Review: This is a great book. Wally Lamb did a great job creating the character, Delores, and taking us through her long dramatic life. He guides us through all the bad times in her life, and all her emotions. Delores learns to understand herself. There are many times in the book when you want to jump in and fight for Delores. Many people in her life look down on her and all you want to do is befriend her. Lamb does a great job of going through Delores' head and showing you what it is like to be someone else. Wally Lamb uses Delores' eating habits to mirror her emotional state. When she startes coming unhinged, like when she is in college, she eats all the time. She weighs about 250 pounds. When she is finally happily married then her weight is down 75 pounds. This book is about self-examination. Delores has to learn to love herself before she can love anyone else. This book is very great and is highly recommended.

Review: This book was amazing and heart-wrenching. You really felt for Dolores but at the same time, wanted to be like her in some ways. At times I wish I could have a mouth like hers to defend myself. The author is terrific and I can't wait to read his next book. Hats Off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: This book is one of the best I have read in a long time. Being a very picky reader (if the book doesn't grab me within the first couple of pages, I don't want to read it) I enjoyed this book so much. Throughout the whole book, I never once did I think of the author as being a male. Wally Lamb did a wonderful job writing in a female's voice. I give it a 10++++. I read it in four days. It was like watching a movies, everytime I put it down I felt as though I was putting to movie on pause.

Review: This is, without a doubt, one of the best books that I have ever read. Lamb's style of writing is unique, and it paints a realistic portrait of each of the characters present in this novel. There was never a dull moment throughout Lamb's narration of Dolores' life, and what is even more stunning is that he is able to depict this main characters' feeling with such vividness and accuracy, despite the fact that he is a male. I literally could not put this book down - I found myself reading it at every spare moment. It is truly an unforgettable story, which has enriched my life.

I gave it to my sister to read after I did and she felt the same way I did. You can hardly stand to put it down It's defintley the type of book you can read in one day!!! Review: This book was marvelous, funny ,poignant, absorbing, real and hopeful. I stayed up all night reading the last 150 pages - it's that good. It was hard for me not to believe that Doris was a real person.

Review: Dolres is heart breaking and infurating, often at the same time. The self-loathing of obesity, one that most of us can not imagine, is captured with empathy and compassion. Everyone Ive loaned this book to has neglected everything else in their lives to finish it. An amazing novel.

Review: I've read several of the reviews already posted. They seem to range from those who see the book as "mini series" simplicity to those who saw it as life and soul enhancing. I personally agree with the latter. This was a book that I slowed down reading just so I could savor it a little longer. The depth of character development displayed in the book is beyond compare-we not only feel for her but we also feel like Dolores. In varying degrees we all have the capacity to be Dolores whether our fears manifest themselves to the same extent or not . I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next novel by Lamb.

Review: I started this book on a Monday afternoon and was finished two days later. I could not pull myself away from it! Delores was a character I could relate to and I was really impressed with Mr. Lamb's writing style. It was amazing that he could convey Delores' feelings in such a way that you had to keep checking the name on the cover of the book to make sure it was a man's name on it! Read this book-you will not be disappointed.
