Summary: Not a good book for one with manic-depression like myself...
Review: A friend told me I just had to read this book... all I have to say is that true friends don't let friends read Wally Lamb. I think the main problem with this book is that you have to hate the main character. Everytime anything really bad happens to Dolores (the MC) she just does something completely evil as a reaction to make you despise her. Liiike... she decides to have a gay encounter with some woman (I believe her name was Dottie). And throughout the book all Dottie talks about is how much she looooves her little fish. Anyhow, after Dolores has her *encounter* she gets up and poisons all of Dottie's fish because she's 'depressed'. Yeah, bite me, you're depressed... so go and kill some defenseless animals. Really, don't read this book if you fight depression yourself and don't read it if you actually expect some good material.

Summary: This book plain stinks
Review: I fell into the trap of believing the reviews of this book when I purchased this horrible waste of time, energy, and money. This may possibly be the worst book I've ever read. The writing is adequate at best. The story is ugly, overly drawn out, and an example of a book completely lacking in connection between reader and characters.

Writing about bad things does not make for great writing. Writing about bad things without some kind of significance to the suffering is immoral. Mr. Lamb heaps one catastrophe after another on the main character until the suffering becomes preposterous. I consider myself a very compassionate person. Yet, I felt nothing for the people in this book. Disgust would have been better than nothing.

Lamb's inability to involve the reader in the problems of his characters' lives comes from the probable fact that he was not involved in ther lives either. Why he spent so many pages to say nothing is a mystery.

Final thoughts? Avoid this book at all cost! It STINKS!

Summary: reader from New York
Review: I think this is one of the most moving and compelling books I have ever read. As a person who has expereinced much of the things Dolores does in the book, I totally disagree with other reviews estimation that it is cliche and only interesting to the unknowledgable. I have given it as a gift to several freinds (all of whom have loved it) and read it several times myself. I highly recommend reading this book.

Summary: A True Journey
Review: I think this book was extremely well written and I did value the journey the main character goes through to realize her self-worth but I found it thoroughly depressing at times. Especially when she goes to college. I would have liked her to be validated by those who mistreated her (ie. her roomate). All in all, it was a good book but I can't say I really enjoyed it! I would have given it 3.5 stars rather than 3.

Summary: Are you crazy? This book is great!
Review: I don't know what book most of you read, but Shes Come Undone is one of the best books I've ever read! I'm sorry if you feel its depressing, but hey, life is depressing. How many of us have gone through what Dolores went through-bullying, rape, divorce, obesity, nervous breakdown, infidelity, self-renewal? If you don't like this book, return to your magic land of fairy tales and unicorns.

Summary: A Ripping Yarn
Review: I nearly fell off my chair when Oprah selected this book for her book club. I had read the book several months before and had thought about sending it to her. I loved this book. It has all the elements of a great story, love, betrayal, death, misfortune and finally redemption. It's the story of triumph over adversity with the main character (Delores) dealing with all the curve balls that life throws at us. And not dealing at all well with them. While traveling to the lowest depths of misery she encounters the people that mark and change her life for good and for ill. She may be down but she's not out for the count. Delores emerges from this story a better person for all of her travails. And yes, it is remarkable that this book was written by a man. Wally Lamb lends a voice to Delores that is truly endearing even in her worst moments. The moments we all have when we wouldn't want anyone to see us like that, or to know how bad we've been. This is life warts and all and if you only like nice tidy tales with no icky stuff (i.e fairytales) then this book is probably not for you. If you love good writing style and excellent prose, read this book.

Summary: I did not like it
Review: Everyone that I have talked to about this book says that they loved it. I hated it. I did not like the character I hated how she treated her mother and I hated how she wallowed in self pity. I was told to read this because it was written by a man which was suppose to be a big deal that he "knew how to write like a woman thinks" I guess that everyone agreed with that statement, but I didn't. I don't think that women as a whole think like Dolores.

Summary: This is truly a page turner!
Review: I loved this book, it fully held my attention and I wanted the outcome to be good for the characters. However, I must say that I did think that at some points the characters were more like caricatures. Granted this may be intentional on the part of the author, but I didn't care for that aspect of the book. The heroine, Dolores is not really a standard heroine as at some points you feel that she really is her own worst enemy, but it is because of this that the author successfully conveys her humanity to the reader. She is a poor broken soul looking for a peaceful life, whatever she considers to be enough just to keep her balanced. Finally, all I want to say is, read this book, it is a swift read because you DO want to find out what the eventual outcome will be!!!!

Summary: Waste of time!
Review: I read this book because of its great reviews, however I am greatly disappointed. It only made me dislike the main character and feel depressed. I continued through the entire book waiting for something worthwhile to come out of it but it never did. I feel that when Dolores finally changed for the better, it was like she was a totally different character. My advice to you is, don't waste your time on this one.

Summary: Pretty good first novel
Review: A better, more believable ending than that of his second book. But, otherwise, his second book is better I think.
