Summary: The best book I've ever read cause it hit so close to home!
Review: I'd recommend this book to everyone but especially those of us who have struggled with an eating disorder as a result of traumatic childhood events like Dolores. I was blown away by the author's insight into the depression that results from not feeling loved at home, accepted at school and to top it all off --rejected in general. It was also a reminder to me that there is still hope but you've got to make it happen for yourself! I didn't want to read anything for a while after reading this and even after I did, I still can't get it out of my head. I think I'll give it a 2nd read, only slower this time.

Summary: Astonishing...captures the tenacity of the human spirit...
Review: I read this book when it first came out in the early '90s, and have read it twice more since then. Delores is the embodiment of the human spirit, a beautiful example of the force and power we all possess. A powerful woman who not only survives, but thrives against all odds. This is a book to lose yourself in...I felt as if I was travelling alongside Delores throughout her journey. Wally Lamb's ability to speak the female voice is truly amazing. I can't wait to read his newest novel, for I know that it will get under my skin and become a part of me...just like this one!

Summary: The best book I've read in a long time!
Review: Wally Lamb did a fantastic job depicting the life of an adolescent girl through womenhood. Life is all about the choices we make, and poor Delores had her share! It was hard to put this book down. Definitely, a must read.

Summary: I Loved this book!

Summary: This is the Book to read!
Review: I picked up this book before knowing it was one of Oprah's book of the month books. The cover alone draws you in...but don't judge a book by it's cover. From the start I became enthralled with the characters. Each character is profoundly real from the main character to the family and neighbors. How anyone can read this book without developing a new compasion for those around us, I don't know. This is the book you will recommend to your friends, the book that you will never forget.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I finished this book in one day. It was terrific! I was very impressed with Mr. Lamb's realistic story of Delores and her life's trials and tribulations. I agree with another reader who commented that this is a book that makes you think after you've put it down. I felt pride, anger, hate, warmth, and many other emotions while I was reading it, and I was able to actually picture in my mind the scenes. That's how I know a book is really good, and this one did it. Five stars, definitely.

Summary: A heart wrenching book !
Review: Wally Lamb is superb! This is a heart wrenching book that leads you down a long road of pain, sorrow and suffering. Dolores is a young girl with all the problems of a child believing it to be the end of the world, food is her way of escaping her fears and the answers to all of her questions. There is never a dull moment throughout the entire book from sex, lesbianism, relationships to marriage, divorce and death. I really enjoyed reading this book and finished it in 3 days! It is a BIG MUST READ!

Summary: Outstanding. Surprising ending.
Review: An exceptional book. I never once left her side. I understood her wrath, guilt and very short happiness. It is my opinion that any person reading this book will, in some way, associate with Dolores. It's a fabulous non-fiction, however, it could be true to someone on this planet.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Interesting, depressing and annoying all at once
Review: The reviews on the back of the book call it "hilarious" but I dunno where that came from considering the depressing tone of the book. Sure, there is some clever dialogue near the end of the book, but hardly hilarious. The only thing I found funny was the other review that compares it to "The World According to Garp." Hardly! I was impressed with the characterization of Dolores through her different stages of life though. It was very subtle and well done.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Lacks Originality
Review: I think I've figured out the formula for a best-seller that people can "really relate" to. 1. The main character must be overweight and angst-ridden. 2. A disfunctional family. The more problems, the better. 3. Rape or some sort of sexual abuse, preferably when the main character is still young. 4.Toss in a trip to a psychiatric institution. Voila-there you have it. If you haven't read any books of this sort before, try it. If you have read others like it, don't bother with this one.
