Summary: A sweeping novel with an unforgettable heroine...
Review: This book was terrific! She's Come Undone is a powerful epic, an emotional journey in the life of Dolores Price. Wally Lamb's Dolores is a perfectly flawed character and easy to get attached to. Brilliant writing, a fabulous point-of-view of a female told through the hand of a male. How did he do it with such spot-on honesty?

She's Come Undone begins in the year 1956 when Dolores is 4 and her family gets a brand new television. Soon, this seemingly normal life begins to unravel, leaving Dolores the product of a marriage gone wrong. While reading this book, I feel this moment of her parents' divorce became the crucial building block of Dolores's downward spiral. And while I do not want to spoil the plot for you, I will say that Dolores lives through some of the most terrible events, and desperately struggles (though at times seems indifferent) to regain the normalcy she once had.

Vivid and emotional, this wild ride pulls your heartstrings and strikes your nerves, sometimes within the same sentence. Pages full of pain and sadness, but also sprinkled with a snappy attitude that had me laughing in my seat. I felt a certain kinship, an almost sisterly devotion toward Dolores, and I praise Wally Lamb for creating this wonderfully real and troubled character.

Summary: A Moving Book
Review: She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb, basically unravel's the life of Dolores Price from start to finish. We meet Dolores when she is at the awkward age of 12. We are watching in when her father leaves for another woman. We are with her when she is 14 and is raped by her neighbor. We continue to watch her through her teen years as she gains weight and becomes 257lb. She suffers with depression especially when her mom dies. She eventually goes to college and her life is made much harder by her perfect room mate. We see her go through her own rehab and meet the man of her dreams. We watch her life and learn so many things. This is a great book, one that I will continue to reread. I recommend it for all mature readers.

Summary: 2 Thumbs Up!
Review: Powerfully moving. Lamb has a deep and profound understanding of the female mind, I am astounded at his talent. This is a book everyone can relate to. I have to admit, I was reluctant. A friend handed me the book and said "Here, you have to read this." She wouldn't take no for an answer. I now have my own copy, and I will read it again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Summary: She's Not "Undone"
Review: She's come into her own. It takes the whole book to get there, but Dolores makes it in her own sweet time.

Mr. Lamb has an amazing way of knowing what's in a young girl's head. He touches on a woman's feelings like he has inside information, my hat is off to him in that regard.

Dolores has a smart mouth and tends to blame others for her shortcomings. Her mother sticks by her anyway and does come through the story as a loving, though struggling parent. Both Dolores' Mom and Grandmother are strong women who only want the best for Dolores, no matter how she treats them or more importantly, herself.

This is a true "coming of age" story about a woman who not only "comes undone", but also pulls herself together to become a good person who cares not only about herself, but also her family and friends.

Summary: A wonderful debut novel
Review: She's Come Undone, the debut novel by Wally Lamb, is a coming-of-age story of Dolores Price. As a young adolescent, Dolores is raped by the upstairs tenant, with whom she has been infatuated with. After the miscarriage of the tenant's child, Dolores places the guilt on herself. The rest of Dolores' high-school life is spent in the constant comfort of cigarettes, soaps, and junk food. Despite her absence at school, Dolores graduates and decides to attend college, because of the wishes of her late mother, who died in a car accident. When Dolores goes to college, the only person to befriend her is the janitor, Dottie, who, like Dolores, is overweight. After a lesbian encounter with Dottie, Dolores escapes to Cape Cod, and is put into a private mental hospital by her mother's best friend. There Dolores goes through the process of rebirth and loses weight, until, after seven years at the hospital; Dolores goes back on her own, towards Dante, the ex-boyfriend of her former roommate. Dante, who thinks their meeting is coincidence, starts a new life with Dolores. The two live together and Dolores endures an abortion before they decide to get married. However, after Dolores finds Dante with a former student, she moves into the house of her late grandmother and takes in her former friend, Roberta, a tattoo artist with Parkinson's. In her college classes, balanced with her jobs, Dolores meets Thayer, whom she tries to have a child with, and eventually marry.
She's Come Undone is told through the protagonist Dolores' eyes. Lamb's character of Dolores is plausible and round, with many traits, good and bad. Though intelligent, she makes poor decisions, though caring, she acts uncaring and selfish, though beautiful, inside and out, she allows herself to become obese and sullen. She has an attitude, addictions, a foul mouth, she lies, and she is selfish; however, Dolores is also confident, compassionate, and independent. Despite the many flaws, Wally Lamb draws the reader towards Dolores with her wise-cracking antics, no matter how grave the circumstances. One idea Lamb intertwines throughout the novel is idea of perseverance in the face of difficulty. Throughout the novel, Dolores faces many hardships. At times, she crawls into hiding; however, each time she pulls herself back into reality to face the situations, and she grows stronger and continues her life. No matter what she confronts, Dolores eventually succeeds. She's Come Undone is beautifully written, and it captivates the reader with its mix of harsh realities and humorous takes on life.

Summary: She's Come Undone
Review: The only thing funny about this book is the description on the cover that says it is hilarious. It was tragic and I never laughed once. The story should have ended half way through when it was believable. I felt like more stories and drama were added just to add more pages to the book. They could have been stories on their own. The symbolism of the whale and freedom and fatness is not orginal. I do however, take my hat off to the fact that a man could write this. He did see a woman's pt of view.

Summary: A Delicious Read!!!
Review: I really loved She's come Undone!! I admired Mr. Lamb for being able to portray a woman's thoughts & feelings so closely. It was neat how he told of Dolores' life from 4-40.I am really glad I found this book & that it was so recognized. It was a very charming novel that is worth reading more than once. It showed what real life was like--not always easy. Lamb really described the characters & the events in the story were alluring. It was a novel I hated to put down or see end. I would recommend this book & I've bought it as gifts & if you're looking at it then you should buy it. It's a delightful & enjoyable book that has become one of my favorites.

Summary: Challenging and Inspiring book
Review: "She's Come Undone" was a hard book for me to read. It dealt with emotions so raw and real, so a part of the human condition, that it was a painful experience sometimes opening up the book. It was, however, more painful if I didn't open up the book, and I had a compulsion to read on, even when I was uncomfortable and out of my 'safe-zone' because of the content of the book. The main character Dolores is as flawed and wonderful as anyone of us; she just has a hard life with many personal tragedies, which makes her perspective on life a little different to most people. "She's Come Undone" is a book about many things; about the power of family, about the strength of will people possess, about the underlying hope in every situation, about desperation and anxiety. Every woman should read this book, every man should read this book, and every teenager should read it too. The plot is excellent, and despite a few awkward moments in the text, the end result is memorable. Read this book if you like real, emotional literature.

Summary: Great Story!
Review: When I finish a book in a week than you know it's great! I couldn't put this down for a minute (except when I had to work). The story Lamb tells is outstanding and he's a man. The story of Dolores is funny and heartbreaking all at once. I actually found myself giggling out loud at some of the things Dolores would say. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Redone
Review: People didn't like Dolores Price? Wow! That's surprising. IMHO, you'll look far and wide to find a heroine as endearing as the wise-cracking Dolores. Obviously she does some things that are hurtful to others (for example, the fish incident). But isn't that all part of what makes her story so moving, that in spite of everything, she proves in the end to have the inner strength to overcome her "undoneness"? This is not a Cinderella story by any means, and Dolores doesn't get the perfect ending, but the ending is realistic and satisfying as she does find her whale.
