Rating: Summary: Wonderful book. Very realistic, too. Review: I really enjoyed reading this book, an' it brought on quite a few of different emotionz. At timez it waz funny an' light hearted, while at otherz, it waz depressing an' deep. The author wrote this book very well, an' you couldn't even tell it waz written by the opposite sex. You could picture almost every scene in your head, cuz the wording waz so descriptive. It'z the kind of book you can get right into, an' it iz hard to put down. My friend let me borrow the book at school, an' I gave it back the next day. I read it almost straight thru. It waz that good. There really are people in the world like Doloris, an' the book seemz to give us the courage to keep going no matter how bad thingz get. So don't give up an' keep on trying.
Rating: Summary: Great technical writing, horribly depressing story Review: I dove into She's Come Undone with great expectations of a triumphant feminion hero conquering her world. What I found was nothing like her. The plot is simple. One girl is sucked in by today's society and loses. She is not beaten, she simply gives in, and loses. The author did revive my hopes of her rise to fulfillment continuously, only to let me back down with another lost opportunity. If you are not tremendously emotionaly stable, this one could bother you.
Rating: Summary: I want a sequel! Review: I just loved this book. The day after I finished the book, I actually missed Dolores. I wondered what she was up to and how she was doing. I found it more triumphant than depressing.
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLE BOOK Review: This book was incredible. The characters were som completely real. And it was amazing how the male author was able to capture such a female persona. Delores wasn't a character you could hate or adore. She was disgusting and beautiful and that made her all the more wonderful
Rating: Summary: She's Come Undone is not worth the read. Review: I firsted noticed She's Come Undone listed in the Quality Paperback Book Club. It was recommended as a great book demonstrating a woman's strength to overcome adversity. Now I see it is listed as an Oprah recommendation -- too bad. I found the book tiring and depressing. The heroine, Dolores, is self-involved and her life spirals down into mental illness. While some may enjoy the book's quirky style, I was too disturbed by the book's content and negativity to enjoy the read.
Rating: Summary: Depressing yet captivating Review: With every turn of the page I waited for the next catastophe to strike poor Dolores. Her father's abandonment and mother's emotional illness lay the foundation of instability that cannot handle the trauma of rape. Repression, obesity and mental collapse follow. Every time Dolores seems on the verge of finally pulling herself up, she is beaten down again either by circumstance or by her own rage. She squanders opportunities and makes poor choices, but this is to be expected from someone with her history. Although her reactions to people and situations are often so frustrating that I was tempted to stop reading, I just had to keep turning the pages to see what was to become of her.
Rating: Summary: I have never hated/ loved a character the way I did Delores Review: I loved this book! Wally Lamb captured the feelings of a woman so well. My friends and I all read this together. We each got something different out of it, but we all loved it.If you have ever been a woman who has a weight problem, even if it's not as extreme as Delores, you will relate to the problems with the kids in school. I loved her, yet at the same time I hated her. I could see myself being like that in to may instances. The problems that she had, from the time she was 12 to adulthood, was sometimes funny, sometimes pitiful. No matter how you are as a person, you will definately feel something about this book.
Rating: Summary: Addicted. Couldn't put it down to eat, sleep--anything!! Review: Wally Lamb actually climbed into the mind of a girl--woman and tells of all the emotions of being female growing up in a very dysfunctional environment. I was taken into another life for the two days it took me to read this book. This is a very different type of literature than I am used to reading. It caught my attention on Oprah, but took me a few months to finally buy it. Worth every penny!
Rating: Summary: A beautiful story of a desperate young adult. Review: The cruelty and the harshness that Delores Price encountered during her most formative years makes the reader want to stand up for her and rescue her. You'll be happy and sad with Delores, and root her on at the end. A fantastic story, written exquisitely and a fast read, I finished in two days!
Rating: Summary: Excellent read Review: Lamb's tale of an obese, abused women is depressing, but grows on you like fur on a chia pet. It is a very realistic tale of grief and self renewal.I couldn't put this book down.
