a nervous breakdown. That's a lot of weight on her shoulders already. Then to at least stall the pain, she nurtures herself with food and television, really only hurting herself more. But what really makes this book great is that as we watch this rather depressing (at FIRST!) character, we wonder what we would have done in her situation. And when you read about Dolores and how she pulls herself together, now that's really an uplifter! Best of all, this book isn't preachy, like SOME of the books out today. Personally reading about a young woman with such open wounds and sitting on edge, listening to her heal herself, it just is such an uplifting experience. This book is truly marvelous, and I think everyone should pick it up. I've recommended it to all of my friends. And I highly recommend it to you!

Summary: Dolores is incredible
Review: A friend of mine recommended this book to me before I even knew it was on Oprah's book club list.

Dolores is an absolutely remarkable character. Wally Lamb is a remarkable writer who has an extraordinary gift with character development. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down.

It is interesting to read about a character who becomes enlightened before the reader's eyes. Dolores deals with so many trials and tribulations that it is hard to believe that she survived to be an adult.

For anyone who wants a good book to read, this is the book. Dolores will touch your heart.
