Rating: Summary: Best book i have ever read Review: This book was truly inspirational. When I put this book down i was a totally different person then when i picked it up! The hardships that Delource(the main character)went through gave me the inspiration to tackle my OWN hardships and in the end i overcame them just like her. Wally Lamb stepped inside an aging women's mind and understood what a young women thinks! I think that everyone has a Delourice in them and that is what touches and changes people's lives forever! i know that it has changes mine! thank you Wally Lamb for writting this book!
Rating: Summary: Awesome! A must read! Review: An exceptional book written by a man from a woman's point of view. Wally Lamb achieves this task brilliantly. Not a book that will appeal to the masses but something that made me identify with certain parts of me that I hadn't come to terms with yet. One of the best books, ever!
Rating: Summary: an excellent novel Review: She's come undone is the story of Dolores Price, a girl on the verge of her teenage years. Her life is relatively normal, until one day her parents announce their divorce. Living with her mother during her nervious breakdown is especially hard on her. All of the guilt her mother felt is fed to her on a platter in the form of potato chips, mugs filled with Pepsi, and mallowmars. She bitterly drifts through her high school years wise-mouthed and ignored, only finding a friend in her guidance counselor, Mr.Pucci, a rumored homosexual. As Dolores begins to blossom into young womanhood she weighs an astonishing 257 pounds. In order for Dolores to get her life back on track, she must learn to love herself, as well as those who care about her. This novel is appealing to any female from the ages of thirteen and up. Although written by a man, this novel captures the struggles and insecurities of a woman perfectly and beautifully. This book rates high on my list, near Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood.
Rating: Summary: Seriously Unforgettable.... Review: This book is exactly as my title says....unforgettable. Once you start this book you will probably not put it down much until you are finished. The story moves well, with many strange twists and turns that you will not have predicted. Wally Lamb is not bad as he writes the tale from a woman's point of view (however we meet her her in her troubled youth and go from there)and goes through life trying to find herself. I sort of wondered as I read it if Oprah picked it for the major weight issues and abusive remnants of this girl's life. Oprah tends to go for that, and this is no exception. You will read along through rape, masturbation, mean roomates, strange men and old ladies, even (for me the most distutbing) a lesbian scene depicted with an overweight dominating dorm keeper. That said you are prepared with what thte book has to offer as it leads you to your somewhat triumphiant, in it's own way, ending. I simply can not find the ability to give it a higher rating because the whole time I read it I felt dirty. I have had a hard time recommeniding it to others, but then again I read a very different variety of books then my friends around. I also was not exactly stupified by the writing. It was not bad by any means, but I just don't remember reading any of those 'grab you' phrases or sentences that seem to win me over to a book even if I don't like the story line. If you want to be sucked in to an amazing, although depressing, story at times, then this will not dissappoint you. I also believe better informed is better prepared, and personally I wish I had been just a bit more informed of the subject matter within. But if you do choose to crack the pages of this book, especially if you are a Wally Lamb fan, be preapared to remember it for a while.
Rating: Summary: A Compelling Page Turner! Review: I have never read a character like Dolores Price. She does the most horrible things, yet you can't abandon her. I found myself cringing at her behavior and thinking, "Oh no, Dolores... Don't do that!" And of course she would do it anyway but you can't dislike her. You understand why she is the way she is and you want her to succeed. This book is a very clever effort on Mr. Lamb's part and I hope he has a 3rd book by the time I finish the 2nd one.
Rating: Summary: Won't let you down. Review: Grasps your interest from start to finish. A must read.
Rating: Summary: Moving Review: I re-read this book every chance that I get. It spoke to me in ways that I am absolutely at a loss to articulate. This should be required reading for every woman...it's an amazing piece of work.
Rating: Summary: A "can't put down" book.... Review: I totally enjoyed this book. In this story, you can witness the sadness of a girl named Delores watching her mother's desent into mental illness and the loss of Delores' father through divorce. Here's a story that will show the effect that rape by a family friend can have on an individual. Delores is unpopular person and turns to junk food and gains weight. This story will show the reader the unkind reactions of peers just because of Delores' obesity. Delores can be destructive and mean to be able to hide her true self. You can't help but cheer her on and be happy when things go good for her. Here's another great Oprah choice that is worth more than a 5 star rating. A lot of truth in this book. A lot to think about and make the reader realize the power that we all have inside of us. I can't recommend this book enough. It's a wonderful story and one that needs to be read.
Rating: Summary: This is what they mean by Modern Literature Review: This book is not just a novel, it's a work of literature. The story follows a young woman from early adolescence through divorce, rape, death, obesity, rejection, and ultimate rebirth. Please, don't let me scare you off with all the horrible happenings that this book exposes, it's really quite uplifting. The character's search for acceptance, for self-awareness, and for love is so amazing that I garuntee that those who give it a chance will walk away from it refreshed and hopeful.
Rating: Summary: A moving tale, told by a master Review: Wally Lamb displays a stunning amount of skill in telling the life of a very disturbed young girl through her life. This book, though not suited for all ages, should be enjoyed by all at some point in life. I can't even say how much I enjoyed this book, its indescribable, only one who's read this book can relate to the feeling. Therefore I urge you to read this master piece, only then can you trully understand and be enlightened about the horrible and trying lives some in this life have to live. I was moved by the pitiful state of the character, and awed by her sense of self conciousness. Her life story is staining, and absolutley fascinating!
