Summary: Emotionally moving, fabulous real-life connection.
Review: Wally Lamb's portrayal of a fat girl and the misery she suffered hit so close to home. his writing was flowing and interesting. often funny. my heart ached for her; made me want to just give her a hug

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Hang on for the ending.
Review: BEWARE before starting this book!. I found the entire thing rather depressing. It is weird to be so drawn in to someone else's misery, but that is precisely what happens. I am amazed that I made it through, but something kept me hoping that, eventually, Delores' life would improve. The strangest thing is that the end of the book seemed to make it all worthwhile. This is definitely NOT for people who cannot abide graphic details, as they are disturbingly portrayed. I don't think the author being male should be an issue, since he glossed over things that any female would know were crucial in life (like the abortion). Overall, though, it was a good read, if only to realize that something good will happen if you just wait the misery out

Summary: A huge disappointment.
Review: On the cover, the NY Times says this book is hilarious. It's about as hilarious as a trauma center. I was happy when Part I ended because I thought "Now, it will get better". Felt the same way at the end of Part II. It was sad and depressing from beginning to end. Yes, the author writes like a woman, but that's a pretty weak way to market a book. If it had been written by a woman, I doubt that this book would have received much acclaim. I was thoroughly disappointed

Summary: Enlightening and entertaining; interesting plot twists
Review: The true value of this novel is not in Lamb's outstanding writing, but rather the fantastic plot and quirky characters.

As a 16 year-old able to identify with many of Delores' sorrows (intentional play on words?), I couldn't help but feel pity - and frustration - with her character. What I liked was her sarcastic sense of humor and bitter take on reality. Delores is not a heroine, an archetype, or guru; she is an eager storyteller who can't help but interject her opinion at every possible chance.

This book will never be a classic, but is definitely worth reading, if only for the cool cover art.

Summary: Read avidly by a non-reader.
Review: My girlfriend isn't much of a reader, which does create tension at times in our house, for I read avidly and have many books in my possession. She has tried reading Marge Piercy, Robbie Clipper Sethi, Nick Bantock, among others, all without much success. What drove her to pick up She's Come Undone I'll never know, but it was such a joy to watch her go over every page, turn backwards, laugh out loud, read me passages, but mostly read with her mouth open in amazement. Wally Lamb seems to have really captured something authentic and real and entertaining. High marks

Summary: A Must-Read, Can't-Put-Down Book!
Review: I repeatedly found myself glancing at the cover of this book as a reminder that a man wrote this book! Such wonderful insight into the female psyche. Dolores is such a complex character. I found the character development wonderful, and her metamorphasis a multifaceted journey -- joyous, frustrating, sad, peaceful, funny. You couldn't help but be drawn into her world, hoping that she would finally find satisfaction with herself and her life and appreciate those close to her. A must-read. I devoured this book in one day

Summary: A man's perspective through womens eyes!!!!!
Review: I believe that the story was very worth reading. The plot was well thought out, but the language was not appreciated. I am a young adult female from a Christian background. I didn't think that the language or that some of the scenes were appropriate. I do however agree that the story needed to be told. I found it heartwarming and something after my own heart

Summary: A complete waste of my time!
Review: I read this book when it was first published several years ago. I was intrigued by the cover art and the title in addition to the plotline. Thank god I didn't waste my money on a hard cover version as so many of you have. I thought this story to be one of the dumbest books I have ever read

Summary: A Disturbing Chronicle of a Young Woman's Life
Review: I belong to a B&N fictional reading group assigned to read "She's Come Undone" and discuss at next month's meeting. I found it fascinating reading some of the other reviews of this book with ratings ranging from 2 to 10. The protagonist, Delores, is not unlike many of us suffering from low self esteem, the feeling of abandonment by a loved one, and/or a violation of our person by someone trusted. Her self loathing manifested itself in her overeating and, consequently, obesity. Fortunately, with therapy, she overcome her self destructive behavior and went on with her life. But enough about the book. I could go on and on about the author, Wally Lamb, who, surprisingly, astounded most of us with his insight into a troubled young woman's life and the many problems resulting from her negative experiences. Rather uncommon coming from a male's perspective I'd say. He is to be commended for his insight and sensitivity

Summary: Fantastic writing, absorbing story, great to share with pals
Review: I was immediately hooked by this book. In fact, 2 friends had read it before me and we began talking about Dolores like she lived down the block. I used this book to motivate students in my reporting class at CU-Boulder. The writing is insightful, nicely paced and clever
