Rating: Summary: One of the worse books I have read!!! Review: This book started off fairly well, but alas it very quickly lapses into a journey of tedium. I can't remember when last I was so irritated by a main character and it was only sheer willpower that got me through to the last boring page. Having read some of the reviews of this book I was unaware that it was a talk-show host's recommended read. I really don't understand why every second person in America rushes out to buy such a book on someone's recommendation. As one reviewer so aptly puts it - WAKE UP AMERICA!! I sometimes wonder why an author takes the time out to write such a load of rubbish.
Rating: Summary: Protagonist is human, loveable, and victorious Review: Wally Lamb is a genius. Just for him to be able to create and write in the voice of the protagonist, is a feat (and treat). I, for one, understand Dolores' journey through utter depression and insecurity. For someone whose life has been a series of unfortunate events, Dolores manages to make us laugh and smile, and sometimes you can't help but to cheer her on. I've read the book 3 times and I have recommended it to everyone. It's the perfect remedy for when you're feeling depressed....Dolores just takes you away.
Rating: Summary: the 'happy ending' phrase never meant this much before Review: a totally awesome book. the way i see it everyone has minor to major glitches in life. sometimes even worse than what dolores price had come across Though i had much better luck so far, never in my life time till now, i can relate to such character in a book. and you need to not to have been raped, 257 pounds and had bad childhood for that. dolores may not be someone significantly important nor extrodinarily different, but thats what counts. we all go through the same mess at one point. cheers to wally lamb for pointing that out.
Rating: Summary: "It was the best book I have ever read." Review: This was a wonderfully crafted novel. It takes you in to the life of Dolores Price, I felt like I personally knew her. I had to kept looking at the cover to see if it really was a male writing this wonderful novel. I told everyone to read it after i had finished. You can learn so many important things through her many trials and tribulations. She was a lady that overcame many obstacles and I admire Dolores for it. I have overcome Anorexia and many other factors of my life, so I related very closely to Delores. I felt her pain and sadness throughout the novel. I wanted to just put my arms around her and tell her it would be okay. Hugs are such an important part of maturatity. Delores seemed like she had a lot of emptyness in her life...i know ther are plenty of Delores' out there. We as a society need to work on setting our childeren free with love. I hope that everyone gets a chance to write this wonderful book and Wally Lamb continues to write.
Rating: Summary: Worth your time-- Review: This is probably not the best book you'll ever read--Wally Lamb is not John Steinbeck or William Shakespeare. That's not the point--at least it shouldn't be the point. SHE'S COME UNDONE is still worth reading. Delores is messed up and her life isn't that great. The love in her life doesn't fit into neat little categories but she really wants it to--and she keeps waiting for love to appear in the form she always imagined it would. What an incredible waste of life to just wait for things to be the way you want them to be! Personally, I was incredibly moved by Lamb's message spoken through Delores' counselor/friend: "Accept what people offer you. Drink their milkshakes. Take their love."
Rating: Summary: Really good book Review: My friend recommended this book about a year ago, when we were both 13 years old. I bought the book, and finished it in one night, starting at ten that night and going to sleep at almost five in the morning. I wasn't able to put it down. I thought that it was an incredibly good portrayal of all aspects of human emotions. Later, my other friend read it, and we all wrote a book report on it at school (not together.) Our teacher was impressed that we had read it, for he had also read it and enjoyed it. Now, it seems like all the girls in our grade our reading it, including some of the teachers. They all love it. I personally think it's the best coming of age novel ever. The author taps into so many emotions that are a part of life and many that I can relate to as a teenager myself. Overall, it's up there on my top ten list, coming closely behind Pat Conroy and Toni Morrison's Song Of Solomon.
Rating: Summary: An absolutetly brilliant debut novel Review: She's Come Undone is an absolutely brilliant debut novel with a very 'real' character battling a very 'real' life. This book is so good that I read it straight through, hugely resenting my 'real' life intruding. This is a book you can go back to again & again !
Rating: Summary: recommended for thoughtful readers Review: Lamb's book reminded me of the line from the Langston Hughes poem, "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." Those who can relate to this metaphor in their own lives will be able to relate to Dolores and the trials she endures. But if you can't tolerate weakness, despair, and the sadder side of life, then this book is not for you. As a work of popular fiction, it is very good. Lamb creates a flow with his writing that doesn't let up.
Rating: Summary: A wonderfully written book that *anyone* can relate to. Review: This is definitely the BEST book I have ever read. It's so touching, so emotional, so raw. It's a book that leaves you breathless in the end. Lamb's development of Delores is phenomenal. The emotional bond he creates between her and the reader is not one I've ever had when reading a book before. And it is not such an emotional book that it drains you, but rather lifts you up.
Rating: Summary: A LIFE FULL OF EMOTION Review: This is an awesome book. Wally Lamb introduces us to the main character, Delores, and takes us through her dramatic life. Every emotion known to human kind is experienced within this book. Delores goes through many sorrowful times in her life, which makes one just want to stand up and yell defending her. Although this book is slightly depressing, it is one of the best books I have ever read.
